The D.520's an odd little aircraft that you dont seem to hear much about. I understand it was quite a nimble little diver.

Alright...last update before the trip.

Pre-shaded the D.520 last night...

Tonight I painted the rudder white, which will next be masked and sprayed with red and blue.

Since I had the airbrush out I went ahead and knocked out the underside gris bleu clair (50% Gunze C315 Gray, 30% Gunze C1 White and 20% Gunze C337 Grayish Blue):

DoogsATX - The more I see of that D520, the more I like the lines. A fairly small machine as well.  Where is the road trip taking you - somewhere slightly cooler I hope??

It's an interesting design to be sure - pretty small but still significantly larger than an La-5 or Yak-3. To be honest, I'm in it mostly for the awesome camo scheme!

The road trip's taking me and the family to Colorado Springs. Probably about 12 degrees cooler on average than what's here in Austin. And on the way back we're looking to take the long way and hit the War Eagles air museum near El Paso. Tons of old aircraft to ogle, including I think the only Tupolev Tu-2 outside of the former USSR...

Should be some good reference for when my Xuntong Tu-2T comes (probably while I'm on the road...)

Taking the long way home is approved!!  Xuntong kit?? Never heard of them but just spotted some info online. You have the twin-torpedo bomber on the way? Looks menacing!

I need to decide what I'm building & start picking away at some subassemblies when I have time, lest I start looking like a BIG GROUP BUILD SLACKER!! (Also working, playing ball at every opportunity & still playing dad/chauffeur)

Finally a little something to show with the D.520!

Got the canopy glass masked up last night...

And Mr. Surfacer 1200 sprayed on tonight.

Need to polish it up, then tackle the rudder red/white/blue and perhaps the preshading. Only have two more bench nights before the road trip, so we'll see what kind of progress actually happens.

Not much to show on my Mirage III. I just joined the fuselarge halves with cockpit tub and engine installed. I will have to do a little work on the front wheel well, there is a little bit of a gap between the bottom and the fuselarge.

I've got a couple of small radials that I could try that with. Will have to pick up some copper.

What's the problem Vance, don't see the pictures? Surprise

Et voilà le moteur!! at the end i break the original piece and started a scratched  new one :

excavated but more retouch needed on the engine cover

a part of actors involved

middle and larger tube for central body, smaller rod for the cilynders.

Using the original engine as reference to drill holes for new cilynders

electric copper wire used to simulate cooling fins

here actual state, left to put minor details and exhaust mainfolds

Thanks guys, the base was a "minimal effort" to say the least, I didn't feel safe leaving that delicate undercarriage by itself on a stand- alone bird. The base primarily keeps the legs in order.

I'm pretty slow at the moment as well, the hiatus is nearing! Crying

Scorpiomikey - a replica project? If they'd finished it in time it could have been used in the new Batman movie!

PaperPanzer - nice finish, base and everything. I love the shape of that machine, will have to watch for one in the future. I'll add a "finished" pic to the build list when I'm not mobile.

bsyamato - can't see your picture for sow reason, sounds like the plastic is fighting you on this one!

nice piece PaperPanzer Yes really like this original looking plane

Here few updates on the nieuport, i'm slow too lately

The attempt to detail the back of the engine. Failed! i cutted in two the worked piece to had two half cilynder but metal wire escape in lots of half circles Sad (before to cut i put CA glue on pieces )

After i just used the half plastic rod pieces without metal wire.

Used the fuselage as dime to cut cockpit floor

here actual state

At the next

Sorry about the period of inactivity, It's been to hot around here to do anything, until recently, and I didn't want to post the final pics until after the start date.

Okay, down to business, the paint cured, it was time for the next step, final assembly.-

The pilot added.-

The roundel decals are in two parts...Black Eye-

In the meantime, I decided to make a simple display base. It is just 1/2 in. MDF, painted cheap sandpaper, and loose ground foam sprinkled over the wet paint out of a decommissioned shaker jar.-

Meanwhile, the underside received all it's markings.-

A piece of scrap styrene painted MM Military Brown was used for the description stand. It and the plane are secured with epoxy.-

This was my first attempt at using the manufacturer name decal as a description.-

Clumps of ground foam added for bushes.-

All cured next morning.-

Then took it outside for a couple of pics.-

I'm calling this build done. By far the landing gear was the most difficult part, that alone took several days. The scheme follows the one on the box, but a reference book shows this aircraft in the plain green scheme you see here. In order to not get flak for it from certain individuals in the household, I swapped part of the registration numbers around. Oh well, can't be perfect. Now where's that Amiot...?Big Smile

Yup, the design was ingenious. the designers were... imaginative to say the least. The predicted top speed was around 800kmh. Running off 2 tiny V8's with tiny short props. I really dont think so. Theres a replica project going on, so hopefully when they get it flying well know the truth.

ozzman - no, French markings aren't needed, just a French aircraft. That's one of the great thing about these machines, a lot of them can be found in interesting markings.

Scorpiomikey - slightly forward-swept wings too?!?! I'm liking it!
