That's a lot of firepower, Toshi. Neat idea on the black soot behind the guns.

Those ammo magazines or belts (not sure) are neat looking things. Odd shape to be injection molded.

Yes, it is.  Lots of firepower especially when you add the Hispano 20mm cannons.  This thing was fast and ferocious at the same time!

Yes, the ammo belts is an unusual design.  But I guess it worked.  I'm building the aircraft that was part of operation Jericho.  Thank you Greg for stopping by!

The Mosquito was arguably one of the best planes in WW2 and it nearly didn't get built. It was only because it was made of wood and therefore did not take metal resources and could be built by cabinet makers that allowed the project to continue.
The Mosquito is one of my most favorite and at the same time one of my most forgotten WW2 aircraft.

Time to wrap this one up. I put on alight panel wash with Flory Wash. I first did it with the light grey wash but this was to stark against the hemp. So i removed that and used their sand wash. After leaving to dry for 24 hours i removed the excess and its left a nice subtle wash in the panel lines. After a matt coat, i masked and painted the exhaust ends and added al the final part. The kit didn't include a pitot but i managed to find one in the spares box.

And then to add it to the base. I did have a slight mishap. I secured the kit to the base and after hoding it down for a minute or so i realised i had not painted in the expansion joints between the concrete panels. So i had to paint them with the kit on, around and under it. OOP's.

The 2 pilot figures are from PJ productions and they seem to be just generic pilots. The ground crewman is from Hasegawa's US ground cew set with uniform modified to the RAF's coveralls. Modern ground crew figures are really thin on the ground.

I also added a ladder from Eduard, ground power unit from Flightpath and some wheel chocks.

This aircraft was based at RAF Marham in the North West of Norfolk and is shown as it was in 2006 when the type was retired from the RAF. Of the 37 military airfields which once covered Norfolk, Marham is the only one that is still an active air base, home to the RAF's Tornado GR.4 and soon to be home to the F-35.

And there it is. Another build i am glad to have got around to. I am planning on adding anotehr build to the GB later this year, the Skunkworks Reaper drone, the current mount of 39 Sqn. But until then, i can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

How do I post photos of my builds to this thread?  I cannot post photos; the "Insert image" functon does not work, nor does regular copy-and-paste method. ?????

Thanks, Jack, Gamera, Checkmateking, Bossman, and Toshi. The Airfix Defiant is a really nice kit, all the flaws can be squarely blamed on me...! Again, lessons learned.

Nice looking Canbera Bish. I didn't know it had such a long service life. Like others have said the decals look great on it and your base is superb as usual. I really need to try those Flory washes.

Great looking Tiffy Doug. I see just one problem with it, it's not my build. I can only hope I do half as good a job on the Spit.

It's AK Interactives Worn Efects. I guess I should have named it properly but it is used for paint chipping same as hiirspray.

I agree with your comment in regards to the Mosquito being built by cabinet makers and at the same time becoming one of the most forgotten WWII aircract.

For it's amazing speed and awesome firepower, the twin engine Mosquito is in my favorite top 10 Aircraft!  Thank you for the information and the support!

Bish, that's very cool. I like the tail design, and your base and extra stuff really bring it to life. Wash turned out great. Well-done sir. Bow Down PS, I'm happy to hear your be building another later.

Beav, nice job on your bird. You sure snuck that in fast. :)

Doug, your Typhoon is awesome. And you got me once again.....I looked at the first page to see which manufacturer it is, and almost fell off my chair when I saw it is 1:72. I keep forgetting and you keep surprising me. Beautiful finish and everything else as usual.

BTW, that car door is the coolest thing. Sure glad you built the office with doors and windows open. :)

Wow, you guys are on fire!!!

Steve: The NM on the Zero looks good! Looking forward to seeing those decals on her.

Toshi: Awesome to see what a bite the Mosquito packs! Nice work on the guns.

DasBeav: Thanks, she looks great from that angle too!

Doug: Beautiful work on the Typhoon. Love how she came out. I hope my Tempest comes out half as well.

Bish: Very cool! Not a plane you see everyday and as usual you did a fantastic job on her. BTW: I know ESCI and Italeri (probably the same set in a different box) did a set of NATO ground crew. I'm guessing maybe they were more German looking than RAF? I'm sorry I'm rather hazy about anything military post 1945...

Dasbeav, your Defiant looks great.

Bish, the Canberra is super impressive. I love the details and the colour of it.

Rigidrider, I love that Tiffie. I want to do a fairly similar one in the markings of 451 Sqn, RAAF sometime soon. I mine can measure up.

Here's an update on my Spitfire MK VII. It's fair to say that I don't love the ICM kit, the forward fuselage is a myriad of upper, lower and side panels with no positive fit at all. I ended up gluing on the lower panel and cowel ring before joining the fuselage halves just so that I can get some feel for how it hangs together.

I've made a couple of modifications to the kit too. As the Spitfire VII cockpit was pressurised for high altitude flight, it din't have the conventional cockpit door. Pilots had to climb in over the side. I've filled the door panels. I've also added a bulkhead aft of the cockpit so that the cockpit is 'sealed'. I've just got the fuselage sides together, but this is how it looks just prior to that. The cockpit assembly is subsequently inserted up through the lower wing cavity.

This kit is a lot of work, but it's interesting.

Cheers

Tony

Bish, excellent build of the Canberra.  Yes
The colour is really interesting, in that it is not what you  usually see with modern military - you did say it was sporting this shade even before the Gulf conflict?

----------------------------

Doug, great job on the desertized Tiffy.  Yes
Colour and weathering are done quite tastefully.

Jack
