- Count me in for later on, I have a 1/72 Smer Amiot 143 and a 1/72 Heller Dewoitine d.510.

Definitely in Vance, at this stage it's a Mirage but it could well change. Just let me get some of these other GBs under control.

I'm not 100% sure if my idea for a build fits into the French a/c GB but I was thinking of building the 1/72 Hobby Boss H-34A Choctaw which comes with French Naval markings ...

According to my Sikorsky H-34 reference book by Len Lundh , Sud Est were building Sikorsky H-34's under license for the French Air Force and Navy ...

So would the the Hobby Boss H-34 be acceptable as a French Naval , Jeanne d'Arc HSS-1...

I didn't think I had any aircraft kits in my stash which were designed exclusively in France but I just checked the Israeli IDF stash and saw I have a few Nord Noratlas 2501 and a couple of Alouette III .

If you don't think that the HSS-1 (H-34) would be suitable , I can easierly go with either the Noratlas or Alouette

ruddratt - hey, I hadn't even been thinking of WW1 subjects, but yes, there are a good bunch to choose from there as well. Come on in!

DoogsATX - I hadn't nailed down the official dates yet, pending what everyone is up for. I know I won't be able to touch anything French until the fall, but there were a couple of folks making noise about starting shortly. I'll need to have a look at some French history, pull a couple significant dates for us.

Helo H-34 - well, not French designed, but I suppose if they built them at Sud-Est they must be using metric nuts & bolts. (I also suspect you have good info on H-34s… ) I'm using my status as "Benevolent Dictator" and giving it a green light. (Noratlas & Alouette are good options too!)

French-built with foreign markings is fine. Using a Heller kit gets you bonus points. The builder doesn't have to be a BIG FRENCH GROUPIE, but a slight accent when ordering at a French restaurant may help.

hummm... I shall peruse my stash.... it has to be French built correct ? not made somewhere else in French markings ? .. just double cking... I do have a P-36 ( Hawk 75, for French export )... in French camo markings..

Hey, is that Hawk 75 a 1/72 Heller kit by any chance?!?! (I have one sitting on my desk right now.) Maybe, just maybe, the group would allow it if... it is indeed the Heller kit; and you provide a photograph of the kit and yourself wearing a beret & eating croissant...

sigh.. no.. its a AMT P-36.. has some French markings inside.. I have kissed a Frech girl before.. and French kissed.. does that count ?? ..

I think I have a Heller F4u-7 in my stash.. in French air arm colors.. has the ame Suez markings as my Skyraider I just did...

hmmmm - french-designed, the HH's are actually built in the US.... by "Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation", which sounded too French for Texas and changed names to "American Eurocopter", which is now a subsidiary of EADS.... sweet mother, the whole aerospace industry is owned by one man isn't it?!?! 

I wouldn't call it a 100% contribution, but I think it's "french enough" assuming there are no objections. (It will also bring some red+white SAR goodness to the group, right) I'm liking the variety that is showing up in here folks!

I will be watching the Chocktaw build with interest. I just got one aswell :-D

hmmm, still debating over my afternoon café-au lait - were any of the post WW2 French Corsairs built in France?

Seeing as how France was occupied by the Germans, and the Allies blasted anything that even looked like a factory ahead of D-Day, France was simply unable to build anything of their own for several years post-war. According to (yes, I know...) Wikipedia: 

the The last production Corsair was the "F4U-7", which was built specifically for the French naval air arm, the Aeronavale. The XF4U-7 prototype did its test flight on 2 July 1952 with a total of 94 F4U-7s built for the French Navy's Aéronavale

the -U7 was built specifically for France on American soil. I'll assume that, had France been able to, she would have built this machine in-country under license, making it eligible for the GB.

Hi Theuns , the Hobby Boss H-34 kit goes together quite well ; However there main rotors are going in the wrong direction and I have been using spare rotors from the Italeri H-34 kit to replace them

Also the tail rotors are also going in the wrong direction as well but so does italeri's . I'm going to cut the shaft from one side of the tail rotor and glue it onto the other side , which is a lot easier than cutting the four tail rotor blades off and turnning them over .

Vance , I like the idea of "Bonus Points" if we build a Heller kit , so I'll add the Nord 2501 Noratlas as well .

I have a Israeli Noratlas under construction as part of the IDF Suez Campaign and according to one of my Israeli Air Force reference books the French Armee de l'Air were operating Noratlas in support of Israeli columns in the Sinai ...

Both Noratlas builds will accompany each other nicely
