Thank you for making me feel so much at home. As my first GB, I'll never forget this one.

Lots of good work going on here, guys. I had almost a full week off around Christmas, but unfortunately came down with a nasty virus that's put me on my butt for almost a week....Doesn't look like I'll get to finish this group build.....back to work tomorrow if the antibiotics kick in...Yay!

Best wishes for everyone in the New Year!  Thanks for the inspiration!!

Hope you're all better now Dave.

Here are some progress shots of my 1/72 F6F-5N Eduard Profipack. I rate this as the best and most detailed 1/72 aircraft kit I have ever built. Wowwee !

I'm also going to use aftermarket decals for it. Aviation USK released a set a few years back for an F6F-5N where the white markings have been overpainted with light grey. Since I like to build different schemes so much, it suits me fine.

The cockpit and engine are very well detailed. The only extra work is to fill the slots in the wings for the rocket projectiles, as I'm not using them. (how come the slots are open if I'm not loading rockets, but I always have to drill them out if I want to use rockets ?) To fill the slots, I boxed in the area inside the wing with plastic strip, covered the outside of the holes with Tamiya tape, and poured some resin in. It fills the holes nicely once I peel the tape off. You can see it in the third photo.

I might run a couple of days into the new year, but not much.

Happy New Year everyone. Party starts in two hours here !!!

Cheers

Tony

Hi all, I know I have been very quiet since August.  Sadly I did not get very far with the Devastator, only managing to finish most of the cockpit.  I'll post a few pics here later.

If it is ok with you Schatten, I'd like to continue the build for the 2014 GB.  My goal is to get it finished by April... now let's see if I can.

Regards,

Rob

the Hellcat is ready for primer now. Forgot to take a photo with the current batch, so will post one next time. I've enjoyed adding the night fighter bits to it, makes it look different to all my other F6Fs.

Cheers

Ok, part 2 is up now!

There are some changes regarding the them/rules though. Joe (Mustang) suggested changing the theme to the Pacific carrier operations of WW2. I think it's a great idea because it makes room for more than one nation while not making the GB too "big".

Here's the link: cs.finescale.com/.../157781.aspx

I'm looking forward to seing some of you guys over there!

Here are a couple of crappy Iphone photos showing re-work around the cowl, radome, lower fuselage and rocket location holes on the lower wings. It will be better this time.

Clemens- if you would prefer to do this ion the Pacific Carrier GB then let me know and I'll stop posting here. It's taken longer than I thought.

I'll be checking in too, Stik and Tony. As my first GB, this one will always be a big deal We won't leave you two homeless (and Nathan, should he decide to carry on as well).

She's progressing well, Tony.

Thanks Tony! Nasty cold put me out of action for 20 days, which is weird for someone that doesn't get sick! Just checked out this GB thread, thinking that it was dead....Not so!  I'll be watching you and Stick finish up your projects here. Keep at it, mate!!

Hey guys. I haven't been on here since the weekend after Christmas; I had something big come up and have been away from home for the better part of a month. But things seem back to normal now, and I'd love to finish my Corsair on here if you guys wouldn't mind. I should be getting back to it in the next few days.

Nice to have you back! Is your Corsair a machine used in the PTO? If so, would you mind continuing work in round 2? It's the Pacific Carrier Aviation GB.

Lots of good stuff going on in here.

I've been out of here for a while but I'm back to the Phantom.  Been making a whole lot of bombs also.

On Ed's bench, ???

That's repetitious work on this bombs 68GT, and each has to be individually cleaned up before painting. I'm glad to see your Phantom, I've never gotten around to building one myself. Progress on my Hellcat - here's one with undercoat and pre-shading:

and with Gunze Midnight Blue, and the Tally Ho decals on it. As I mentioned earlier, I wanted something a bit different. This aircraft had the national insignia and unit markings oversparayed with Light Grey. I used FS26440, as it seemed a likely choice given that it was a current USN aircraft colour in that period.

The decals are from Tally Ho and were quite old. I didn't notice until it was on the dark background of the aircraft, but there had been some light ink runs when they printed them, and it was very obvious on the aircraft. I would have cut out each shape if I'd realised earlier, but they were all wet by the time I knew it. I've subsequently touched up around them.

It's an interesting subject to me nonetheless.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
