It's a hoot, Gam.

modelcrazy We have "The Incredable Mr Limpet". She loves that one. I just ordered the "Reluctant Astronaut" from Amazon, we should get it just before Christmas. I'll get the Shakiest gun and Mr Chicken later.

That sounds great, Steve. I think you two will have fun with it.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

modelcrazyOoo, yes it is.
Steve--The Ghost and Mr Chicken is another classic. Knotts is great in both of these movies. If you don't have that one--you might consider it too.
BaksterGood idea for a Christmas gift.
Ooo, yes it is.
modelcrazy I'm embarresed to say I never saw that one. It looks like fun. My wife loves Don Knotts so I may have to find it for her

Steve, if your wife likes Don Knotts--this is a must get. Good idea for a Christmas gift. You can watch it together, it's a classic.
I just re-watched this. What a hoot.
No worries--it's fixed.
Ben: Sounds cool!
Gary: Yuck, hope you're feeling better soon. Hope you're past the point where you can't even lay down and sleep without the stuff draining down your throat and waking you up- that's the part I hate the most.
Ben> Glad to have you back in the rotation! I'll update the front page with your new build. I've always liked the X-15, so it's a favorite!
Meanwhile, I'm still coughing my lungs up. I hope this stuff goes away soon! It's a real downer!
Gary
Coming back because I love this GB thread. I am still working on my STRV 103C MBT for the modern armor GB.
Surprise, I started the 1/72 Monogram X-15 for this GB. It is a rather basic kit but neat, none the less. I plan on building it OOB (no extra junk).
Photos soon I hope....

Ben

GAF, you'll get there.
I work in spurts.
I started some repainting.
Mach71> It looks good! Glad you're making progess (unlike me).
Thanks everyone!
I just found a new photo of the recovery compartment.
Looks like I have some repainting to do.
Mach71: The folded 'chute looks pretty darn good to me.
Hey Mach--it looks good. I like it! It is a nice touch.
Looks really good Mach
That sucks Hypertex!
I hope the cleanup is not to bad, Thats a bunch of work. Good news that none of your stash was ruined.
I was looking at my recovery compartment yesterday, the lack of any parachute detail was bothering me. Scott did such a good job with this kit it seems odd that this area is lacking.
So....I got busy!
I cut a backing plate out of .040 sheet styreen, and made a false parachute and drogue chute out of Apoxie sculpt.
I'm not great at sculpting, I tried to leave the surface looking like packed cloth.
and I made some strap indentations. It looks ok, much better than an empty
compartment.
Hey! Thought I better drop by and let everyone know I'm still here. Not feeling well, but still here. The fever seems to be gone, but the coughing is still there. Maybe I'll be well enough to sit down at the bench soon, but not yet. Hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy!
Hypertex> Wow! Sorry to hear about the flooded basement. Hope you get everything sorted out without too much hassle. Everybody has sort of slowed down for the holidays and real life so don't sweat the small stuff.
Eagle90> Would be glad to have another build from you!
Everyone take care!
Mach71: The escape tower and details look good to me!
Bakster: Looks good!
Hypertex: Ouch, sorry to hear about that. Good to hear that most of your stuff didn't get hit.
Gary: Hope you feel better soon.
I have been extreamly busy with my new job. Lots of overtime due to the new military orders. I sprayed the SV flat white and found I still need a lot of work in the seams. I took a picture but it just looks like a white tube with a seam LOL. Everybody and envision that.
Eagle90The builds going on here are inspiring me to do another real space kit!!
hypertexMy basement (where my work space is) has flooded due to a failed sump pump.
Boy, It's great to see this GB going so strong.
Unfortunately, my progress has slowed the past couple of weeks as holidays approach. But now, I'm not going to be modeling for a while.
My basement (where my work space is) has flooded due to a failed sump pump. The good news is that I didn't lose any kits or tools/supplies. I was smart about things and kept valuable items off the floor. But the carpet is going to have to go, which means I have to clear out the entire basement to replace it. Since my basement was also used for storage, there's a ton of physical work to be done. And with my bad back, it is going to take a while.
So I won't be building anything in the next few weeks, maybe the rest of the year. I am hopeful to use the opportunity to improve my workspace so that when I do come back, I can be tidier and more efficient.
I'll keep following this group build, and I'll let you all know when I get rolling again. Keep up the good work everyone.
The builds going on here are inspiring me to do another real space kit!! Great work everyone!
littletimmy Bakster . As careful as I was--I began cutting through the clear and into the stain. Repair work was needed. Blah! My fingers are crossed. " I " have faith in you. " I " am just stopping in breifly, to say nice job so far. " I " am leaving now .....

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"
I decided to texturize the base to sort of simulate a concrete platform. I started with making a substrate out of styrene and on top of that adding a layer of 400 grit sandpaper. I cut the sandpaper into sections to "sort of" simulate joins that you might find on a concrete slab. I spaced the sections to further accentuate the joins and I used sprue-goo to bond the paper down. That is a lot of "I's." Why stop there. "I" must tell ya... "I" am really loving sprue-goo. From here "I" will paint and add a little weathering. Finally then, the piece can be bonded to the wood base.
Making this seemingly simple piece was time-consuming. The issue at hand was that the pedestal portion of the base is out of round. It took a lot of fitting to make the piece somewhat coherent. It's always something.
The wood base received a third coat of polyurethane. I had some issues with my sanding technique on the first coat. As careful as I was--I began cutting through the clear and into the stain. Repair work was needed. Blah! My fingers are crossed.
mach71love the Redstone Bakster. The stand and rocket are looking very nice.
Thank you, sir. Hey--your project is looking sweet. Adding fiber optics would be cool too! Can't wait to see more of what you are doing...
