Big Joe: Who's in command?

Kelly: A guy named Oddball.

Big Joe: Oddball! He's a freak!

Kelly: He's got three Shermans all ready to go.

Big Joe: What kind of a guarantee is that? "He's ready to go." He's a nut!

Pvt. Jonesey: Well we're all nuts, or we wouldn't be here!

German tank commander: I have orders. This bank isn't to fall into the hands of the American army.

Kelly: Sergeant, this bank's not gonna fall into the hands of the American army. It's gonna fall in our hands. You see, we're just a private enterprise operation.

German tank commander: You... the American army!

Oddball: No, baby, we ain't.

Lol, I've seen the conversion kit and figures for Oddball's Sherman but I wonder has anyone ever done a diorama of them pulling the gold bullion out of the bank and loading it up on anything that will move? That would be a lot of work but pretty darn cool!

Best WW2 movie related model I'd seen in a while was someone painted (pink that is!) a Gato class US submarine up like the one in (don't remember her name) from 'Operation Pettycoat'.

right you are. where the hell did i get seadragon?

You got the USS SEADRAGON from the actual events used for the movie -

Some of the plot points of the movie were based on real-life incidents, such as:

  • the sinking of the submarine USS Sealion at the pier at Cavite Navy Yard in the Philippines
  • Commander Sherman's letter to the supply department on the inexplicable lack of toilet paper (based on an actual letter to the supply department of Mare Island Naval Shipyard by Lieutenant Commander James Wiggin Coe of the submarine USS Skipjack),
  • the need to paint a submarine pink due to the lack of enough red or white lead undercoat paint. The heat from the burning Sealion also scorched off the black paint of the nearby USS Seadragon and for a time this boat fought with only her red lead undercoat visible. This led Tokyo Rose to disparage American "red pirate submarines."
  • the torpedoing of a bus by the U.S.S. Bowfin

I understand Seaman Hornsby has been promoted (posthumously) to Petty Officer Huh?

Hey guys most of the AM resin, PE and decals have now arrived for my Spitfire so I'll be able to post a "box contents" shot tonight, YAY.

The only things outstanding are a few additional pieces from Ultracast which should be hear here in a week or so, but won't stop me from starting.

Cheers

Finished with the ribbing. The wire and pulley system is started and some detail work completed but I'm waiting on PE before I go any further. I think I'll leave the door in the down position and also go with US Navy grey. I believe waynec said he was painting his LCVP the tri-color British version so we'll have both versions.

When I click on the photo, I'm hitting the wheel that pops up, then to Get Links, then click on Direct. I hit on that and I get "copied".

Wen I post on the Forum, I used rich formatting.

Darren: Looks cool!

Jibber: I can see your photos fine by clicking the link. Not sure why it's not posting, did you use the 'Insert Image' function on the website? You could just copy and paste on the old website but it doesn't work anymore.

Not much work on the Churchill I'm afraid. It's so humid and muggy here the paint takes forever to dry when airbrushing.  Had to sand out a few runs on some other projects!

I'll work on it.

Anyway ready to assemble, the cables were easy and the fit not so bad(so far).

In the photo link, I show a Nashorn and Tiger that I was going to post to the Armor Forum, please feel free to comment.

Clemons: Yech,  I was hoping only us on the US/Canada east coast were having this weather. It's starting to dry out some now though.

Jibber: She looks good so far, the cables are nice detailing. The Tiger and Nashorn look good too, but it's kinda hard to tell without more close-up photos. Wink
