Air Racer GB Round 2

got some stuff sorted at home. things are settling down a bit, still really unmotivated though. ill keep an eye on things and try and make sure stuffs up to date. I may enter with a scratch build, or my bearcat, see how we go anyway.

I might disapear for a few days, ive got some personal matters to sort out. might still see me floating round occasionally but my heads not really in the game right now. keep up the good work everyone.

I'm going to bring my build over from the original Air Racers build, 1/72 High Planes RB-51 and add another.  The second will be JD Reed's Jay Dee P-51D from the 1949 Cleveland Air Races.  Kit will be the Tamiya P-51 and that offbrand scale 1/48.

I was amazed at Reno when the Formula 1's were racing. It's like watching nine mosquitos in a jar. Somehow the announcer pretty much kept it straight.

 I've got the two Williams Bro.s kits in the Golden Age Class. Have to finish Tantrum and another little project, then I'll start on an F6F for the Ally cat GB and the two for this build.

Fifteen minutes after I made my previous post this morning; on a different forum someone offered me an S.6! How weird is that!

You know what, im gonna say yes, just this once so people have some inspiration. I like what youve done with it so im gonna put it up on the front page. From now on though, kit status must be at 50% or less to enter.

It never competed in the Schneider Cup because of mechanical teething problems-imagine!, but it became a record breaker. In 1934 Test Pilot Agello piloted the plane for an astounding average speed of 709 km/h (440 mph) over three passes. This was the aircraft speed record for five years, and remains to this day the record for propeller driven seaplanes. Rare Bear only went  90 mph faster (well, that's a lot).

Ok, well ive made p my mind, im going to drop the race number rule. It will now be replaced with "Must be a race style aircraft" I think, maybe reword it a little. Lemme think about it.

Reason im changing this is it was said a little earlier that not all race planes have numbers. And during ww2 (maybe just after) 41sqn painted up a spitfire for racing without any race numbers. So im dropping the race number rule.

Sorry, I should have asked. I'll do the Curtiss first anyhow. We'll call the SM 72 a side show.

 

I remember seeing some pictures of very early Golden Age racers during races without numbers on them.

WOW that will be nice Bill!!! When you said it was 1/24, I didn't realize it was a card model!! Looking forward to this one for sure!! I have some good drawings of her in an OLD Air Combat magazine, circa 78-79 I can scan and post?

Here's my second build, gentlemen. It's a card model of the Macchi M.C. 72, in 1/24, by Oron. I bought a box of 32 lb. matte photo paper and printed her out on the best HP inkjet printer I own in the firm. I have taken over one of the drafting tables, and set up a station to work on at lunch hours.


It's been a long time since I built a card model, like 35 years. But I think I have the skills.

Bondoman- The prop blades on this bird gives me some great inspiration for the blades on Tantrum in the first round GB. One wild looking bipe!  

  Nice kits , good score. I have a Hallmark , Pioneers of Flight, ornament of the Curtiss racer. It's tiny, about a 3 inch wing span, but looks very cool. A very nice looking airplane.

Mikey - My build will be 1/48 but I don't know what to put it down as because I will be using mostly spare stuff from the spares box. I will probably use an old Glencoe Albatros for the donor but it will be unrecognizable as such when all is done. I will call her the "Foster Special". How do you think I should list it? As a 1/48 Glencoe Albatros? That sounds good!
