Hmmm...
I guess an apology is in order here. Being european, the word "Ostfront" (indeed, the direct translation from german is eastern front) was very obvious tome as a description for the GB..... I will do something about that right away so that we are all clear on at least the subject of the group hahaha.
Terribly sorry boys.
Richard

That's the way I took it. To me, Ostfront is basically like saying "the Pacific"...

The reason I asked about Operation Barbarossa was that I wasn't sure when the term "Ostfront" starting being used by the Germans. More often I read or heard it being used after the failures of Operation Barbarossa, say after 1941, when the invasion turned into a protracted war . Of course, that's just based on what little I know of the titanic battles between Germany and the Soviet Union.
Anyway kermit, please put me down for a 1/35 Italeri BT-5 Soviet light tank. If it doesn't take too long I'll add a 1/35 CMK Pz.35(t) as a 2nd build!

Bufflehead, i have added your build too. Welcome to the group and have fun!
I am really amazed how my GB has had so many participants already. But more is always better
hey all,
Im new to fine scale and new to modelling as well. this is my first GB and im excited to get started on it.
Im going to do the Tamiya t34/76 "chTZ" version, 1943 production.
probably going to buy some photo etched peices to put on it but not sure yet
adam
Welcome aboard, Adam! Looking forward to seeing the tank come to life!
Just curious - what drew you to modelling? I've recently taken it up again after a decade or so away (and fifteen years since I've built regularly). With two young kids in the house, I'm it's the perfect way to decompress at the end of the day. And, unlike other interests I'd love to pursue - writing, mountain biking, restoring cars - it's fairly easy to put down if I have to rush inside to change a diaper/help get a kiddo back to sleep, etc.
Skaggs (Adam),
I am very honored that you chose this group to display your work out of all the other places on FSM and the web in general. Indeed, the hobby is to me very relaxing and almost therapeutic It is very good to know that lately FSM had quite an influx of (re)starters.
Like my girlfriend eloquently puts it: "It's better to have you sniffing paint inhere than have you fooling around outthere". Not that i'm much of a partyhopper type mind you.
Your build is on the list buddy! Have lotsa fun Did the tamiya T34 myself and it is a very good kit imho.

Luckly my kids are grown up and cause i don't build at home, i don't have many distractions. But i never put my modelling down if i can help it.
Welcome Adam. Nothing like jumping in at the deepend. But GB's are a great way to pick up tips and ideas.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Now that i am yacking on here anyways....
Been working on something of a badge. Ofcourse you guys can send in your own designs too if you are able to make them.
How's this? Needs a bit of downsizing...:
LOL! I dream of the day my kids are grown! Our oldest - he's 2 1/2 now - was just starting to get a bit of self-reliance and then we went and had a baby girl at the end of May. She's a sweetheart, but I suck at babies, and it's thrown that small measure of peace out the window.
But modelling sure has been therapeutic. It may keep me up til 1 AM and force me to go on four hours of sleep the next day, but I find I'm far less grumpy on those four hours than I am on the nights I don't model in a bid to grab some extra sleep. Go figure...
I decided to start making models on impulse after I was cleaning out my basement with my mom and found an old Diorama my brother and dad had built a while back. I saw it and said damn I wanna start doing that haha so I went to my LHS the next day and picked up some kits and paint etc. this was at the beggining of the summer and once I started doing it, its been constantly on my mind hah. Unfortunately Im going back for my second year of college in 12 days and Im hoping il be able to do some work on models out ther but ehh we will see what happens.
thankks for the warm welcome guys
I have periods when i can't doing any modelling, usually when i am deployed or at home on leave or weekends. I haven't touched a model now since the end of April. So i always look forward to getting back behind the desk, even if it means i am away from home. I just look forward to the day when i can do both at the same time.
I do like that GB badge kermit. I assume you are going to put 2010 and 11 or you just leaving it at 2010. I been trying to make a badge for my GB useing a very basic photo editor. Took me two days but i got one i like. What do you use to make yours .
Hey Kermit,
Can I join with Tamiya's SdKfz. 222 Leichter Panzerspahwagen in 1/35?
Not sure when will I start with it, bussy with work, baby and other GB...
Cheers...
Bish,
I use Jasc paintshop pro for my more complicated stuff. Made some badges for other groups too with it. Pretty easy once you know how to work with layers and transparency.
Castelnuovo,
I will write you down on the board my friend. Glad to have you
Well, if Kermit is hosting a group build, I just have to join in the fun!
Please put me down for Trumpeter's 1/48 Mig-3. I'm looking forward to this... some great talent in here so far!
Jeremy
The badge you created is far better than I could think of I swear! You have my vote as long as you can make it smaller but at the same time make the year 2010 or 2011 bigger. Its little hard to see... heck I just turned 40 years old and my vision is taking a dive!
Glad you didn't put me down for Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf H yet because I am still undecided... now I am leaning toward to DML Panzer IV Ausf H "Vorpanzer". Maybe we will do a quick vote to help me decide!
Andy
Jmabx,
I'll give you a VIP seat buddy One Mig3 for the list. Consider it done. Really starting to get antsy to start too. Oh well.... October will be here before we know it.
Deafpanzer,
I've been having the same thoughts. Made this badge a month ago and decided to post it to get some feedback on it. Once i get back from work i will try to work on it some more
DoogsATX Had the chance to do a little looking today, and I'm seriously considering the Zvezda 1/48 Lavochkin La-5. Maybe pairing it with AML's decals if I can track them down. Lots of interesting variations to be had...

My La-5 is currently making its way from Sprue Bros., and my LHS is running down the AML decals.
Right now I'm leaning toward #69, but I'm also really intrigued by #58 and that totally half-a** winter camo job. Could be an interesting challenge for the airbrush.
Maybe I'll have to build a second...I mean...I WILL have the decals left over and all...

Ye Ye, any excuse. Glad i'm not the only one.

The decals are like $25...have to make sure I get my money out of them...by spending another $25 on another kit...

Well isn't that like getting another one for like half price ?? Such a deal
Randy So many to build.......So little time
Krikey!! I just realized this GB doesn't start until Oct. 1!! And here I was thinking to start building the BT-5 this weekend!! DOH!! Well that gives me time to finish my Pz.38(t) for...uh, the Pz.38(t) GB!
Kermit just wanted to let you know I will be building the 1/48 ICM Yak-7A for the group. If I can get a second build in it will be the ICM MIG-3
Kermit please sign me up for a second 1/48 Zvezda Lavochkin La-5. I just ordered two Eduard masks, so between them and the decal sheet, it'd be a total waste if I didn't do a second.
That makes sense...right?
DoogsATX That makes sense...right?
Makes perfect sense to me.
Dunno if it makes sense but i sure as hell like it alot!
Just updated the front page with your build(s) buddy. Have fun

Awesome, thanks! Planning to build #69 for sure...think the second will probably be #58. That shoddy distemper whitewash job just looks like a really fun challenge. And a chance to experiment with salt chipping.
Looking forward to seeing your work!. Do you have any idea yet how you are gonna accomplish the whitewash? As far as my knowledge goes alot of winter paintjobs were applied in the field so airbrushing it on might be a bit of a challenge to recreate something like that. Seen people use all kinds of methods.

I've put a little bit of thought into it, but I'll probably obsess a lot more about it once I actually break out the kit...
As for now, the plan goes something like this:
A similar process seemed to work pretty well for this guy: http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Modeling/Lavochkin/La-5/Vector/FullBuild/Sekularac/index.php
Sigh. I ordered my AML La-5 decals through my LHS. Turns out they're backordered at Squadron, with no idea when they'll come in.
So now I've ordered the sheet through a UK website. With shipping, it's still $6 cheaper than Squadron's list price. Go figure.
