Been hearing some interesting Macross Kit news. The 1/100 VF-1S kits by Wave apparently you can combine the Fighter with some of the Battroid parts to make an accurate Gerwalk.

Yep, the steps are shown in the Battroid kit instructions.

Also, it seems there's a 1/48 VF-1S fighter and a VF-1S Super/Strike egg plane coming soon from Hasegawa.

For recessed gaps like on the Bug, I use either needle-files(ditto for motobike engine fins), or tape some sandpaper over a popsicle stick to make a home-made sanding stick.

Found the gaps on the bottom hatches a bit tougher to fix.

VF-1D is a nice kit.

Talked to my son he should have his RG Gundam finished by the time I get back.

For October/November I got a Patlabor Dio planned in SD.

Job is keeping me busy as we at times have to work 23hrs non-stop.

I am @ a cross roads about the Bug Eye, I am trying to figure out away to fix the really ugly seam down ea side of the body, have some ideas, but just do not seem to be able to get this up and going. 

The worst aspect about that seam is that it's sitting at the bottom of a narrow recess and that makes it difficult o sand. Back in the day I just left it, but if I were doing it today I would be layering on sometihng like Tamiya's Liquid Surface Primer and then smoothing it out with a tissue or paper towel moistened with denatured alcohol. The recess is painted black and will mask flaws to an extent if you're not looking at it too closely.

The VF-1D is a sweet build and goes together nicely. No major seams or gaps, IIRC. Go easy with the glue on the outer part of the forearms if you want the hands to slide. If you ue a thin liquid glue here it will lock everything up solid.

Been frustrating on how to display the Fan-Racer. It don't come with a landing Gear and the display stand adaptor is for an OOP stand.

Standard racing scene background seems a bit boring, so I was thinking of doubling it up with Egg-Plane Valkyrie( in Hikaru Marking).

Something like flying side-by side or similar.

What you think?

Mad-Modeler: I'm digging that Fan racer. I didn't realise it was a plastic kit, I thought it was resin. I've got some old Pro-Modeler cockpit decals for WWII fighters in 1/48 and 1/72 if you need some.

TD4438: Nice work on the base. Hand painted?

 

The red and yellow striping is hand painted.The base over all was sprayed ghost grey first.

The shading around the markings is Tamiya soot powder.After that it was sealed with Testors dullcoat.

Myself slowed down due to current assignment, don't really like to do them but they pay well. Yesterday we had a dicey moment but all went well without injuries.

Thx, for the decal offerings, I got some 1/60 decals coming in and will work something out on the console, got an idea and sort of an insider joke.

It certainly appears to be the 1/170 Factory kits (not that it's an issue, just an observation).

The Factory sets come in 2 different scales. The Robotech Factory set you got is 1/00 scale and is a mix of 2 kits.

The kit TD is doing is 1/170 and there are 4 kits(Battroid, Valkyrie, Gerwalk, etc) that can be arranged in a variety of patterns. to build a multi-story facility. He hasn't added the backwall and Girders yet.

Not notpicking, just checking about what I'm looking at with your build.

Could you double-check the scale?  The Factory set I was thinking of was the 1:100 scale Revell Robotech one with the Armored VF-1J and Tomahawk and factory all in 1 box, but that Armored Valk is a VF-1A and base looks like it's from the set of kits in either 1:200 or 1:170 with one mecha per kit and factory bases that snapped together.

It looks great either way , and the weathering is actually even more impressive if it's the smaller scale.

GM, your little VF-1J was a nice little bonus.

My little VF-1D above was a kit, not a toy. It was a Revell "Robotech" boxing of a 1/170 Imai snap-kit from about 1984.

Can't wait to see what you do with that Super Messiah, GM.  I have some of the kits in that series myself, including the Luca custom for the GB, and would still like to add the Armored variants to the lineup.

I'll especially be watching for how the PE works out.  I've been aware of the detail sets, but reluctant to get them since 1) I'm not sure how the PE parts would hold up with even occasional transformation, 2) as you've noticed, transformable kits already tend to inherently involve a lot more work due to the higher number of parts needed, and 3) my complete inexperience with PE would make for a very expensive experiment, and I'm waiting until I find a project to build PE skills that won't be such an expensive dead end if I screw up.

OH FORGOT, I have a toy to play with like Phil H and Harshman II.  LIke I said, the guy was a bit late sending and included a little sum sum for my long wait.  1/144 VF-1J w/stand.  Have not put the decals on yet, but I will.

Well, I just could not take it and see that these things are another form of Transforming Mechs, I just gotta throw my hat into the ring to, if that's OK.  Here is what I have chose/ordered.  Hope it is OK, I do not see where anyone is doing this one.  Let me know if it is suitable?  I hope so, it was not cheap!  But boy does it look slick.

Meet my little buddy. He's not part of this GB but I've been tinkering with him to get into the mood.

It's one of those little 1/170 scale snappys, started a long long time ago and ended up boxed until a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to see if I could make such a simple little kit look half-way decent.

BTW, I didn't use the Mr Color on this one - the paint jar is just there to give a size reference,

I managed to twist one of the leg mounting pins right off and while it's just holding at the moment, it seriously needs to be drilled and pinned.

Arrived and settled into hotel, next week I am off to Sydney for 3 days, week after that Hong-Kong and back home.

Just wanted to give a quick status report on the GB Builds:

1.) Wave 1/72 Tomahawk: Put aside for now.

2.) Yamato Fan-Racer: Need to fix some blemishes with putty.

3.) Nosajdeul Ger: Major Assemblies done, needs seam removal, etc.

4.) Missile Phalanx: Major Assemblies done, needs seam removal, etc.

5.) Hasegawa Egg-Plane: Ready to have decals applied.

Last 3 builds I got with me and will work on them from time to time. 4 of the builds should be ready to receive Primer when I get back.

Also brought another kit with me + Kotobukiya 1/72 Blade Liger Mirage, this is just for snapping fun as it is pre-coloured and works as a general stress-reliever.

Will create an album for it in my photo-bucket and post progress pics there.

Nice Macross ,Phil. I too have a one and only Macross toy. In the past, I used to have the idea of detail its panel line and give some weather over it but after a while I think I just keep it as it be..   Its a 1/100 Toynami 3 mode transformation of VF-1S
