Ohhhhhhh the 163 and SR-71 sound cool guys!

BTW: I have the F-16 mostly together. The landing gear has so many struts and other parts I went ahead and attached it before painting. So now I've got to figure out some way to mask all of that. Hopefully get some photos up soonish.

Nice work on the Hornet Andy. Be nice to see the decals on and keen to see how you go with the weathering. Still need to add one of these to the collection, maybe next year.

Capn, really like tha look of that. I actual;l;y prefer this scheme to the navy one.

And likethe otehrs, i don't add a gloss coat either. I usually weather first then flat coat.

Capn, looking good for sure. And as others mentioned, just dust it with a flat coat and will be spot on.

Rooster, ooff!! I buy new decals for the older kits just to be safe, but I've always wanted to try to print my own I just don't have the time to add to my list of things to do. You'll get it done and it'll be amazing, we've got a whole year yet.

Well it happened to me again. I went to decal this weekend and they tore apart. This was an old kit I picked up from a swap meet so the decals had some age, they looked ok and I tested one of them before I started the build and it worked fine. So this one is on hold till I can get some aftermarket ones. Is there something I can/should be doing to these old decals before trying them or should I just expect to buy aftermarket?

What you might try is scanning your decals into the computer - if you have another image of the one that tore apart, you could replicate it with photoshop and reprint.  I have an old set of Hasegawa decals that were yellowed, but I used photoshop to remove the yellow and create a sheet of the particular markings I wanted to use.  Also, printed backups on the same sheet, which came in handy a couple times when the first try went wrong.

Capt - I 2nd Gamera that you should be able to just hit it with the flat coat. Nice job btw!

Andy: That paint job looks perfect!

Capt: She's coming along great! I personally don't go with another gloss coat before the matte, others may disagree.

I appreciate all the feedback.  Got the gloss coat (Future) and decals done - found out some of the colors were a bit transparent and blend in with the dark colors, but overall I'm happy with how it turned out considering I printed them myself.  Did a light oil wash (my first one) and now for the flat coat.  Not sure if I need to seal it with another coat of Future or just proceed with the flat...

Decals Done

Also, got the D model wheels and brakes in the mail.  They went together much more easily than I thought they would.

Capn - Nice work so far! Great job with the camo.

Dan - I'm looking forward to that one. I've seen it at Hobby Lobby many times and haven't pulled the trigger.

Update for me. I've go the major paint done on the top and bottom. I won't be adding all the underwing goodies as I hope to have this one displayed at work and I don't want it to look toooo menacing lol. I used light & dark ghost gray from Model Master enamels. The canopy took a little persuading to get into place and as you can see it still isn't perfect...maybe it was more designed to be left open?? Anyway here are the pics...

Comments encouraged, critques neededWink Thanks for looking!

The camo looks great. The colors are rich in tone as if the bird was newly painted. If that's your look then you nailed it. If not, then you can post shade with a slightly lightened tone of the same colors and create some mottled fading. But, I think it looks good.

Camo looks good and the pre-shading looks just right!

What TJ posted should work on getting the photos to show.

Thanks Gamera!

Got it masked and tried to do some preshading.  If I was to do it again, I would try black basing.  The colors did not turn out quite like I wanted, but I used the ones specified for this pattern, so I will press on and see how it ends up. Need to do some touching up now...

I can't see the photos on the page here, but I was able to click them and make them work. Look like an A-7 alright. It also looks like you had quite a bit of body work as well. You are not far from paint and that will be pretty cool.

Thanks for the link to the tutorial.  Here are some progress pics I took last week of my A-7.  The A-7A Navy colors didn't do much for me so I decided to try to convert it to a USAF A-7D.
