Nice to see the work going on. I'm afraid I'm a day late. Here's my contribution, "Aries" in the box:
and a sprue shot; it'll take me a while to detach and clean up all these parts, but in the meantime, I'll enjoy seeing the progress of everyone else's builds.
The 486th Bomb Group flew three missions on D-Day. "Aries" apparently went on only one of them, and not with her assigned crew at the time, which was commanded by Earl McCabe (the decal sheet in the kit has his name under the pilot's window).
On 6 June, "Aries" was flown by Norman McIntire's crew on the first mission of the day--to Caen. McIntire's crew had flown "Aries" fairly consistently for the first few missions of the 486th, from May, 1944. The 486th also flew to Thury Harcourt and Lisieux on D-Day.
For those interested, A buddy of mine Dad, went ashore on Omaha Beach today in 1944. He almost had his thumb shot off. They wanted to give him a purple heart for that, but he refused it
A.K.A. Ken Making Modeling Great Again
Good choice. It will go nicely with my Pz IV.
Ken, well that deserves an award by itself. One of these days, I might just achieve that.
John, that's some achievement as well, only breaking 4 of those pieces. If anything gives me the sweats, its removing thin parts from sprues.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

BishGreg, not bad for an hours work. What marking's are you putting this in.
Bish: my options seem to be pretty limited.
From my limited research, my options are:
I have all the listed division markings, so I may go with 12.SS-HJ.

John, That would scare the bejeesus out of me. I noticed the pitot tube last night for my "Jug" and how tiny it is. I stayed from it. as for cutting the parts of the sprue. like you do; with my luck, I'd probably catch the corner of that box with hand, and it would go flying end over end. Just thinking it gives me a cold chill up my spine.
Good Luck
Bish - Thanks I actually did it without losing any parts
Still nothing glued yet . Instead I decided to cut the rest of the parts from the sprue frame and clean them up .
Lot's of little pieces and some very fragile thin parts as well ;
I only accidently broke about four pieces removing them from the sprue but I did glue all but one back together . I think I must have spent close to 8 hours over these past two days just cleaning up the parts , nothing is numbered , you just look at the diagram and go hunting for the parts on the sprue frame . When I was cutting parts off , I started at on end and worked my way along , one piece at a time and I actually found it a lot easier this way finding parts to match the sequence diagrams and I grouped parts together in little piles . Definitely will be glueing tomorrow , it's almost 23.00 hours and I'll hit the sack for a fresh start in the morning . Everyone else is making great starts on their builds as well ... John .

Well, I spent yesterday evening brushing up on History, by watching the Movie "The Longest Day". It's fairly accurate in most events and depicted the Invasion of Normandie quite well. So an M-3 "CKAYT" will be quite appropriate and probably a GMC 2 1/2 ton 6X6 as well, for me.

Front page has been updated, please let me know if I have missed anything.
Off to a great start. Ken, the pit is looking good.
Greg, not bad for an hours work. What marking's are you putting this in.
Here are the promised pics of the Jug *** pit. Oops it should say cockpit. I wasn't trying to be obscene; Honest Now its time to switch gears and get the Halftrack out.
Not much to report here. I put the Italeri C-47 and Waco glider parts in to soak tonight, and they are drying. I plan to do both pretty much out of the box (except perhaps a change in the codes on the C-47). Good thing we've got a year to complete these builds.
And I watched the 2nd part of "The Longest Day" tonight (having watched the 1st part last night).
Gary
I started on the cockpit last night. I have most of it painted, now i just have to put it together. Pics of assembled cockpit will be posted tonight; barring any unforseen circumstances that is.
wow everyone has hit the beach running
just a post to show the sprues from my kit and the decals
waiting for a cockpit set to come in before I start any building.
Well, I worked on the Kanonenwagen this morning. This is what I completed in an hour.
the undercarriage
and the interior floor
More to follow after dinner
You can either post it here, but then it might get lost in the thread. Or if you want to put it in a PM, I can then put it in the first post.
hey bish
where do you want to put the JGPZ-IV as we discussed?

John, some build you have on your hands there.
ww2, i'll add your builds to the roster as well.
Nice choice Greg. I was going to build that kit myself, but the markings I have don't fit the time frame. I am a big 251 fan and that's my favourite version, so i'll be looking forward to this.
Hey nice stuff there guys!
I was fooling around after midnight last night so I pulled out the Churchill and looked her over, I did cut off and cement together a few of the suspension parts so I guess I'm officially started! Since I've mostly reached a bottleneck with airbrushing my other stuff I'll probably get some work done on the assembly here and then stall for a while when it comes to painting.

pyrman64Bish: please add me to the roster...I haven't decided what to build, but it"ll most likely be on the Gerry's side of things.
Okay...I've decided, with the assistance of a co-worker, on Tamiya's Sd.kfz.251/9 Ausf.D Kanonenwagen
the contents
the sprues
Nothing glued as yet . I'm still filing and sanding all the sub assembly pieces
By tomorrow morning I should be able to break out the glue . I did notice on the sprue frame about 60 small 1mm diameter pieces which appear to be the handrail posts that fit around some of the structure buildings on the boat ; The pieces just below the crew figures on the sprue frame . I was thinking of using some 1mm evergreen plastic rod instead for a nicer look . The sprue frame is quite thick and the attachment points mould themselves into most of the pieces , so it's time consuming carefully cutting and cleaning up each part but I'm enjoying the build so far . It's 21.10 hours on the first day , I'm happy with my progress so far and I have been reflecting a lot during today on all those Service Personal who landed on the Normandy beaches , especially the first wave of troops . John .

I'll build the panzer IV and the half track for this GB. Tamiya offers another halftrack in 1/48 too so I may get that if I'm interested still at that time.
Thanks Bish, I'll still have the Dirty Dozen halhtrack finish by then. Sooo, I'll look at the halftracks and see what they (Model companies) what they have.
Wooooooooosssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh <---me running to my desk
I think the first Airborne troops landed around midnight UK time, not sure what the time was in Normandy. But as its now 5 to midnight in the UK, I think we are well within the time frame, so knock yourselves out guys, this GB is now officially open.
Gamera, don't worry, I will be lucky to start mine this side of the new year. But its nice to have the builds spread out.
Ken, yes, my plan is for the Halftrack GB to start on March 1st next year. Got a couple of other GB's staring between now and then. I am sure you can find another halftrack by then.
vance, feel free to jump in at any time. It will be nice to have you back here a bit more.
greentracker98 Had a thought today: I you really wanted to make it like the real invasion, make the GB start time H-hour Normandy Time. <----- Me drooling over Tamiya Bubble Top box !!!!!!

I just checked the world clock on google and its 12.25am in Normandy France ,
Technically , I guess I'm a little early getting started but it's all been filing and sanding the flash , lumps and bumps from the pieces so far
Mach 2's instruction suggest using copper wire for all the step/ladder rungs on the structure buildings , unfortunately a good many of the kit supplied ones in plastic are broken in half I'll have to make a jig of some type and bend pieces of wire to size

I'm ready !!!
It's 2:40pm here (US Eastern Time) I guess I'll start the Jug Bubbletop after midnight.
BTW When is the Halftrack GB? If it's next March, MY Dirty Dozen Halftrack will be done loooooooooong before that
That looks awesome John!
Armageddon brand? Don't think I've seen them before.
Afraid I may be a little slow off the mark here Bish, I have a 95% Sherman I want to finish before the 15th. Working on the base now, she served in Burma so I'm trying to figure out how to do jungle foliage....
H-34, saw this kit for $82 plus shipping. It comes with a jeep and is 1:35 scale. Don't have any Sherman's with Normandy markings and it will cost another $56 to get one:(
Will certainly be watching this one, possibly contributing if time allows.
