I hear you Stik. My build for this GB will, fingers crossed, kick off in jan. Just have my He 111 and Me 109 to finish, then 2 figures and my 88 for the Duck Hunter to get done first.

Seeing as the 111Z is already a month behind, maybe jan could be a bit optimistic. As I struggle to build more than one at a time, I am just starting as they come up.

Yeah, I had hoped to add a German vehicle next year for this GB, but I've already the editor's figure GB and Eric's upcoming N.Africa theme taking up the first half 2014, hmmmm...

jack, I know there's a lot of great GB's on going and its keeping everyone busy. Eagle 90 and myself have plans for follow up GB's to this one which will mark the 70 anniversary of the last 11 months of the war, from D-Day to VE day. So your German vehicle will fit into that if you don't have the time for this.

I'm hoping to start a GB next summer for the last half of 2014, but have three GB on the go at the moment and am thinking about joining the 48 hr week end build. Lots of builds Lots of fun, just starting to run out of time. I have barely done any work on the FW-190 for this GB.

Anyhow,I sat down this afternoon and started painting invasion stripes on my P 38. After the first coat of white paint, the air compressor stopped pumping up the tank. It just kept running and the air pressure stayed at zero. Its a Campbell Hausfeld Hot dog. I guess I'll be taking that apart tomorrow to see whats wrong with it

 After quite a few cuss words, I happened upon a rattle can of white paint. it is gloss white, but I have a can of clear flat. So, that worked.

How long should I wait to tape off the white so I can paint the black stripes?

I found this show on you tube last night. It's good show, "Surviving D-Day: Omaha Beach 1944" Very interesting, and I thought maybe some of you, if not everyone would like to see it.

Ken, me personally, I would play safe and give it a couple of days. I have masked Acrylic white before after 1 day and it all bubbled up when I lifted the tape. So now I always play safe and leave as long as I can between masking. there always something else that can be done in the meantime.

Ken: Take your time! There's no better way to make mistakes than to rush a build...

I think that time line for those two is a good one as many of the current GB's will be over by then. I don't think many of us have plans that far ahead. Though if your hoping for people to take part in both, might a suggest run it for a little longer, maybe 8 months.

I have 2 questions to all of you though: I want to build a Razorback Jug with that engine set, but the only big Razorback I found is the Trumpy kit. Is that kit any good? Will the Aires set (designed for the Hasegawa kits) fit the Trumpy Jug as well?´

I agree with Bish on the duration of our GBs. 8 months+ seems to be better than only half a year...

i have a pair of promodeler Ju-52s i want to build. that would fit both GBs. i don't do many planes  also have some modern trucks, a big junk, 6 modern cargo ships plus the 1/350 HASAGAWA HIKAWA MARU in the stash 8 months sounds good and by july should have a plane some trucks, and a couple of boats under my belt..

so a time of July 2014 to Feb 2015 would be good? I'll post it in the GB schedule

I have a couple of Ju 52's as well, just ordered a decal set for them both. But I think I might do one of my Jug's for the radial engine.

Clemens, I can't say for certain, but I don't see why that engine will not fit the Trumpy kit, you will just have to watch how you remove the Trumpy parts as of course the Aires instructions will refer to that.

I really like Aires resin sets, the only down side is that there is never any paint guide, but that's not usually an issue.

Ok, first, Shiv, I love your Lightning. A beautiful representation of a beautiful aircraft.

Second, since you guys are throwing around distant GB ideas, I was just wondering what you all would think of an Iwo Jima build starting mid/late-summerish running through March 26th, 2015. I know that's thinking wayyyy far in advance, but I've never hosted one before, and I want to make sure I get everything together.

If you plan on starting mid summer, I suggest putting out the feelers in early summer.

ajd, that's not one I would enter, I don't have any Pacific stuff, but might defiantly be worth a feeler thread just to see if there is enough response to make it worth while. I assume it would be a combination of ships, aircraft and armour. Your time frame sounds good, there are a few new GB's planed for early next year, and if there are two many running at one time, it can be hard to get people to commit and when they do, they can find it hard to find the time to fill all the commitments.

I would second Stik. If your planning a start in say August, I would do a feeler no later than end of May with a GB thread starting a month before kick off.

I was thinking tonight. If the ground crews just wanted to get the (painting invasion stripes) job over and done, Then I should paint them by hand. Well, I didn't paint the white by hand. I sprayed them because whenever I paint white and other light colors, it just doesnt look good at all. But tonight I brushed  the black on I still need to touch up them up a little, but I think they look pretty good. Pics will be coming.

I also found a P-38 on google images, This person has the stripes on the booms too far foreward.

I still have to paint the stripes underneath, but I'm going to let these set for a couple of days.

Good idea with the stripes Ken. You must have a good steady hand to make a reasonable fist of it. I don't think I would dare.

Well. since I have alot put together on it (I didn't think to paint the stripes before I had the propellers and landing gear etc etc) on it. I used the tamiya painting stand like a bridge (I laid my arm on it) and that really helped to keep my hand steady. I'm painting the under side black stripes tonight.

Ken, that sounds like a good idea. Even if they had air brushes to spray them on, chances are they would not have had many so others would have used brushes to get the job done.

Sorry, I didnt get to finishing the stripes last night. I'll try again tonight.

I'm not finished with the stripes, Many problems,  Touch ups come next. I didn't think when building it. I'm glad I don't have much done to the P 47. I broke the props on the 38. I guess I'll have to get new ones. Question, will the propellers from Quickboost fit? They have ones for 1:48 scale for Hasagawa. Can anyone answer this?

I've never done this before. I brushed the black on. It seemes to be okay. Now do I just spray the NMF on and how do I know when to stop?

Ken, 38 is looking nice, I see no reason why the propellers should not work on your kit. I have never done pre shadeingb before, but I think the idea is to do light coats, especially over the panel lines, until they only just show through. But I am sure someone with more experience can give you more help.

Ken: Both of those look pretty darn good to me.

I can't tell if the P-47 is grey paint or bare plastic. You really need a primer coat if you're using Alclad. And it doesn't cover very well so you'll have to use a bunch of coats to cover your pre-shading. You might be better off applying a couple of light coats of grey over the black to tone it down some. If you're doing olive drab over grey you should be ok though.

 Thanks guys, I sprayed the P 47 last night with this Krylon, Every one seemed to like it before when I sprayed it on my other P 38. I haven't been in to look at it yet this morning, but it looked okay when I left it to dry last night.

Gamera, It was bare plastic. I have a tendency to get more paint on things than I need, so I stopped using primer. Things seem to work out okay, So, I'm going with it. I'll use primer on the really off colors of plastic. The Kenworth W900 was red plastic. I knew I had to primer that
