MiG Alley Group Build
Posted by Casper the Chihuahua on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 5:58 PM

Hi and welcome to the MiG Alley GB (Thanks callsignowl for the name!)

Any type of MiG built by the Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG or ikoyan-and-Gurevich Design Bureau, any production aircraft, experimental or drones. Early prop MiGs are also included, all MiGs regardless of prop or jet. This also can start pretty much ASAP and go until May 1 2013. Any amount of AM or OOB is fine. Scratch built is also fine if anyone feels game and fictional aircraft are also a go.

We have a few starters so we may as well begin and pickup builds as we go along. WIPs are a must, crossovers and partially started kits are allowed.

Please take the badge;

and have fun.

Haaaaaa, figures I'm just finishing up a MiG (1/72 Hasegawa -17)...didn't see this thread until just now.

Looks like a long enough time line - let me see if I can find something else to crank out!

then.. my gridline

the kit is boxed as revell but this is the only part from revell , the decals sheet (and are printed in italy Hmm )

Photobucket

recently i got six k-36d from pavla to start this mig , the mig-29ub and a su-34, i like to not use aftermarket parts but to scratch six equal ejection seat will too tedious.

Photobucket

heres the "zvezda" sprues

Photobucket

Photobucket

handsgrip test fitting

Photobucket

Photobucket

as you can see there's have no engraved lines but "very" engraved and large lines

afterburner nozzles have no details, and out things are no better.

parts are enginered in a strange way.. (lots of work needed to made something decent)

Just as information, someone know a better mig-31 kit in 1/72 scale?

The foxhound is a giant even in 1/72 scale, i compared it with same scale four engines grief and with a super etendard

Photobucket

Photobucket

ok that's all for the bench, i'm counting to start works this weekend

Wow...that MiG-31 IS huge! I had no idea. Didn't realize that Revell did a boxing - isn't that originally a Zvezda kit?

i hope not make troubles with resin pieces , i used in past metal ejection seats but never managed resin Sad

I'll sctatch the cockpit tub, the one in the kit is totally wrong, and yes Dupes , the mold are 100% from zvezda , but unfortunately not at actual zvezda standards (es. like the new mil mi-26 i love it!).

some update

free bases ejection seats with dremel hard disk Black Eye

matt black first layer on seats (other two for mig-29 in aircraft section)

these piece are the ex cockpit tub and ex afterburner conduct...

start to cut something of forward fuselage

now some free space to scratch new cockpit (original ip is flat! then on the recycle too!)

at least the plastic of this kit is easy to cut.

some update for the 31

starting scratch cockpit

measuring with caliber and cutting pieces needed for bulkheads and cockpit floor

glued and fixed with extra reinforecer

using references and ejection seats i find the right height for the cockpit floor, the rear need just to stand on the front well.

increased at the right height with 3 mm

then added the middle bulkheads glued to the floor

that's all for now!!

scale drawing as reference (included see through views of cockpit ) at airwar.ru Cool

some update

start to add consolles

on the picture a fantasy figure that will explain soon

carefully cuuting excess plastic the cockpit fit good

tha's all for the mig.

I decided to put the foxhound in a basic diorama, just as showed in some russian parade to public.

I'll just put it in a concrete base, probably some civilia that look where putin put people moneys Big Smile

and to survey the mig put a police woman , here some good reference

So.. i don't have a set of russian police then some scratch needed.

To scratch a body in 1/72 is not so impossible, but faces are another question , then i'll use pieces frome the above elven fantasy figure from caesar miniatures

after some cut (included elves ears) take measures to scratch the legs from evergreen rod, really good to carve

and now thats really all, i do this waiting the glue dry on the cockpit
