Ok, finally had time to do some serious updating...

The Tamyia T34 is just about done. I just took some pics and noticed i forgot the clearpart for the headlight...Embarrassed. Easily fixed though.

I chose an early '43 type of tank and also couldnt resist attempting to add the figures. Not my strong point but it makes things look more "lively" and also fills the holes the tank has after leaving it opened up (there is no interior to speak of other than the gun loading assembly).

Yes, it is very rusty and that may not be the taste of some; let alone realistic but i just like the overly weathered look on some tank modelsBig Smile Hope you guys like my work:

Man Kermit you are a building machine ! Hey I love the tank, the figures are the perfect touch IMHO to make the build look so real. I love the way you made the casting marks on the turret stand out and the weld beads on the T-34.  I too like the rusty looks of your builds. Hell I cant see a thing to complain about on this one Richard, other than it is SCREAMING for a base big time.

Man I just gotta find the time for my first tank geeze

Well I wanted to clear up several builds needing completion before I started anything else. So as of New Years Eve 2010 I was able to get several (five to be exact) out of the way. So tonite I finally began work on my 129. After looking at Jester's just completed Hasegawa kit of the same subject I know there is a huge difference between the new kit and this old ESCI/AMT offering. Now we shall see what I can make from this oldie. I got a few quick things knocked out this evening- the cockpit and the wings. A grand total of about 8  or 9 parts...Whistling plus sanding and glueing...

More to follow when worth posting...

kermit - Very nice looking T-34!  Those Tamiya kits build up really nice and you made a winner out of it!!

skaggs - Wow! Another great Tamiya T-34!  Love that winter whitewash and the dio...that flag is oustanding!

castelnuovo - I just went back a page and noticed your completed BT-7!  What a beaut!  I luv the weathering and the broken headlights!!

Great stuff guys!  Sorry I missed out on the first 4 1/2 months!  The last part of 2010 was a beast and January looked to be the same but things have eased up and I think I'll finally be able to put in some serious bench time.  I'm supposed to build a Italeri BT-5, but I need to shake off the cobwebs so I decided to start first on this kit.

Its a 1:35 RPM T-26T "ciagnik artyleryjski" or "artillery tractor".  I want to build something quick and easy, mostly to practice some weathering techniques on Russian green armor.  Its not an expensive kit and will most likely be built OOP, but I feel like practicing first before hitting the BT-5.  Its a little different, I hope you guys don't mind.

kermit - can you please add this little guy to my build list?

That looks like a sick little tank bufflehead. I look forward to seeing it come along.

I started tamiyas hanomag sdkfz 251/1 this past friday and would like to enter it into the gb as a second build if that is possible. Here are some pics of it.

Great looking stuff in this GB so far!  I have much to strive for...

FINALLY have made some progress... between moving house, moving offices, the holidaze and last, but not least, raising toddler twin girls, i managed to get some bench time.  i'm a few sessions away from prime/paint session!  Friuls are all done.  They are worth every penny!

Verrrrry slowly getting this one completed.

Cheers

heres an update on the tamya sdkfz 251. it is complete now though i had to come back to college before my buddy could take pics of it for me. I'll try to find someone here with a good camera to take some of it. theres a couple things I'm not too happy about. I'm dissapointed in my decalling job on it and I tried some new wearing techniques that were new to me, but here it is...

Nice looking work guys!

Hey skaggs, your Hanomag (or should I say Sd.Kfz.251!!) is coming along great!  Nice camo job and the decals came out fine!Yes   There's not much you can do with those old, thick Tamiya decals!Bang Head

ozzman - Sweet little flampanzer!  We don't often see this type of AFV so kudos to you for presenting us with something different!  AND its in panzer grey, one of my favorite colors!!  Big Smile  BTW, which kit is that?

Hey everyone, here's an update on that little T-26T Artillery Tractor!

All the suspension has been assembled but not installed yet. The roadwheels were a bear to clean up - I couldn't hold them because of their size and convex shape. I finally decided to chuck the little guys in my Dremel to sand them down! I also assembled the lower hull.

The two halves of each bogie housing didn't match perfectly so I had to do some sanding and reshaping for a better fit. Then I heavily stippled on some Mr. Surfacer 500 to hide the imperfections and give them a cast texture, followed by some light sanding to smooth out the surface. The photos were taken before the sanding.

After trying to decipher the Polish written instructions I realized that I needed to remove some molded on items on the hull and rear engine panel. In the photo the front glacis and rear engine panel are just dry fitted on.

The instructions show that these will be installed over the removed grills on the engine plate.

Time to bust out the Dremel again! Unfortunately the Dremel can only be used to a certain point after which files, sanding sticks and the trusty X-Acto knife were used to clean up all the areas.

Here are the results. The engine panel is now ready for the new parts. I decided not to completely remove the front grill as the new cover almost entirely masks that area. I accidentally gouged up part of the plate with the Dremel and had to putty it. It pays to be careful and patient with power tools!! I also need to replace a couple of rivets that got taken out in the process!

I detailed the scoop that goes over the rear grill with some photoetched mesh and styrene strip. Looks much better now!

Removing the two plates on the sides of the hull left me with some problems...the two areas are now completely flat and rivets will have to be added. But another problem became evident when I realized that the panel lines above the fenders were RAISED instead of being scribed in and with the removal of the plates the panel lines stops in the middle of the hull side! I decided to fix this by removing all molded on rivets and raised panel lines in the area and rescribed new panel lines.

As for the missing rivets I found some Grandt Line rivets in my aftermarket box that are the perfect size, but I don't have enough. I couldn't find any suppliers for these rivets so I just Googled them and it turns out their shop is only 20 miles from my home in the Bay Area!! Woohoo!! I gave them a call yesterday, ordered a bunch of different size rivets and they'll arrive next week. In the meantime I'll keep plugging away at different sections of the kit.

Hi Everyone,

Could I join this GB with a 1/48 Panther Ausf G please. It's the Tamiya kit, just started a couple of days ago. All I've done is assemble the idler wheels and attach them and the lower front armor plate to th lower hull.

Cheers

Tony

Thanks for the info ozzman!  I built an Alan Pz. II a few years ago, they make decent kits!

Quick update on the T-26T:

As I was doing online research for adding all those rivets I was surprised when I came across several photos of these vehicles towing artillery.  Well, that's what they were designed to do, DUH Bufflhead!!  DunceAnyway it seemed only right to depict this tractor towing something.  I researched Soviet WWII artillery and available kits in 1/35 scale and the only kit that made sense was this:

Its Bronco's recent release of the F22 76.2mm Divisional Field Gun.

The reason I say it makes sense is according to my research, most of the T-26Ts were lost during the last half of 1941.  Only a few survived the first months of Operation Barbarossa.  I want to depict a vehicle during this time frame and most of the available kits are for artillery like the Zis-2 (57mm), Zis-3 (76.2mm) and M-30 (122mm) field guns.  All of these became operational in 1942-1943.  I found a few other kits, but again, most of them depict artillery that became operational after 1941.  Bronco's F22 depicts a gun that was field operational and readily available in 1940-1941.  It also looks like a really nice kit, so I placed an order with LuckyModel this morning and I'll add the gun later on.

Hi Everyone,

Here is the starting point for my 1/48 Panther. At this stage I haven't found any suitable Ostfront markings for it. I'll have to determine whether the units given in the kit markings ever served there whilst they had this marque of Panther,  as a first step.

Cheers

Yay i just got the Legend Productions update set for my T-34/76 i looks cool. Also i got a crew from Tristar.

P.S. does anyone know if T-34/76 had round fuel tanks in 1943 or at any other time?

ozzman, I'm pretty sure the cylindrical fuel tanks on T-34s were first used in 1943. I thought I saw photos of
T-34s at the time of the battle of Kursk and some had the cylindrical tanks. By the end of 43 (if not earlier)  they had become standard.

Well, so much for a quick, easy build!  Sad  I ran into a couple of problems:

1.  As I was installing the rear hull panel I realized that there was no artillery towing attachments provided in the kit!

Kinda dumb if you ask me to have a kit of an "artillery tractor" yet not provide anything to tow artillery!  I'm going to try researching this and see if what I can do to attach that Bronco F22 gun.  If I can't figure it out I may have just bought that Bronco kit for nothing.

Worse.....

2.  The cabin dimensions don't match the hull!!  Censored  As you can see in the photos, from the front to the rear, the cabin is short about 1 mm.  At least the sides match up OK.  I was thinking of just letting it go, but that gap is just too noticeable!   Grrrrrrr.....Super Angry

I contemplated scratchbuilding an entirely new cabin, but instead I figured I'll just cut the cabin in two at the top, insert a 1 mm section of strip styrene, sand smooth and re-rivet.  Not sure what to do with the sides yet.  Either I'll do the same thing or just build entirely from scratch....whichever I deem quicker.

Black Eye   Maybe I should have just built that BT-5................

So, with all the snow out and nothing to do, I started on Zvezda's T-34/76 mod 1943. Construction is going smoothly so far, i got an update set from Legend Productions. sorry there's no pics my camera died. There is a problem though, there is a large gap between the two hull halves in the back where the engine cover is. has anyone else encountered this problem?

I am working on my T-34/76 and to do replicate damage I removed both of the back fenders. Can I still attach the rectangular fuel tanks without them? Also. should I remove the front fenders?

Great work guysYes wer'e getting news reports of the snow storms over here, looks pretty bad..

Richard, So i feel bad for messing up the dates and not finishing the Anti Submarine GB so i figured i'd build this one to make up for it...This is going to be a quick build, it only took a couple of hours to get the office done but things will slow down when i get to the painting stage, i havn't decided what scheme yet but i've narrowed it down to two...

Julez -- those are Hobbycraft's moulds, I'd know them anywhere. They build into a good looking model but they can bite you. Beware of the canopy, If it's the same one as in the S-199 kit, it does not fit the fuselage at all, I had to pose it open to get away with it. If Squadron makes a replacament it might actually fit so you can close it...

Cheers, M/TB379
