Clemens, I can't say for certain, but I don't see why that engine will not fit the Trumpy kit, you will just have to watch how you remove the Trumpy parts as of course the Aires instructions will refer to that.
I really like Aires resin sets, the only down side is that there is never any paint guide, but that's not usually an issue.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3
I have a couple of Ju 52's as well, just ordered a decal set for them both. But I think I might do one of my Jug's for the radial engine.
so a time of July 2014 to Feb 2015 would be good? I'll post it in the GB schedule
i have a pair of promodeler Ju-52s i want to build. that would fit both GBs. i don't do many planes also have some modern trucks, a big junk, 6 modern cargo ships plus the 1/350 HASAGAWA HIKAWA MARU in the stash 8 months sounds good and by july should have a plane some trucks, and a couple of boats under my belt..
Никто не Забыт (No one is Forgotten)Ничто не Забыто (Nothing is Forgotten)
Shiv: Of course im still interested! I even got myself an Aires resin set for the full engine assembly on the Thunderbolt (1/32):
I'm talking big radials here
I have 2 questions to all of you though: I want to build a Razorback Jug with that engine set, but the only big Razorback I found is the Trumpy kit. Is that kit any good? Will the Aires set (designed for the Hasegawa kits) fit the Trumpy Jug as well?´
I agree with Bish on the duration of our GBs. 8 months+ seems to be better than only half a year...
I think that time line for those two is a good one as many of the current GB's will be over by then. I don't think many of us have plans that far ahead. Though if your hoping for people to take part in both, might a suggest run it for a little longer, maybe 8 months.
Ya the transport GB. You still interested in running the radial engines at the same time? Still thinking about running it from july thru december
Ken: Take your time! There's no better way to make mistakes than to rush a build...
Shiv: It's the transport GB you're talking about, aint it?
Ken, me personally, I would play safe and give it a couple of days. I have masked Acrylic white before after 1 day and it all bubbled up when I lifted the tape. So now I always play safe and leave as long as I can between masking. there always something else that can be done in the meantime.

I found this show on you tube last night. It's good show, "Surviving D-Day: Omaha Beach 1944" Very interesting, and I thought maybe some of you, if not everyone would like to see it.
A.K.A. Ken Making Modeling Great Again
I had this post almost all typed out and for some reason it went to some internet page for hinges. If that happens again, I'll give it up for the night,
Anyhow,I sat down this afternoon and started painting invasion stripes on my P 38. After the first coat of white paint, the air compressor stopped pumping up the tank. It just kept running and the air pressure stayed at zero. Its a Campbell Hausfeld Hot dog. I guess I'll be taking that apart tomorrow to see whats wrong with it
After quite a few cuss words, I happened upon a rattle can of white paint. it is gloss white, but I have a can of clear flat. So, that worked.
How long should I wait to tape off the white so I can paint the black stripes?
Ahhhh The fun never ceases
I'm hoping to start a GB next summer for the last half of 2014, but have three GB on the go at the moment and am thinking about joining the 48 hr week end build. Lots of builds Lots of fun, just starting to run out of time. I have barely done any work on the FW-190 for this GB.
jack, I know there's a lot of great GB's on going and its keeping everyone busy. Eagle 90 and myself have plans for follow up GB's to this one which will mark the 70 anniversary of the last 11 months of the war, from D-Day to VE day. So your German vehicle will fit into that if you don't have the time for this.
Tony, Gamera, Ken and stikpusher, thanks for those compliments.
Yeah, I had hoped to add a German vehicle next year for this GB, but I've already the editor's figure GB and Eric's upcoming N.Africa theme taking up the first half 2014, hmmmm...
regards,
Jack
I hear you Stik. My build for this GB will, fingers crossed, kick off in jan. Just have my He 111 and Me 109 to finish, then 2 figures and my 88 for the Duck Hunter to get done first.
Seeing as the 111Z is already a month behind, maybe jan could be a bit optimistic. As I struggle to build more than one at a time, I am just starting as they come up.
stikpusher Bish, I am one of those guys who will kick off my build with the new year. I have projects for three different GBs working right now and am not going to start any more before January.

except for the 48 hour GB i too have sworn off starting anything new before the first but have LCVP primed and may throw a camo'd 1/35 VOSPER into this one
Those are some great looking builds there Shiv and Jack. Excellent finish work on each one. Bish, I am one of those guys who will kick off my build with the new year. I have projects for three different GBs working right now and am not going to start any more before January.

shiv, great looking build and a great addition to the front page.
Ok guys, today is the half way point in the GB. We have some great completed builds so far, and looking forward to more to come. I know many of us are busy on other GB's, but theres also a couple of guys who haven't been on the forum for a while. So hopefully they will come back soon.
Has anyone heard from Helo 34 lately. I am sure most of you saw hi post the sad news of his mothers passing 4 months ago, and he hasn't posted on the forum since
I agree with everyone Jack & Shiv. Wow, both are very good. Well Done!!!
Jack & Shiv: Wow, both of those look fantastic!!! Kudos guys!!!!!

Jack, your 1/48 Firefly is outstanding. I love the weathered finish. Congratulations on an excellent result.
Cheers
Tony
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
Shiv, sweet little build you have there, a fine example of this twin engined fighter.

Bish, Shiv and bitbite, thanks for commenting, glad you like the Firefly.
Very nice work Jack.I really like the effect on the lower parts, it turned out great.
I am calling my P-38 done. I didn't get the effect that I was looking for with the filter. I used E-Z line for the antennas.
Very cool, Jack.

jack, now that sir is a real stunner. I know its been an awkward build, but it was defiantly well worth it and the results speak for themselves. Thank you for sharing this with us, and I hope you will pop back from time to time.
And its not hard to figure out which pic to put on the front page.
shiv, that is coming along really nicely.
I have been reading up on washes and filters. Reading on the MiG site, he seems to suggest a filter first as that should be on a flat finish. Followed by the wash which should be on a gloss or semi gloss, and the filter leaves that. But jack makes a good point.
Personally, I have never done a filter on an aircraft, they seem more common on armour, so will be interested in your results.
Officially calling this one done. A burnt umber weathering powder was used to represent dirt on the lowers. Probably not the best choice as it looks very close to a rust colour, something I wanted to avoid as this particular vehicle was around for only a couple days.
I already mentioned the history on this one during the build, but if you want to read a recap, I'll post that eventually in a separate thread in the armour section. Hope you enjoy the pics, was happy to partake in this one, and look forward to what the rest of you will complete in the coming months.
Jack, nice PE work on the gun.
shiv - I like how she's coming to life, and nice intro of the yellow on the cowls to match the decal graphic. As for your question, it shouldn't matter which you do first. Unless you are doing one of those washes that requires wiping up afterwards, as that would probably lift some of the filter as well - though that might result in an interesting effect.
-------------------------------------------------------
Almost there with my build. Tomorrow should be ready for the final photos.
The .50 cal Browning did require some further scratch building so it would have a post to sit on where it attaches to the turret/copula. So a short length of brass rod, and a disc section cut from plastic rod to the rescue. Can't say how accurate it is, (on the net found a huge array of gun cradles, never realized there were so many examples), but it works for me.
The white painted ammo box is copied from period photos, though the pic of this particular tank had the box attached length wise, running parallel with the gun. The white must indicate it was a box from internal stowage?
I do have 1 question.I am going to try using a filter and have never used them before. Is it better to do the filter than the washes or vice versa?
