Ok sorted out my airbrush problem now i need to resolve the colour for my A6M3 I want to do the all grey (?) color for the Tainan Fighter Group (1st)

Kit recommends XF76 IJN Grey Green - I put a couple of light coats on but too green!

I've just put a coat of XF12 JN Grey over this but still too green/dark when comparing to pics & illustration on box - it has a yellow/brown tinge

any suggestions?

Needbeer: I'll try to help you but I'm not sure I won't get you even more confused. I've seen the early war Zero paint scheme called light grey, light blue, or light green. I remember one guy recommending painting the fighter Floquil 'concrete'.

Recently the big fad is doing it as 'Ame-Iro' literally 'candy colour' which was a caramel colour - that is sorta amber or light yellowish tan. The J-Aircraft site claims this never existed though and have been pushing a very light faded green.

Do a web search on ameiro for more information. Hopefully someone else here can help you, since I've been really confused by the whole thing and tend to stick to the later green over grey scheme.

a little dumb question

what's the pale yellow bag on the back of the cockpit, a safe boat? i see this in others aircraft, just curiosity.

Bsyamato: I couldn't figure it out either. I assume that yes it's a life raft or boat or something like that.

Maybe someone else here would know?

Was hoping you'd contribute a Zuiho build though

got the PE cockpit panels down on one side but after some battles......wow...those ribs area really delicate....they call for two bends...and on the second..most broke off...I had to remove them all cause they looked horrible...apply debonder to get all the CA then dip them in laquer thinner to strip some prepainting off....of course they were all bent so I had to straighten them out.......slow progress but looks like the worst part is over...and this is just one side...

Big-Z: I feel for you my radioactive friend. I hate friggin' PE, just put a pile of it on a Dragon M46- somehow for every part I glue on I knock three off. Still sounds like you've got the matter in hand, looking forward for photos.

Field Marshal Manstein: Well, I was aiming toward a six-month GB ending on Feb 28. but I've had several requests for a three-month extension beyond that (May 31, 2012) with maybe a second taking the GB up to a full year (ending in Sept 1, 2012).

If you extend it out I might jump in head first. Can't promise, because life changes quickly, but again, I'll see how my first effort goes.

nope, i was between the longer gb party

as i'm build an oob not problem with natural end of the gb, but if the gb runs longer i can consider to get another kit on . 

Needbeer, Have you tried SAC bomber tan? I know that muesuems are not always correct but the zero at the usaf muesum matches model master sac tan pretty well. Give it a shot and see what you think

I like your idea of different badges for multiple builds. That will inspire people like Trey into building more.

gamera when i updated my badge i realized that the written is too little when the badge is resized, then i resized mine on the badge

workin on the ki-27 cockpit to repair the silver paint damage

Gamera: Thanks for the link - i see what you mean! The colour I'm looking for they call  here "ash grey" with green tinges - the result of weathering. I've now put on a coat of Sky Grey/White (50:50) over the Grey/Green & JN Grey coats, still a lot of green but much better  - will sent pics later

today glued the through engine machineguns on the cockpit: to assembly the pieces as the instruction says will be really hard to do, probably some instruction step need some hard study on. At least the gummy silver is gone

Needbeer: I've come to the conclusion it's like painting dinosaurs, no body knows what colour is right so paint it whatever way looks good to you. The restored Zero in the GB badge is painted an off-white/pale grey which probably isn't right either.

Checking lots of references on web this can be a dramatic truth .... i remember to have between my old "aerei modellismo" old numbers some article about zero and jap marine aircraft general markings with fs references, asap i try to find it and publish something

Alright a year on this G/B that rocks got some more kits ordered!
