If only those Japanese were a bit more practical like the Germans or Americans and just needed a number sequence eg RLM.... or FS....

Thanks for the feedback and advice guys but unfortunately I think the needle is a write off. Looking at it again this morning I noticed a crack in the nozzle so that is the end of that. Hopefully I've learnt my lesson and not decide to drop my airbrush anymore.

The seat is now done and gone into the cockpit. I sanded the cushion on the backrest and drilled out the holes although they are a bit wonky and look a bit on the small side but the top of the seat was beginning to crack so I didn't want to risk any further damage.

I must say that Hasegawa really had their A game on when they designed this kit because putting the fuselage and wings together was totally drama free.

Canopies masked off and ready for painting. Really looking forward to adding colours and weathering this plane.

That looks really cool although bigger pictures would help us see the model better. I would love to do a ship one day but they just seem so... massive.

Primed and ready to go although this will probably be the last time I prime straight from the spray can. It's just too hard to control hence the spot on the plane's right side. is it possible to decant Tamiya's primer and spray through an airbrush? If so what do you use to clean it afterwards?

Also about my previous post about Hasegawa being on their A game for this kit... It still is, except for the landing gear. Those poly caps suck. I read about them in other forums and for some stupid reason thought "That wouldn't happen to me".... I snapped one trying to get the alignment right. Just like the guy in the article I read.

Frightful: Nice work, not sure about weathering, I don't think it would be very heavy though. Maybe some of the guys in the ships forum could help you out there?

Blitzwing: Looking good to me other than the rough spot there. I've never tried to decant Tamiya primer but good luck spraying it, it's about the only primer I've never had build up too thick on me the same way it did for you. Not sure if it's enamel or laquer or what.  I've got one of those in my stash and was a bit duboius about the rubber caps for the landing gear too.

DO NOT EVER DECANT TAMIYA.  Just about all i have is Tamiya and i have lost several paint brushes to decanted tamiya sprays.  I dont know the effect on air brushes but be warned that the paint glues the bristles on a brush together.  I have decanted other paints before and they worked fine.

Awww I am touched Frightful. Can I have $1,000,000 to go with that? Stick out tongue

Here it is my NMF Ki 84

I experimented with some salt weathering with two types of metal colours on an phantom kit and it turned out alright.

I might play around with it a bit more before trying it out on the Frank but while I am on the subject of weathering, did the paint on the yellow leading edges flake as well or was it the sterner hinomaru paint that didn't flake? I'm a bit on the fence about painting or using the decals.

Yes, the yellow chipped and I always paint the leading edges after having decals that were a bit transparent.

Those two ships are hand painted! Surprise

Now I REALLY can't wait to see the larger pictures. They look awesome enough already.

And also thanks for the advice Len. Luckily those strips are easy enough to mask.

FF: Really nice work there, I'm looking forward to the bigger photos to check out all the detail!

BW: Super job on the NM, looking good!

As I understand it the ground crews repainted the hinomarus as they chipped. You might add a few spots of darker red paint to give the impression that these areas were repainted with fresher paint. I'm not sure about the leading edges but I'd think it would be about the same thing.
