Besides the photoetch parts...I'm getting a bad case of scratch builditis which is dragging this build out for me.

The kit with that darn seam down the middle and oversize portholes.

Using plastic sheet to cover the seams

The kit turret catapult...No

Now the catapult from Gold Metal..

The fighting top searchlight platform.

And this is where I'm starting to go a little overboard...

Having came across some excellent photos of not only the Arizona but her sister ship the Pennsylvannia, I'm looking at adding some wiring, plumbing,  junction boxes etc so to spruce up the smaller detail aspect of the kit..

Ditto  June would be good.

I'm having fits with this Banner Arizona kit but I think it''s going to look pretty good when done. Will post a few progress pics on Thurs.

Archangel Shooter

EXTENSION! EXTENSION!  I have been working on my Arizona kit and first thought I would have been done by the end of the month but I caught myself into wanting to really detail it out and so besides using the Gold Perry photo etch set I have been doing a lot of scratch building too.

Thats fine with me.  I have been on a modelling slump myself as of late.  So ya what do you think like June maybe??

As of 1630 hours, 29 Feb 2012, PST, I am calling this one done. Academy's 1/350 new tool Graf Spee. Built OOB with no add on parts and only some slight modsby me.

First up, the required giant penny shot with the float plane

The kit nameplate and stand

and multiple views of the completed beast

How about a high angle shot showing that F-8 on the flight deck?

This morning I applied some rigging to my Graf Spee. I could not duplicate the actual rigging as the kit masts are inaccurate- both lack a lower yardarm, the aft mast lacks braces to the funnel top, and the forward superstructure lacks yardarms and booms that are rigged in with the foremast. So I kept it simple and went with what I could based on photos.

Your carrier is sure looking good RH Yes

Today I pulled my Graf Spee off the ready shelf and attached the last parts. First up, I took a suggestion from Manny and used hair for the crane cables. Good thing my 19 year old daughter has long dark hair. It works perfect.Wink

Then I installed the cranes and the fore and aft masts

And the screws

and my final assembly parts on the Spee herself, the fore and aft jackstaffs

Everything in place (except the Arado Float plane which I plan to finish tomorrow), and ready for a final flat coat. And some form of rigging.

with a couple Type VII (VIIA and VIIC) U Boats that I am finishing up- my 1/350 Kriegsmarine
