Nevermind. I figured it out myself.

As far as progress. Carved out the IP and painted raised detail with a white lead pencil and applied a drop of clear to each of the gauge faces. Here goes:

I did something similar with my Wildcat by drybrushing the instruments with white color. The pencil is porbably the easier way of doing it.

I have a 68 Fastback GT with the 390 and 4spd combo also.  I semi restored it and used it as a daily driver for 3 years while I went to school.  Took it off the road because I could not see parking it in Newark NJ while in class to find it gone at the end of the day.  It's been sitting in the garage since next to a 68 Mustang Sprint coupe that I picked up 13 years ago.  That one is progressing to be roadworthy quicker than the FB.

I usually end up spending between 200-300 bucks by the time its all said and done on a kit and it takes me between 6 months to a year to build each one so I'd say its a bit cheaper than the other.

That's a nice looking 5.0!

It's not just on how fast you want to go either.  I just priced a new flywheel, clutch and pressure plate for the 390 and almost thewup.  That was just for parts alone also.

You'll like The eduard kit.  I'm about 98% done with mine.  The only real drawback are the tires, but the Royal class offering takes care of that.

I love the Eduard kit! I built their F6F-3 a while ago (still needs some paint) and yes, the tires are really bad... I don't know where to put that checklicst though, probably above the computer screen...

I did actually have one problem with the kit other than the tires. The engine cowling was a really bad fit. Only the parts for the plane I decided to build though, the optional cowl parts were a good fit...

How about some pictures of your Hellcat you build for this GB?

I have a Tamiya Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat, in the stash. This would be an OOB build only.

Just for your information, Eric: You can enter any group build at any time, as long as you can finish it in time! So yes, you can enter it! I put you on the list!

That wildcat is a lovely little kit. I'm building it myself at the moment (for this GB as well) and it is a blast to build. I posted some pics oon page 16. Please note that the wash wasn't dry when I took the fotos.

Which decals are you going to use?

Bish, that E-2 interior is a can of worms

There was an entire separate set of documents that spelled out the interiors and colors for multi-place aircraft,,,,,,,,,,right down to the color of the seat cushions and even that varied depending on if they were removable floatation devices or not

A very high percentage of Naval modelers use the variations of Dk Gull and Black, with or without some Green or Yellow Zinc Chromate for their S-2, E-2 and S-3 interiors

even the Fujimi and Hasegawa kit instructions differ on what color to paint their model interiors (Fujimi even says to use Tan and Field Grey,,,,,,ack)

I'm sort of torn between VF-41 USS Ranger and VF-22 USS Independence.

I'll build VF-41 for sure! I just love the meatball-roundels on navy aircraft...

Here are some pics of my almost completed Hellcat.  I still have the last fiddly bits still to add: Antennae and nav lights.  I also need to finish off the prop and fuel tank.  I added a strip of plastic to simulate the weld seam on the fuel tank.  The yellow tips on props are to me what road wheels are to armor modelers, I just always seem to put it off until the end.  Once all those are done I'll do some clean up on the finish and call it done.

That's a really sexy looking bird, Stu!

I thought about going with this marking option as well when my royal kit arrives...

Stu...that Hellcat looks awesome! One of these days I'll get back to Pacific stuff more frequently. Aside from this Dauntless I have a slew of Luftwaffe stuff to build...and I mean slew of it!

The month's not even over and DiscoStu's got his Hellcat done already??   I like it!

I've done a bit of clean up work last few nights on the previously assembled wings and weapons, primarily sanding and polishing seams and a little PE workout tonight.

After tonight's effort, here's a pile of ready to go plastic stuff.   There's enough plastic here to make several 1/32 kits...

oooh... shiny PE stuff.

it was kind of slow going placing all those access panels into place- I used a pencil to line up the little ones.  The leading edge dress up is very tasty- it should look great in red.

the edge flaps are big solid pieces with little clean up needed and they both get a bit of flash.

since I was working on wings, I went ahead and added a slime light to the left stab.   I need to find some glow in the dark paint for these....

and finally..  this is why I wet sand and polish every seam I can reach these days.   With just a little effort they just go away entirely.   I hope the main fusleage sections fit together this nicely.

Credit to Trumpeter so far- the molding and fit on the pieces I've used thus far has been fantastic.

I might start detail painting the wheel wells tomorrow ... or I may mow the yard instead.

That's a lot of access panels on the wings! I like wet-sanding as well, but I can't get the seams to go away entirely. Nothing a little bit of microfiller can't fix tough...

I can't build that much for this GB atm because I need to get my Thunderbolt for the Reich Defenders GB finished. And before you ask: Yes, a Thunderbolt. An american fighter for a German Ground Attack GB. I'll paint it up as a captured plane (with a nice yellow underside) and put some bombs on it

Clemens, I know what you mean about the seams- there's still putty involved on this one, but just not there.   Like I said, I hope the rest of it fits together this well.

That P-47 sounds interesting.. I'll have to go see it.

Nice one Rex, thanks. I don't think the Goffy detail set has a paint guide at all, so this will be very handy.
