Here's a couple more.

I've just used Tamiya IJN green for it, and it's way darker than the photos show. I thought of mixing up 'Kawanishi Green'. It's hard to determine exactly what the colour was like. There are multiple colour mixes noted around the place, many of them complicated. Apparently no 'off the shelf' paint actually would match it. Anyway, I'm happy with the look, which is the most important thing to me.

I'm a little worried about the canopy masking. I used an Eduard set for it, to save time. Butits one of their earlier ones, using a clear plastic material rather than the current yellow tape. The tape is much better, this stuff doesn't conform to complex curves too well, and has lifted a little . Time wil ltell I guess. It's all acrylic, so it's fixable.

I do my spraying in the garage, and my modelling anywhere I can set up camp in the house. I just have a cupboard dedicated to it. The spraying doesn't seem to keep the spiders away at all. I've even had a spider disturb some wet paint. I heard of a guy in northern Australia who caught a snake in his modelling room. Good luck to him ! I'd call the Turtle man !

Anyways, I'm rushing ahead with the George.  Here's where I've got to.

Hey Len...

Thats my "hobby room" too, I set up an area in the garage, and told my wife that I have an attack spider guarding it! She freaks if she sees a spider, and if I don't keep an eye on it she will try to "straighten up" my area for me... (ahem...) we know where that leads. I have a small space heater for the colder days... Glad to hear your doing OK.

Well, my Betty survived Hurricane Sandy but did not survive my Nephew, who is doing our renovation, so that is a gonner. I`ll prolly just start fresh for the second one. trying to set up the garage in the rental we moved to for my hobby room, just a bit cold tho`.....Big Smile

I rate  the Zeke as one of my favorite aircraft, but then again the F4F and F6F are too :) You might coax me into one in the next GB.

I've been modelling since 1977 and have never built a George. Fixing that up now.

I know about the aging thing, I'm 45 and its just starting to get harder. I don't have the room for bigger scale, although I like them. 132 models on the shelf and counting...

Here's the next instalment, all set to close the cockpit.

I agree! Everyone always liked the Zero (a beautiful aircraft no doubt) But I'm with you Cliff, I like the George... with the "Tojo" a close second.Looking forward to part II !

Doug (RR)

Oh and Tony... Gonna be a great looking build by the way its starting out! I just cant do 72nds any more... I'm trying not to say it, but they tell me it might be cuz I'm a few days older then I used to be. Yeah, that might have something to do with it...(grin)

Tony: Looks like a really nice build there. Of my favorite Japanese aircraft no less!

You probably already saw this but just a reminder I'm going to shut this GB down Dec 31st but am going to allow all previously started builds to roll over into GB II starting Jan 1st.

Freddie: That's beautiful work my friend!!! Kudos!!!  Got you updated to the front page, if you'd rather have a different photo let me know. Btw what scale is she, I'm afraid I forgot.

Doug: I got a bigger response to starting a second GB than continuing this one. So I'll post the new GB around the end of this month or the first of December with start date on January 1st. Some people (like me) still have projects started for this GB still hanging around so I'll just let anyone carry over stuff to part II.

All decals and "Fiddly" bits are on for now.  Now it's on to the weathering which I think I will keep to a minimum.  Sorry for the blurry pics, a photographer I am not.  Enjoy!

BSY... I'm filling up my build card pretty fast! (ha) and Cliff... is it going to be a new build or an extention of the first? I'm mulling over the first to be built, I have a Ki 100 and a "george" begging to be built. Regardless its gonna be another good one from Gamera!

SP & Freddie: Just updated the front page with your builds!

Guys, will probably post start sign-ups for Part II around the last of November giving everyone a month to get revved up for the January 1 start. Thanks everyone for the interest, this GB has been a blast, hope the second one goes just as well! Yes

I am looking forward to it! It certainly needs some Armor too!

Hey Gamera, you're short a Frank on the front page! I took the Samurai GB Badge... gonna see if I can figure out how to make one of those fruit salads like Ordie did for me and of course incorporate it in the new one. I am quite happy with that Frank build and glad I was part of this.

RRB: Looking forward to seeing how she's coming along.

Btw: I'm finished my P-40 for your GB as soon as I get the stripe on the spinner painted- I can not get the rotten thing straight!!!

I'm going to try and commit at least an hour a day to my zero.

It's been sitting on my desk waiting to be finished and gathering dust for long enough.

Freddie, SP: you guys are more than welcome to build as many as you want. If you don't get finished by the deadline you're fine with rolling them over into Japanese GB II starting January 1 , 2013.

Freddie: nice work, the decals give her the spark to bring her to life!

Nice Job Stik, love the weathering!  now you'll need to do another Japanese aircraft.

Gamera, BSY, and Trey, thank you for the kind words. I am really happy to have built this kit and participated here.

Freddie, thanks to you also! Your Dinah is looking pretty sharp there too!  Yes I do need to build another Japanese aircraft real soon. But I have a change of residence looming in the near future so I am holding off on any new kit starts until that is resolved. I will only be finishing up kits in progress until then. And I have more than enough of those to last me quite awhile. But my next Japanese aircraft build for here is tentatively a Nichimo Kate.

Hey Gamera

After I finish this Ki-46, is it okay to get on with a third?  I have a 1:48 scale Nichimo Ki-51, type 99 "Sonja" ?  This group build has gotten me back to the workbench and now I have been clearing a few off the "Shelf of Doom".  I want to take a whack at some scratch build with this kit as the interior cockpit detail on the side walls leave a bit to be desired.

Nice Job Stik, love the weathering!  now you'll need to do another Japanese aircraft.

My favorite kit is the Nichimo Ki-43 I.  Your weathering technique would go a long way on that kit since many the finish on many Ki-43's were pretty beaten up by the elements.

Beautiful job on your "Frank"

I got a little more done on the "Dinah", and hope to finish in a couple days.  I got the decals on which, I must say, were terrible and very thick.  But, they are on none the less.   The ID bands on the wing leading edges were just awful so I painted them and I have to say they look much better.  Anyway, here are the pictures so far....Smile

Thanks for looking and hope to have her done soon!

Freddie from LI
