jibber - that locomotive looks extremely good, and your solution for the coal is a smart touch.  Yes

I've known about the 1/35 kits, but had no idea there was a 72nd scale available in kit form.  Thanks for introducing this one to us.

regards,

Jack

Jack I'm sure Hobby Boss makes a couple other loco's in 1/72 and theres a lot more kits out there, just check around a bit, nice prices too. And thanks for the kind words, it's much appreciated.

HOBBYBOSS makes 3 1/72 locomotives; BR-52, BR-86, C-12 diesel plus K-5 RR gun and DORA. TRUMPETER makes all 4 (but not DORA) in 1/35. looking at the instructions they build identically given the 1/35 have lots more parts.

there were few C-12s made; most were C-14s which have more than a few differences. the C-12 was never deployed outside of germany BUT the germans has a RR gun training center on the baltic and, if you are training gun crews you are likely training RR engineers too.

Thanks Bish. I've seen others and I have to say they looked a little intimidating but thats no longer the case. If you can build a Dragon armor kit, these are no problem and even the instructions are better.

Hello!

Been busy with work so my building is bit slow. I haven´t build figures since -85 or -86 so let´s see what happens.

After more reserch I decided to leave collar as it is. I removed epaulets because from pictures I noticed, that there wasn´t any in that kind of army carricks what they used. Buttons fixed. Also I removed all seams from carrick. Those looked more like ditches. And what was missing was Lotta-uniform. It should be visible under carrick. That I made from Green Stuff.

Bag, rucksack and cap.

Head and palms ready for primer.

As I said earlier I wasn´t happy with coffeepot. I´m going to replace it with bundle. Made from Green Stuff.

To be continue...

26. November 1939.

14.45 Finnish time Finnish border patrol near Russian village Mainila heard series of explosons from other side of the border. Border patrol Martti Mäkelä told, that he heard "four explosions from direction 24-25". "I continued patrolling and didn´t count next explosions".

Same day Soviet Union sent note to Finnish embassy at Moscow, wich said that, seven rounds was shot from Finland at 15.45 (Soviet time) and four Red army soldiers was killed and seven wounded. Soviet Union demanded Finland to withdraw it´s army from border.

Finland replyed, that shelling had taken place in east side of border and Finnish artillery was that far, that they wouldn´t reach Mainila village.

Four days peace remaining.

Afterwards Russia have unoffically rocognized, that they framed whole insident.

Great information about a sadly neglected (at least in the west) aspect of the war.  Thanks for posting it, Trabi!.

30. November 1939

6.50 Finnish time Red Army artillery started bombardment to Finnland at Karelian Isthmus without declaration of war.

7.00 full scale invasion started. On sea, land and air. First air raid warning was given 9.00 in Vyborg. During first day, Soviet Union air force bombed 16 districts including Helsinki twice (capital city).

At land Finnish army have had time to fortify and could resist attack bit better.

104 days of Winter war left.

And I have had some spare time to build the figure. Needs bit dull coat to skin and hair still. Cap needs some details and have to make base for her.

really nice there Trabi. I really like the look of the coat with the highlights. Is that just dry brushing.

Outstanding work, Trabi!  Nicely done and very convincing.  The variations of color, shading and highlighting are first-rate.

Thanks guys, I´m flatteredEmbarrassed

I used only enamels to this. First coat was that medium grey. Then I mixed that color bit darker with Humbroll #25 blue and thinned it a lot and brushed all shadows with that. Also I mixed base color with white and thinned that too and brushed all highlights with that. So basicly I think that technic was some sort of filtering or washing. That was what I did with all colors except skin. To skin I used Humbroll flesh mixed with red and thinned.

Finished the cap and I did base for her.

I think I call this completed. Propably I will tint that rope a bit, I think it´s bit too white.

So may I introduce you Mari. She´s 18 and from Helsinki.  Her training as Lotta Svärd was completed two weeks ago and plight of that she gave her Lotta oath just week ago. Because of prevailing situation she was instantly commanded almost to front line to Carelian Isthmus as a nurse. And now she have just arrived to her post.

As you can notice she is bit unsure where she should go. She have her commandment in her hand. Sadly she lost her mittens at the bus because there was few air raid warnings during the ride. Her personal stuff are in her rucksack. Bag is for papers and maps. That one she got from nice old lady from their neighbor. Her brother is also "somewhere there" (that was the officlal term then) at Carelian Isthmus and she have more warm clothes to him from home in that bundle. Her mother made those wool socks to her just before Mari left from home yesterday.

Hope you enjoy.

That is really superbly done, Trabi; excellent artistry!  It makes me feel the cold just looking at her.  Well done!

Thank you for your participation in the GB.  It was a pleasure to  have you.  The build doesn't end till next December, 2015, so if you feel like making another contribution--come on back.

I will update the front page soon.  Do you have a preference for which picture to use?

Trabi - cool job with the figure. Yes

I like the added text, as it adds another layer to the story.  Those colours really evoke those dreary days of war.

Jack

Thanks guys! It was fun to build and create back story for it.

Checkmate, I think that first pic of those four would be best.

Have to think do I have something else to build, wich suits to this gb.

Glad to have you with us, Mikey.

I'm afraid I had no idea what a TKS is, until I did a google-search and looked it up:  a Polish "tankette."  And it's in 1/35 scale?

I will update the participant list.

Thanks for coming aboard!  Please be sure to post lots of photos of the construction.

Yep. A very small tankette.  Can't say for sure but I'd bet it's about the size of a UE. I won't be starting until February as I have this planned for another build on Armorama as well. Plus I need to get a new barrel as the current kit one is way too short.

CMK

I think I'm going to have to change my entry for this group build. After researching the Indianapolis it is going to be harder for me to build it as pre war than 1945. I think I will build it in the 1945 GB. I will fine something else to build for this one. Sorry about the change.

Thank you

Jamie

No problem, Jaime.  I'll change your entry to "TBD."  I haven't built any ships previous to 1942, so I haven't done much serious research into pre-war paint schemes.

I did do USS New Orleans for last year's Pearl Harbor GB, but by then she was in Measure 11, with 5-N Navy Blue substituting for 5-S Sea Blue--which eventually became Measure 21.

It can be confusing.

Let me know when you decide on something, and I will update the front page.

I finally got the last of the books I needed for my build. I am still trying to work out which gliders in the photo's are which. Its all a bit confusing as the photo's and the maps don't quite match up, but I think I am getting close to working it out.

That's the problem with research, Bish.  It can leave you more confused than when you started out!

I think I'll jump in here as well... I have lots of possibilities in my stash... I'm leaning towards some French armor...
