I did get to put a gloss coat on today.

Bakster, I used Tamiya TS-13 gloss clear. It works great, levels nice and dries quick.

I got the decals on this morning. The kit has decals for the corvette flags, back and side nameplates, and the 427 hood badges.  The kit has raised details for them molded in also. Using Micro Set and Sol the decals snuged down great.

Then another coat of clear to hold them.

Mach, thanks about the TS13. I am looking into clear options because the  Humbrol clear I tried works Ok for some things, but not all, and it tends to take several coats. I will look into that.

Decals looks good. It is really coming together.

Well, all the decals are on, but I'm not happy with the red/white/blue badge. It's not long enough and the white is really clear so I made a white decal to go under the red/white/blue one. When I try to add an extension it looks bad. I haven't sealed them because I'm going to keep looking.

The rest I'm very happy with. 

The tail lights and front grill are installed.

The tail lights have decals for the chrome rings and backup lights. A nice touch.

I'll probably put some Kristol klear in the front running lights to add some depth.

Mach71> The Corvette is coming along nicely.  Too bad you're not happy with the red, white & blue decals.  Being a scrounger, I could suggest a couple of possible solutions.

Get some Red, White and Blue electical tape.  I've found this down at Walmart in the tape and electrical department.  Cut thin strips using an X-acto knife and then trim to suit.  You can either apply directly to the car body or place on a thin sheet of plastic or cardboard.  No problem with transparency there.

Alternatively is a method put forth by one of the regulars here on FSM.  That is to take your decal paper and spray paint it the color you want.  Let it dry and then coat it.  You can then cut out strips of that to use for the pieces of the decal and apply to the car body or a piece of thin, sheet plastic.  Again, spraying it "white" will negate that transparency issue.

I think I might try painting some white decal stock I have. 

I like the idea of using the colored electrical tape but at this scale the thickness would be way out of scale.

Originally I thought about masking/painting. It's just that if it goes bad now and I have to strip it and repaint it I'll lose all the decals. I'll look around for some really thin plastic sheet as you sugested, that could work nicely.

Hey Mach--I love that tail and the grill. It is very convincing. It looking sweet!

Running with our leaders sugestions I picked up some small white stickers and I'm experimenting with them.

I also got a slide paper cutter to see it I can cut the white decal paper straight enough to make the badges.

Also following our leaders example I dug out this:

I got it from a Gulf gas station way back in 1969.

Mach71>  That's an interesting use of stickers.  I made a control panel for a Stuka by printing an image onto a larger sheet of that, but put it on some plastic sheet for strength.  I don't know how your experiment will work, so it'll be interesting to see how yours turn out.

You bought a paper cutter?  Wow!  I usually just use a metal straight edge and an x-acto knife.  You're getting high tech! 

Oh, and I have the same book, though mine is a little more dog-earred than yours.  Great image of a childhood favorite!

I have other things I can use the papercutter for also. At least I hope so. 

I'm not sure if I'll use the painted stickers, but they were cheap enough.

My preference, at this time, is to use the decals painted with enamel. 

I've had good luck with painted decals for stripes, so I can affirm their workability.  It's good to try out new methods.

I'm doing a little detailing on the Gemini capsule tonight, but need to respray the instrument section.  I'll try to get that done tomorrow.

The body is done. The bumpers and lower body cladding are on as are the front fender inserts .The hood is on. The front parking lights were filled with Kristol Klear to simulate the lens's. I painted the wheel wells flat black.

Next I'll install the wind screens and the cockpit, hopfully that will happen tomorrow.

I'm still working on the forward badges with not much luck.

I even got to start masking my eagle pod.

Yeah I was thinking the tortoise and the hare too- you can make better time on roads but Bakster can go cross-county..

Yup, and I'm thinking if you put the Vette in any kind of dirt/sand/uneven surface it will pretty much stop!

The windshields are in, the cockpit is installed. I'm waiting for the glue to dry before I put the firewall in. 

Work continues on the fender badges. 

When I masked the white decal to paint it the decal pulled off. I was using Tamiya masking tape.

I masked and painted some of the labels. Spray and brush. The results are mixed.

I picked up some .010 sheet plastic, cut off thin strips, masked and painted them.

We shall see.

While I was at my LHS I checked out the aftermarket decals. Nothing I could use.

That's a fine 69 you got there. The fender badges look fine to me. I built the roadster version of this kit many moons ago and don't remember any problems getting the body on to the frame.

Excellent job on the Vostok! The poster behind it is a great backdrop.

The Body went on the frame fine.

But.....

The aftermarket aircleaner doesn't fit!

Which is odd, I measured it against the kit supplied aircleaner and they were very close in size. 

It looks like some surgery will be required.

She looks perfect to me! 

No idea what to do about the air cleaner though.
