Bish

One other thing you might want to try is blending it all together. You could take a very thin Dark Yellow and lightly spray it all over. But it is easy to go to far with this. It would need to be very thin and only one or two coats. If you think it needs one more pass, don't, just leave it.

Just one option.

Great idea Bish. I will give that a try after I get the touch-ups done.

Doug

i did the same thing on a german 37mm FLAK and KRUPP truck, it's in the DUCK HUNTERS GB. thin paint and low pressure.

Hang in there Doug. It's looking good and with the tips everyone is offering you should be able to fine tune your camo quite nicely.

Nomad, I think the camou scheme came out good, definitely looks Wehrmacht.  As suggested,  just needs some areas tidied up.  I'd use a no.1 size brush, and use a stipple motion to avoid paint build up and it will also help mimic a slighly feathered edge that you already have.  So don't load the brush with paint, keep it light and slowly build up.  You might even want to thin the paint a bit.

Bill's Marder original base colours were pretty dark too, well accept for the dark yellow.  He lightened it to make the other two camou colours pop - this though is artistic license , and not something soldiers in the field were concerned with.

You can find his build log here:

http://www.bpmodels.net/Model/Album/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=168

Of course, if you want to do the same thing, it's still possible.  Lighten up your desert colour by mixing  in white, or buff, or even a very light grey.  Apply it with a brush over the existing desert camou you already have.  Just use the above stippling method I described above.

regards,

Jack

Thanks Jack I will check the link out.

I second Bish's advice.  I did the same thing when I painted the camo on my HMMWV for the "No Arms Allowed" GB and it really did the trick.

Desert yellow. You are right Bill used a oil wash after the khaki was painted.

What are you not happy with?  I don't know anything about armor, but the paintwork looks good.  Maybe some touch-ups here and there.

Just the way the colors are not separating.

The colours look pretty good to me. This is a guess, but Bill may have used khaki prior to doing an oil wash which darkens the final colours. But there is no real right and wrong with German 3 tone armour colours, they did vary a lot.

What colour did you use for the Dark Yellow.

I was looking at the July issue of FSM and on the civer is a Marder II. The paint scheme is what I am trying to do. Bill is using khaki for the green. Would this work on my Tiger? I am just not seeing the color seperation that I think needs to be.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Doug

Okay all,

Here are some photos of the paint job. I am not happy with it because I guess that I just am not used to doing this. Please help me out with suggestions.

Thanks Clemens, I am aware of that conversion kit. But, I'd much rather see a whole new pop dedicated to the Privateer as a whole.

Joe, Cutting Edge did a resin conversion for the Monogram B-24, but it's OOP...

Hoo Daddy, I've got some catching up to do here.

Doug: Your Tiger is looking really good. Sorry to hear about the painting setback but, I know you'll recover quite nicely. As far as your camo colors go I'm certainly not any expert so I'll leave the analysis up to them. I mean, what do I know, I build airplanes.

having said that though.....

Checkmate: I am thrilled that you are getting started on your North Carolina. I've been looking forward to this. You just may jump start my enthusiasm to finally build one of ships. Maybe finish my 1/700 Hasegawa IJN Heavy Cruiser Kinugasa that I partially started a few years ago. Very gorgeous fortresses by the way.

JSmyth: The B-17 is looking fantastic. You've done fine job on the interior. Unfortuntely, I find that I just don't have the inclination to tackle a big four engine job. I don't have the display room either. Unless of course someone molds a 1/48 PB4Y Privateer, then I would be all over that like stank.

It looks like a Fortress, Js!  Nice work!

I feel for you Doug; I hate repainting.  You think you're done, ready to move on, and then. . .!

SchattenSpartan

Checkmate: I completely missed your post, sorry 'bout that. Those turret parts sure are tiny. There's no way in hell I'd tackle something like that!

Which, by the way, is why I haven't finished up the 1/700 Dauntlesses for the Carrier GB, Clemens.  After getting the light gray on the bottom, only then did I notice some nasty remaining mold seems.  Had to scrape them and repaint.
And for 1944, I've been occupied with even smaller pieces on BB-55.  Will take some photos in a day or so, if I can still see through the viewfinder by then.

Doug: I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it works out for you this time. The red brown you mixed looks spot on to me!

JS: It's nice to see her getting built up! She's almost looking like a plane now! Looks like you got that fuselage seam under control! I got one of those venerable Monogram bombers in my stash (a B-24J), but I'm not brave enough to tackle it yet... Just a mere observation: The Neutral Grey on the lower wings looks a tad light to me. Could be my PC screen or the photo though...

Thanks Jsmyth. Yep it's all poster tack. I took it off and the paint looked great to me. Now it's the job of masking the second color. I hope I came close to what the paint job needs to be. This is the forst time of masking a job like this.

More photos to follow.

Thanks, Jsmyth!

That's quite a masking job, Nomad.  Is that all poster tack?
