i never noticed there was still a seam there.

well the wings are on, i dont need to worry about how well they fit, i know they will need filler anyway, what im worried about is whether the wings are straight

BTW, I'm going to be using my airbrush for this model, ive never used an airbrush before. So i have no idea how this will turn out... 

I'll probably prsctice on some wood or something...

yes, more filler needed, don't miss under the engine. Revell sure did better kits than the little mig, i have the gannent and the phantom and the greif in 1/72 and can assure are between the best kits i never see in this scale.

Sorry for no updates on my foxhound but triyng to finish other less modded kits for others gb that going at end.

I consulted lots of reference pictures and an hard work of full scratch needed on the afterburner section, totally wrong on the kit.

Yes i did pick up a Tamiya Zero in 1:48, at McCanns model world, i also picked up a Hobbyboss 1:72 P-40N this month.

I'm going for the Red 02, for this kit.

well the revell kit didn't give a very good first impression! first of all the fit was terrible! the cockpit didnt want to fit in the fuselage! and then the body halves had no guide holes to hold the fuselage together! (same thing with the wings).

the wings also needed filler!? (i havent assebled the wings to the fuselage yet).

the props cone didnt fit with another segment so i had to sand some more....

so much filler and sanding!!!

Anyway here are some pics, as always comments are appreciated!

I had to come in with my hobby knife, and cut out sections so the seat/cockpit will fit in!

not bad start real baron probably you had the same shock as i build my first not matchbox kit 

Cool another Mig prop! Welcome to the world outside of Airfix! I seem to remember you saying you picked up a Tamiya Zero. Can't wait to see how that goes as well.

I finally got around to starting my MiG-3

this is the first ever kit ive built that wasnt airfix

i think the cockpit detail is pretty good for what it cost.

i added seatbelts & the kit even came with a decal for the control panel.

Just the tires looks a little strange, i use for drybrush a little flat brush from tamiya hf set on little pieces, nothing in particular

Nice MiG Owl!!! the winter camo is great, if yo allow , just try to improve the 1/72 weathering on wheels don't seems so good, the washing created a strange effect

Theres just something about a MiG-3 ya just gotta love

and, the little MiG is finished! I applied white acrylic paints with a brush over the enamel base camo, making sure to not paint over the markings. After it was dry, I smoothed/scuffed it up with some steel wool. Then the exhaust stains were applied by first dry brushing grey along the stain trail. Then using black, I dry brushed the darkest stains closer to the exhaust.

The wheel wells were too shallow, but I felt too lazy to carve them out; so I just added some basic ribbing detail instead. The antenna was made from invisible thread super glued in position and colored black with a permanent marker. I really like how everything turned out!

I went trucking on and forgot to take pics of the finished cockpit detail! oops  ....nothing much, just the sidewall detail shown earlier and seat belts. I completed the construction stage and had a bit of puttying to do!! The fit of wing join on this kit wasn't that good.

after that was finished, I painted the summer camo in preparation for decaling and the white wash. I'll be doing this similar to how the original planes were painted, quickly and by hand! 

Good work Owl, should be just the right level of detail for this scale. I like revealing just the hint of detail and this should work well.

This labor day weekend allowed me to take some time off from my studies and give my brain a break. I started construction on the little Zvezda MiG-3. There was no cockpit detail whatsoever. I scratch built some simple details to busy it up, but didnt go crazy because the canopy could not be posed open to show anything off.

when canopy are in a single piece , a chainsaw can really resolve needed cuts

Strange that dragon not put the nose pins i can expect this from amodel or other shortrun factory..

bsyamato: Thanks. I noticed the nose after I had painted it. I was really suprised because there were notches to help line them up and I still had issues. I really thought  the fit on this kit would have been better being a Dragon kit. Overall it was a great kit to at least learn some things on.

As far as the antenna I had trouble finding some good pics showing the wire. I will probably tweek it if I com across some new info.

Well.....she is finished. I was very thankful for this build. Nice break. Also allowed me to work on my NMF....still need some fine tuning. It was my first time working with Testors Metalizer AB paints. Here are the pics.

Some of the issues I ran into: The canopy does not fit together and must be left open. The decals for the fusalage and wing bands were too short....I ended up painting them....lucky for me the Tamiya colors I used worked out ok and matched the Egyptian AF markings. All feedback is welcome.

Hey all. Well I got started on my Mig-17. I figured after the last couple builds I recently finished this might be a a good "easy" brake. The DML kit is pretty good with the detail you would expect. There are some seam issues, including the main fusilage that is just giving me major issues. It just seems to reappear on it's on. I initially started out thinking I was going to do a Jian of the PRC, but have decided to use the Egyptian AF marking provided. I figure with all the other Mig and Su kits I have there will be plenty of "red" stars. here are some pics.

I've only got two MiG on the shelf....Monogram's MiG-29, and a MiG-21 from a company called OEZ. Both 1/48. The -29 was my introduction back into modeling after a few years break, and the -21 was my first foiling attempt:

Bysamato, I've had similar problems in the past with Airfix.

Well I'm calling this one done, having added brass pitot, guns and antenna mast.

I first built this when I was about 14, and had fond memories of this kit.

...and now the even older Mig 25, my first attempt at a postwar Russian jet.

I ended up re-scribing chunks of this due to the amount of filling and sanding it took to sort the fuselage seams out.
