Hans von Hammer LOL, I just now noticed this... You got the ammo and guns facing in different directions... The ammo cans and belts are at the front of the turret... Don't sweat it though...

Love the engine detail on that build, now that you show it, it also looks like the canopy frame on the pilots side needs paint.
That was a tough build for me (the canopy at least) due to being my first bomber, I want to tackle it again....... someday.
Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom. Peace be with you.

Hans von Hammer stikpusher: No future Senator Blutarsky though... Just FYI, the Tami 1/48 US Infantry figures could be converted to Vietnam types easy enough... Only real trouble with them is scale.. They're all about a scale foot shorter than Monogram ground crewman figures.. But they at least got helmeted heaads and arms that'd work..

Unfortunately right now funds are too tight to afford even those. Right now I am living on stash alone...
Well today I was able to paint thebottom of the hull USN Anti Fouling Red.
The masking took longer than the painting...
and our Senator's voyage continues...

I done put my 25J in there already (pg. 15) ..... as it was my 2nd build for the "Mafia" build.
Build it again?......... not now, got to let some frustrations subside....... plus I like those fighter canopies..... for now.

Thats gonna be one wild looking F-15 P-38...
Today I completed the 1/48 scale William Holden/Lt Brubaker for the Panther and them installed him... and since those pics were requested here
And I airbrushed the top of the Mortar Shell locker white, as per what my research has determined on the PCF
so tomorrow I will mask off the locker hatch cover and clean up the overspray from that and the Hull Red.
Sorry for the delay in getting a final pic of the Mirage done...took it with Mia's new camera, I obviously need to play with the settings. All of the colors are a little wacky. Here she is:
Ended up doing her in HAF markings after having to masking tape-remove the original (poor) kit supplied French decals. The Icarus set went down much better. While I know there are some accuracy issues, it's really a great kit from a fit/detail standpoint.
Looks good next to the F-5E.

nice lookng bird Marc.. !
and thanks stik..
That Mirage is looking good there Dupes.
Today, all main painting that needs to be done prior to Future coat was completed. Overspray all cleaned up,, life raft, life rings, weapons, anchor lines, and screws (props) painted in their proper respective colors.
after the Future it will be decals, wash, and then the usual follow up of top coat, final detail painting such as navigation lights, install the cabin windows, and weathering....
I airbrushed on a coat of Future this afternoon. No other progress to speak of... Tomorrow I ought to be able to get the decals on.
Just my two bits. That life ring looks like a big ole target. if I were the Chief, I'd have painted it gray from the can in the locker or at least hung a piece of tarp over it.
NIce Mirage, Dupes; really love the lines of a delta wing fighter: sleek, fast, deadly......
Stick, the patrol boat looks great; gotta love that 50s/60s era international orange safety gear....high vis for rescuers and high vis for the enemy as well. Reminds me of my G.I. Joe 'climbing' into (or getting crammed?) into his Panther jet fighter for another dangerous mission over Korea (actually Virginia). He had that cheesy international orange life vest over his flight suit........
Any luck yet finding a 1/48th scale Frankenstein to stand in for a future Senator Blutowsky?? LOL
2022 New Year's Resolution: Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!! Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge??? Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Not yet on figures, but I have some possibilities. Your right on the life saving gear... they took the trouble to repaint and tone down the entire boat from Haze Gray to a localy improvised Dark Gray concoction and left those life rings/bulls eyes right there on the deck house sides. Picutures confirm this... And your GI Jose story sounds an awful lot like the ending of Bridges at Toko Ri where once Holden is downed he briefly debates the wisdom of wearing the Mae West while trying to E&E the Chicoms...
Stik, Dupes, nice work on the PCF and the Mirage. With the exception of a little red and green paint for the wingtip lights, I'm sticking a fork in the Bearcat and calling her done. Here's some pics
Thanks to the Don's indulgence, I will endeavor to have the Tigercat completed by 11 Nov. Otherwise I might be sleeping wit da fishes.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
Lew, your Bearcat is a real beauty! I like it!
Well, the day before yesterday I figured I would do a quick decal application and then be ready for completion on my days off this week... quick was a bad idea. Take your time and read labels is the lesson learned. I cut out the decals, got a fresh jar of warm water ready and dipped said decals in warm water... Then it was a a reach over to the Micro Scale products for some Micro Set to lay down a base of on which to apply the decals... here comes the "Doh!"... Micro Sol is Blue labeled on the bottle... so is Micro ScaleDecal Film, which I stupidly left sitting next to the other two Micro Scale decal products. When I applied the wrong product I think, "boy this stuff is really thick today" until the realization sets it.... It's freekin' decal film!!! Applied to the bow!!! A few choice are exclaimed (Harmony Church, school of language at Ft Benning would be proud) and a quick few steps to the garage sink for a rinse under hot water are next done... But the damage is done... the stuff mostly rinses off and some swipes with an ultrafine sanding/polishing stick removes the rest. But the Future beneath appears removed or damaged. I dry it with a rag and since the decals are still soaking and I am past the point of no return with them, have got to drive on in applying them. So this time I get out the correct bottle of Micro Set and swab the area and apply the decals. The surrounding Future areas take on a slight milky sheen, but no worries yet as this has always disappeared in the past when the stuff dried. Not Today When the stuff completely dried there are major white "tide" marks left on BOTH sides of the Bow around the hull number decals... But not on the stern. Those came out exactly as intended. My best guess to cause is that the hot water wash of the Decal Film softened the Future and made it susceptable to the Micro Set... I will attempt to respray more Future on the bow as I have learned that this usually cleans up such messes with Future but there are no guarantees here...
Anyways here are the pics as it looks currently...
Port and Starboard Bow shots...
and the unaffected Stern numbers
This boat almost became a "flying boat"...
Stik,, Future should fix that.. I'm hoping for u.. !
Thanx P38... I am hoping so too... tomorrow we shall find out. If it fails, there are a spare set of hull numbers for PCF 94, but that was Sen. Blutarsky's boat, and I would rather not go there... Nothing against the man or any of the crews of that boat- they all went in harms way. I respect that. I just dont care for the associated controversy BS.
who's this "Sen. Blutarsky" you people keep talking about???
Owl, have you ever seen the movie "Animal House"?
no, why?
Ok youngster, your homework in American Film Classics is to spend two hours watching this hilarious movie (be warned, it is a "guy" movie). The Senator in question is a character played by John Belushi. His character is the wild man of the fraternity who graduates college (eventually) and becomes a US Senator. Also relevant to this discussion is that Sen. Blutarsky seems to have become a codename for sitting US Senator and one time Presidential candidate John Kerry, who commanded a PCF during Vietnam.
Stik, that blows with the Future. Hopefully you'll be able to fix the problem. If you have to use the spare decals, use them and whatever controversy they may stir up be damned. History ain't always pretty or conforming to other's political views no matter how hard they try.
There's no "Future" in that mess. Stik your model is toasted.
Been there tho. I'd just face doing it over.
Bah!! to you Bodoman!!! Senator Blutarsky says: NO PRISONERS!
And believe it or not, the coat of Future that applied at midday today to the toasted areas cleared it all up!!!
Owl, being a college student and all, you should really see Animal House... a great "older" college comedy set during the Kennedy "Camelot" era.
And yes I chose Bluto for a comedic analogy of Sen Kerry in order to keep it light here and the real politics out...
As was said above history is messy... from personal experience in my own involvement in a couple events that are of actual historical significance, I know that all too well...
