Just under three weeks! I can almost taste it now.
Frank
YES!!! Excellent photo Buddy!!!! You captured Sean Tucker framed by the Blues!!! AWESOME!!!
aboard Buddy! Glad to have you here mate.
lewbud Frank, You might as well build the divine scale kit because Pegasus doesn't make a F/A-18 kit.
Frank,
You might as well build the divine scale kit because Pegasus doesn't make a F/A-18 kit.
LOL! Hmmm... did the Sarge put you up to that? If he did, I have it on good authority that he does in fact have a Hornet in his stash.
Great pic, BTW!
You might as well build the divine scale kit because Pegasus doesn't make a F/A-18 kit. I'd like to throw my hat in the ring with either the C or F model provided by the CAG as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. As for F/A-18 pics, I'm a little partial to this one as it was taken by meself at last years Alliance Air Show in Fort Worth.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
***BUMP!***
Just thought I'd bump this thread back up to page 1. Also found this video at Youtube, too bad it's a score instead of the jet sounds.
Oh yeah, forgot about the Italeri offering! Anyone have any experience with that kit? I read at Cybermodeler that Italeri not only gives you the needed parts, they also updated the basic kit to address some issues with the previous offerings (E and F). Two thumbs up to Italeri for doing that!
Frank, if you can find it you could just pick up Italeri's 1/48 Growler kit. No conversion req'd.
Twobobs also carries some colorful CAG decal schemes.
Building Now:
1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%
1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%
Upcoming:
1/48 Revell F-14D
Yeah imagine the vibration in that building.....
That scorpion tail art is very nice, the top one is an eye catcher
Julez72
Now that is an AWESOME photo! I bet that guy on the balcony needed clean shorts after that pass.
Glad to help Steve, hope you find some you like there. BTW, I ran across this sheet from Afterburner Decals.
Love that stinging tail art! I am thinking of trying an EA-18G Bug, but am having trouble trying to locate the conversion set for it. Sprue Bros has been outta stock on the Steel Beach offerings for some time, and to be honest, I am unsure which of the two sets they offer I would need based on the photos on their website. One set is listed "without pods", and the other with. But, both photos look very similar.
Fran, thanks very much for the link to the decals, im going to brouse through them soon and see if anything strikes my fancy
Steve
Twisties, i'm sure you will do fine with the 2 tone camo...BTW Nice Mirage pic in your avatar, i've got one of those to do as well....
Steve,
Here's a link to Fightertown Decals. I have picked up a few of their sets, but haven't used them yet- plan to for this GB! I have bought them from Sprue Bros, but also ordered from them direct for sheets that Sprue Bros doesn't carry. Have fun looking through the options!
Here is a pic of a Hornet

Those were some fantastic pics of Hornets, I need to get some high vis decals for my kit. Ive been searching but nothing I like yet. Anybody have suggestions for a site where there is a good variety of high vis decals
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
This build should be interesting, first aircraft model in a looong time, plus I'm still not too good with the airbrush. Oh well, at least I enjoy this stuff.
i'd go for the 1/48 as well
Twisties, hey to the GB and the forums....It's good to have another RAAF build going on, thats one from 77 and one from 75...Sweet
macattack80 Great Hornet pics all. Thanks for sharing. Daywalker, I will build 2 Hasegawa F/A-18F models in 1/72 and maybe a Revell F/A-18E in 1/48. Or better yet, we can vote on it if you all would like. Both 1/72 or the single 1/48?

Hmmm...
Do I pick the two kits, or the 1/48 kit... my vote is for the 1/48 F/A-18E.
twisties, I added you to the roster! Glad to have you with us mate.
All I have to say is "digital Camo" scares me! Looks awsome though! I might try it.........some day!

Here are some cool Hornet pics!
Thanks for the warm welcome Chaps!
I love all the pics that are on display here, I will try and show some of my own later!
not sure i fyou guys have seen this one. Probably have, but this is very similar to my build.
and on that note, anyone know of a good source for 1/144th pilots? I was going to hijack them from the dragon F-14, but after looking at them... looks like they were sculpted from continually melting chocolate.
LOL, twisties, as soon as I saw that name I knew it had to be an aussie!!! Looking forward to your build mate!!!
Hi guys,
My first post on this site.
I have been lurking here for a while, and saw this GB, what better opportunity to dust off my HobbyBoss 1:48 F/A-18A Hornet.
I'll be modelling it after an RAAF Hornet from no. 77 sqn. (this bad boy)
Also, apparently we have 5 new super hornets in town at the moment for weapons testing, might have to head down to Edinburgh and take a peek.
Yes nice sceme choice CAG!!!!
Julez, that is normal for the Blues!!! The solo's take offs are the low and high end of the Bug's performance envelope. The low end, they do a down and dirty roll after lift off. The high end, gets to take off speed sucks the gear up(no pull up) then hauls back on the stick! Impressive show from the start!!!
Frank, holy crap those Blue Angels pilots really dice with death don't they.....Oh yeah the RAAF only recently released that pic....
Tango, good to see you here, love that scheme you have chosen, awesome
Julez- AWESOME pic, never seen that one before! Anyone else have some cool Hornet photos? Please, feel free to post your favorites!
Darren- aboard mate! Great to have you here, and what a striking (and fitting) CAG scheme- never thought a lot about that one until I saw you were building it. I looked at it more closely, and WOW! What a cool looking bird. Great intro photo too, well done.
