Are you still working on the M3 or have I missed that. I do need to try and keep up.

I'd like to suggest that all these finished models be given to me on June 6 because that's also my birthday.  Everyone ok with that? 

Good.  Since we're all agreed on my last post, I'd like to do a 1/35 scale Sherman for this build.  Any suggestions for a reasonably good kit that doesn't cost too much?  Any variant is ok because as far as Shermans go, I only have a Jumbo in my collection right now and I know that doesn't count for this build.

I have never built a Sherman, but I have seen many recommend the Tamiya kits. They have an early (190) and a late (250). I have no idea what the differences are and which would be suitable, I am guessing the late version, hopefully Stick can help you out.

Dragon also make a wide range of M4's, a few of which might well fit, but they are a lot more expensive.

I'd go for Tamiya as well. Their sherman kits are not as pricy as the Dragon kits and the overall fit is better. Dragon's kits are a bit more detailed though. I've also heard great things about Tasca, but I never got to build one of their kits, as they are bloody expensive: 60€ compared to 40€ (Dragon) and 30€ (Tamiya)

Thanks, Bish.  I've appointed Stick as my mentor, much to his chagrin I'm sure, so I'll check it out with him.  I was kind of hoping to do a Firefly (for something slightly different), but I couldn't seem to find one online in 1/35 from a maker that I knew.

The only Firefly I found was from Dragon. I believe these boxing are their older kits with added extras such as figures. Its a bit more than the Tamiya kits, but less than the more recent Dragon kits.

Yes, I saw that one but is a little steep for me right now.  I'll find a Tamiya Sherman.  Thanks for the suggestion though.

Bruce: Wow, they look fantastic! Just finished my first model with the AK Interactive Olive Drab Modulation Set myself and though I still need practice with it am very happy with the results.

Bitbite: Good luck, the earlier Tamiya Sherman is a little long in the tooth but they're all good kits.

Tasca does a Firefly too but it's rather expensive of course.

Good to know.  No one seems to be doing a Panther yet . . . now I'm waffling.

I know of 4 Firefly kits in 1/35:

• Firefly Ic (Welded hull), Dragon
• Firefly Ic (Composite hull), Dragon
• Firefly Vc, Dragon
• Firefly Vc, Tasca (the best firefly kit out there AFAIK, but a bit more expensive)

I saw the first 3 online but all $50 and over.  I saw some awsome Normandy decals for those kits too.  But I'm looking more around $30. I hate to be stingy with model expenses but I've spent a lot on the hobby in the last month, so to keep myself in good graces with the wife, I think I I need to cool it for a bit.  At least until her/our house sale is complete (hopefully just a couple more weeks) and then I'll can go crazy for a while again. 

*lightbulb on*  Come to think of it, I don't have to decide what to build right now, do I?  If not, just sign me up as undecided for now.  Maybe I could do the Firefly after all.  I'll think of something.  Just sign me up.

OK, buddy, I got you covered. For a Tamiya Normandy Sherman, their basic M4 kit is perfect. Used by both US and UK forces in Normandy. If you want an affordable Sherman Firefly kit, Dragon re issued their two original ones, the M4A4 and M4 Composite Hull, Fireflies in their Orange Box/Cyber Hobby line. Hobby People over in Fountain Valley usually has them onhand in a $30 price range... When you start talking about the Tasca and new tooled Dragon kits, then you are looking at the $50+ price range...

Gamera, I do still want the Firefly and I've always loved British paras.  Too many readings and viewings of "A Bridge Too Far," probably.  I was once asked, "Why are you reading that book for the fifth time?  It's still going to end the same way."  Small minds.  Anyway, you've made a sale.  I'll tell them to send you a commission.  

Still going to do the M4 for this build though.  Maybe I'll add the Firefly on later.

Bitbite: Sure, no problem! Dragon just ran an excellent sale back on Memorial Day and I picked up a few kits I really didn't need to add to my overfed stash. I'd seen they were running a Fourth of July sale and thought I'd check to see if it was still going on. If you're going to do the Sherman now you might want to wait for their next big sale, I think they run a big one on Veteran's Day if you can wait for November.
