Hercmech thanks, that really sucks about the decals how old are they? I use testors spray on decal bonder on the really old ones and it does work you just have to trim them really good. I know thats no help now that they're already toast.

Bsyamato I did'nt think it could get better but those outside shots really bring it to life,you should do a couple retro black and whites as well.

I spent some extra time masking off 3 different shades of metalizer,stainless,magnesium and aluminum plate. Then I used the grey green on the flight controls. Hopefully this will break it up a bit and give it some depth in the finish

Love your Zero Jailcop.  Good job on the panels. Question though: shouldn't the cowl be more of a semi-gloss black though? Were you opting for a faded look?

Bsyamato: Love the B&W photos- I went ahead and switched it for the earlier photo. Do you want me to put down the Val as you next model? I think it was the 1/72nd Fujumi kit? If you've got your heart set on the Mavis please by all means go ahead but frankly I don't think it's worth 38 euros (checked and that's over fifty bucks US). I'll see about posting some photos of my kit if you want to see it but it's not that great a kit.

The decals were printed in 1996. This is the first time I have had decals disenigrate on the paper. I did try to use the micro decal film stuff. Maybe I should have tried the Testors stuff. But I have new ones on the way we'll see howw they work out.

i'm surfin between the fujimi kits for the next ( at the end the lower cost between 1/72 kits )

try to fit more than one or two in the same order and keep an acceptable final price with supplies.

candidates are the va, the claude, the ida and the jill! what's your advice between these subjects?

hey guys im posting from my phone again while away at work so it may be difficult to read lol.  thanks to all for the kind words on my zero.  this has definitely been the most detail, in depth model ive done in my short stint as a modeler.  for those that commented on the engine cowling, that was semi gloss black, but turned gray for some reason when i sprayed the final coat of flat base on it, i dont know why, maybe a bad reaction with the future.  i plan to repaint it when i get home this weekend.  as for the antenna, it was such a pain in my ass that i doubt im going to do anymore with it, and chalk it up as battle damage lol, and as a lesson to leave small outer parts like that until the end.  i also damn near broke the pitot tube off more than once.  once again thanks for the feedback and sorry for the text block, damn smartphone isnt very smart!

Jailcop if the humidity was high moisture in the air will cause the darker colors to 'haze' or 'milk' a simple fix would be a quik spray of semi gloss

Cliff I was hoping to replace my Ki84 Frank pic with this upgraded one I fixed a 'propblur' on and toned down the exhaust stains(they seemed a bit much to me) thanks in advance

Nope no breguet!, was in the same order of the Nate. I'll re-try this time if they restock something from smer.  Perfect painted Suisei

Herc: I think the term is pre-shade here though I get pre-shading and post-shading mixed up. Anyway I painted the aircraft duck egg blue (any light grey would work, it's just that I have about a dozen bottles of the stuff- don't remember buying them, don't know where they came from) and shaded the panel lines with dark grey on the bottom and black on the top. Then I painted the top coat on just heavy enough to be able to see a little of the shading underneath.

Yep, that`s the ONLY reason I`ll buy a 1/72 kit these days, interesting or not-oft modeled subjects. I like building fighters too but how many Zeros and Mustangs can a person build!?! Those bomber windows are way bigger in 1/48!

Well I do have a few bombers in 1/72nd but they're American and British mostly. Haven't done any in a while because of just that- masking those darn greenhouse canopies.

I think the interior looks pretty good, plenty of detail and it looks close to photos I've seen of the one surviving aircraft. Only bad thing I didn't like about the kit was how FineMolds uses one fuselage for the regular in-line engine and the late radial engine aircraft. The front add-on parts for the cowling didn't seem to fit all that well. Still, a little Mr. Surfacer and sanding took care of it, I did lose a little detail though.

My tips are the usuals....new # 11 blade, bright lighting, no caffeine and plenty of valium....
