At last night's IPMS meeting we had our annual White Elephant gift exchange.  I scored again with a Fine Molds Oscar.  Never thought I'd build Japanese stuff till this GB.  My wallet does not thank you all.

Satch: The FM is a pretty good kit, not quite as good as the newer Hasegawa one but still a solid contender. And there's about a zillion paint schemes you can do with a Hayabusa.

Hello everyone,

I'm not dead...yes you are....no I'm not...don't be such a baby.

Just a quick update.  It's the end of the semester and I have papers to grade, final exams to grade and one paper to finish writing "Japan's Holy War: Shinto Religion and the Greater East Asian War". 

Also I'm building an F6F-3 Hellcat flown by Lt. jg. Arthur van Haren, Arizona's leading WWII ace in the U.S. Navy (9 solo kills, and 2 shared (?)).  Anyway, the F6F-3 goes on public display in the Prescott city library January 1st to celebrate Arizona's centennial (1912 - 2012).

I really don't like building to deadlines!!

The upshot of all this:  The Ki-94-I is amost complete (panel line highlighting, and some exhaust & gun staining to do), but on the back burner for another week or two.

I'll post more pics of the Ki-94 when I call it 'DONE'.

Kevin just save the badge from header of gb and tattoo it on the back upload onto your photobucket (or othres host) account ,the edit your public profile and copy the link in the "signature" tab , make some try to find your wished custom signature

  Thanks for the patience and info.  Seems to have worked!!  Oh yeah, my comments should be about the Ki-94-II.  The Ki-94-I was a radically different configuration. 

A&V Models out of the Czech Republic makes a resin 1/72 Ki-94-I, but I'm under the impression it is hard to come by even though the company still has a website. 

If you should happen to see a reasonably priced kit - PLEASE let me know,  Saw one on ebay and it went for about $30.00 (reasonable).  I think that is about the same price on the company's website plus shipping.

Glad to see you got the badges working.

Guess I like the look of the Ki-94 I better than the II but they're both really nice looking aircraft. Something I like about the last generation of prop fighters where they pushed the technology about as far as it would go.

Eric Thanks ,the only kit I used the decal yellow was on the Ki-61 the rest are all a/b and this one I hand painted after masking simply because I was too lazy to open up the shop and fire up the compressor.

Cliff ca'nt wait to see the Judy and thanks for the link always wondered how that badge slide show was done! I'm not sure if being a 'Tramp Stamp ' on Manny's back is a good thing, but hey who know's how many will see it there right?

Guys, sorry I spoke too soon on the Judy. The plane is done but I pulled the canopy masks off this morning and found paint leakage underneath. It's a big mess and I'll try to get the photos up by next weekend.

Hi Gamera,

  One thing I always do - don't know if it will help at this point is dip the canopy in Future, tape it up, and BEFORE painting I brush a little more Future along any tape seams.  The Future will seal the edge of the tape to prevent paint bleeding under and best of all it's invisble!

I also do the same thing when I tape off an upper or lower surface to spray the other.  Even it the Future does show on a paint job, when I spray Future before decaling the brushed on future disappears and the surface is a uniform gloss.

Anyway, hope it helps.

I think you need a torpedo-bomber in the near future.

I'll go put down the Hayabusa now. You might look at these guys for some unusual decals for your fighter, the Royal Thai decals I bought came from them, look under the aircraft section. I met the owner at a show a few years back, great guy.

I'm really wondering if all the big photos in one post are messing up the FSM website here. I'd like to see if a smaller photo will post, if it works I may be asking everyone with finished models if they'll be kind enough to post a smaller photo.

Kevin: Thanks, I've tried that before but normally I don't have that much of a problem. I think the leakage came from using of the old think black plastic 'Black Magic' masks I bought for the kit. The newer thin Eduard masks work much better. The thick black ones just don't flex well and I think they didn't stick well enough. I do have some more of them left and when I use them I'll have to give the canopy a primer coat of Future before I start painting- thanks for the reminder
