French a/c group build 2012-13

The french had some bizare ideas about design didnt they? Can i enter with the Bugatti 100 Racer? I just found images of the 110P Id love to build that, but the price i payed for the kit im sticking with whats in the box lol. Its the Planet Models 1:48 kit.

Theuns - well it's not being built by me, I don't have any resin in my stash beyond a few AM detail parts.

Scorpiomikey - This is where I have to confess that, well, Bugatti always sounded Italian to me!   (I suppose their vehicles are out of my price range.) Yes, come on in with your racer, I can add you right now.

Same here, but after some research, it turns out Bugatti is a French company and the original designer was French and it was commissioned by the French government (There was something about Belgium and Italy in there somewhere but i cant remember where)

The kit should arrive in the next couple weeks, hopefully.

No wonder the Model 100 was such a bizzare aircraft. Italian and french engineering in one aircraft. The pilot sits between 2 drive shafts coming from 2 angled V8's.

Thats a recipe for disaster if ever i heard one.

Kind of sounds like the "Let them eat cake" method of customer service doesn't it?! It is an interesting machine - that's the resin kit you were asking about in another thread right? I have yet to try one, will have to do so one of these days.

Yes, im nervous as hell about it. The most resin ive ever worked with was a handful of components for a TA-4K. Ive been inspired by Chucks 388

Sorry to hear that, uuh, errr, I mean CONGRATULATIONS on receiving your first resin kit!!!

How does it look? Throw a post out there asking for some pointers, the gang should be able to lend a hand.

Do the aircraft have to be in French markings? I have Eduard's Mirage IIICJ in isralei service that I may enter.

ozzman - no, French markings aren't needed, just a French aircraft. That's one of the great thing about these machines, a lot of them can be found in interesting markings.

Yup, the design was ingenious. the designers were... imaginative to say the least. The predicted top speed was around 800kmh. Running off 2 tiny V8's with tiny short props. I really dont think so. Theres a replica project going on, so hopefully when they get it flying well know the truth.

Sorry about the period of inactivity, It's been to hot around here to do anything, until recently, and I didn't want to post the final pics until after the start date.

Okay, down to business, the paint cured, it was time for the next step, final assembly.-

In the meantime, I decided to make a simple display base. It is just 1/2 in. MDF, painted cheap sandpaper, and loose ground foam sprinkled over the wet paint out of a decommissioned shaker jar.-

Meanwhile, the underside received all it's markings.-

A piece of scrap styrene painted MM Military Brown was used for the description stand. It and the plane are secured with epoxy.-

This was my first attempt at using the manufacturer name decal as a description.-

Clumps of ground foam added for bushes.-

All cured next morning.-

Then took it outside for a couple of pics.-

I'm calling this build done. By far the landing gear was the most difficult part, that alone took several days. The scheme follows the one on the box, but a reference book shows this aircraft in the plain green scheme you see here. In order to not get flak for it from certain individuals in the household, I swapped part of the registration numbers around. Oh well, can't be perfect. Now where's that Amiot...?

Here few updates on the nieuport, i'm slow too lately

The attempt to detail the back of the engine. Failed! i cutted in two the worked piece to had two half cilynder but metal wire escape in lots of half circles  (before to cut i put CA glue on pieces )

After i just used the half plastic rod pieces without metal wire.

Used the fuselage as dime to cut cockpit floor

PaperPanzer - nice finish, base and everything. I love the shape of that machine, will have to watch for one in the future. I'll add a "finished" pic to the build list when I'm not mobile.

Thanks guys, the base was a "minimal effort" to say the least, I didn't feel safe leaving that delicate undercarriage by itself on a stand- alone bird. The base primarily keeps the legs in order.

I'm pretty slow at the moment as well, the hiatus is nearing!
