well hello all. my schedule got a little busy but I got around to opening my for first kit for this GB
its the
stug. 4 by academy my second build will be the marder 2 by dragon. as you can see this one is a basic kit. ill start by cleaning things up and improving the kit parts where I can the plan is to build it strait out the box. im having thoughts about the ruber tracks after market ? I will be putting on the side armor so the sag will be hidden. as fare as paint and decals not sure I do have after market decals. . anyone build it befor or thoughts 0n the build feel free to let me know.
im a old school modler who took a 25 yr break. I have bin building my stash since 2010 I did a couple builds I call my warm ups Tamiya and revel kids that I remember from back then. my first more detaild build is a fw-190d that im doing for the 2013 fw-190 GB build here on the forums..
so that's it and im looking forword to getting into this GB with all of you.

Gamera: Thanks, and I was going to put the figures in but had this strange bit where the dust looked like it rubbed off for some reason so I'll fix it up and post a final picture.
S.S: Thanks as well. I think I'll go for the first picture for the front page. The idea of another one is tempting but I've got to start on my Flakpanzer for my IPMS group build. I might rejoin later in the year though. If I don't have anything else suitable in the stash I'm pretty sure I'll add something to it that would fit the criteria.

Congrats for being the first one to finish BTW
Your Marder is looking damn great, Blitz! Just tell me what Picture you'd like to see on the front page and I'll post it as soon as I get home. How about building another model here?
Hey BW, she looks great! I love the weathering esp the dust and the mud in the running gear.
Did you decide to take the figures out for more work though?

That's all folks! I'm calling this one done and dusted. It was a nice build, and enjoyed the results from my first go at weathering with pastels.
Comments welcome and thanks for looking! Also thanks to everyone else who took part in the build and SS for hosting.
Greg: Looking very nice!
Cliff: Great work on that worn-off look!
Tony: The tracks sure look good!
Blitz: Your Marder looks fantastic! I love the weathering!
Looks great BW!
"There's the finish line!" Yes it's nearly done. I've been dusting up my model with pastels and quite happy with these results. Just need to do some more on the gun, wheels and tracks and I think it's ready.

Looks good Tony! Always good to see armour on it's feet as it were!

Thanks guys! Definitely going to hit it with some mud and dirt, don't think the crew wiped their boots off before climbing into the vehicle.
B-wing: the kit part looks horrible! I have the Tamiya Pz4 OVE part but it sits horizontal instead of vertical.
Gamera: looks good...just give it a heavy wash of OD, that'll kill some of that shine of the bare metal.

Pyrman: Those rounds are just the plastic parts painted in Humbrol gold. What is it you are thinking of doing with the barrel cleaning rod storage racks?
Gamera: Not sure if it's overdone but it looks fine to me. Not even sure how much will be visible once the turret of that M-10 goes on.
Greg: Really nice progress you're making there. At this rate you'll be finished this one at least pretty soon.
BW: The finish looks pretty darn perfect to me. The ammo and tracks turned out great!
Here's a little work I got done over the weekend. I figured the crew's boots would scuff up the tread plating so I painted it metal, applied some hairspray, painted it olive drab and then scrubbed some of the OD off to show the metal underneath. I really removed too much but I like the looks so I think I'll just keep it this way.
SS: thanks for the kind words.
So here's a few more pics from this AM after I put on the reast of the schuerzen mounts and most of the OVE....
The tan parts are from Tamiya's Pz4 OVE sprues and the grey spanners are from Trumpeter. I still need to decide what to do about the barrel cleaning rods storage rack - any suggestions?
Greg: Good looking progress!
Blitz: Excellent work! I love the color modulation and having the shells in those areas that are hard to reach really adds a lot!
Blitz: Thank you , sir. Your Marder looks exceptional....are the rounds brass or did you paint them? Some modelers have had problems with Tamiya's tracks- a friend of mine had several sets fall apart after painting with either acrylics or enamels.
BishNice start Greg, how many builds have you got going at the moment.
Thanks, Bish......uhmmmmm, too many?!

Blitzwing, fantastic work on the Marder III, it really looks great! As a point of interest, I've never had Tamiya vinyl tracks yet that wouldn't accept paint, I have a system down for pinning them to a sheet of card and spraying hem, flipping them over and spraying again -- it's just part of the process and I never give it a second thought. It would come as a great surprise to encounter a set that wouldn't take paint, I think.

Pyrman64: Nice start there. Sometimes you have to get the feeling that the people that design instructions are definitely not modellers, especially when they tell you to put on all the fiddly bits early on in construction.
Another weekend, a bit more work done on the Marder. With only eight of the shell bases included in the kit, I decided to put them in the slots that would be the hardest to reach and hence, the ones most likely to be left over.
It may look a bit odd with the three on the left hand side right at the front, but they happen to be right under the adjustment wheels which when you think about how long those shells are, must have been almost impossible to take out, let along trying to take them out in a hurry in the middle of a fire fight. As you can see I've also put the decals on. I've also painted the tracks. I don't know why I was sceptical when everyone says the new Tamiya vinyl tracks are paintable, because surprise, surprise. They are paintable. I've started on the tools but they're not picture worthy yet, and the wheels are ready so I'm hoping to put the matt coat on next weekend and then trying to do some light weathering with some pastels.

TB/SS: thanks for the kind words.
TB: I've been picking up the Tamiya Pz4 OVE for the past 10+yrs when I see them. They are very hard to find these days, they're even "out of stock" on Big T's website!
So, while watching M*A*S*H, I was able to get the top hull mated to bottom hull without much trouble - I did have to trim the rear fender supports. I also added the gun mount.
I made the mistake of adding the schuertzen mounts (I followed the instructions! ) before the top/bottom hulls were glued - they're fragile (that's Italian....) and I broke one off. Now to make it look like battle damage. Well, time to add the fiddly bits and then it's off to bed....
Looks liek a good start, Greg! I added your Jagdpanzer to the build list.
Pyrman -- should be an excellent build, simple and shouldn't fight you at all. I would recommend Tamiya's Pz. IV on-vehicle equipment set, which is the retooled parts done for their 1990s Pz. IV H I believe -- excellent quality and sold as a separate add-on for other kits. I'll be watching how this one progresses as I have it in my stash to tackle one day.

After I got up, I spent a few hours at my local hobby shop for the weekly "Nerd Night" and put a few more bits & bobs (as a friend says) on the superstructure....
I'd planned on an OOB build, but the tools look hideous, so I'll be replacing them where I can.
Greetings,
I've finally decided on Tamiya's JagdPanzer IV for this build....
I started yesterday morning. I was able to get a bit done on the lower chassis before going to bed...
It's not the size that matters it's how you use them.
I'm looking forward to the pis, Cliff! Regarding those roadwheels: Nothing beats the mighty King Tiger! That beauty has A LOT OF VERY BIG AND MANLY ROADWHEELS!
Blitzwing It has to be the road wheels. As much as I love German armour, the Germans certainly loved their road wheels especially as the war progressed. Four single wheels on each side for the Marder certainly beats the double row of eight on the Stug IV.

But not BIG MANLY ROAD WHEELS like a T-34....
Ok, the M10 is out of the cellophane and I've got the running gear on her (little tiny HVSS road wheels ) and some major work done on the hull and turret. I'll see about getting some photos up this weekend. Since she's open-topped I still have to paint the interior and all that good stuff before I can cement the hull together for good.
