I was thinking about a fixed landing gear group build.  I'll propose it after I get in my new house and have my shop set up.  Think Stuka, Nate,  Lysander, .... would include float planes.  If they don't retract they're in the act

Thanks,

John

How many "active" GB's do we have going right now (I count about 14 in the GB section that have been responded to within the last month)? I have Revells newer 190 F-8 in the queue and was thinking of doing another Pride of the Luftwaffe GB like I did a few years ago. I just know it gets tough when there are too many GB's running at one time.

I think about a dozen active GB's is the right amount. I agree it can get awkward when there are to many. Though a couple of those in that 14 list have actualy finished. Quite a few of those current ones will finish by the end of the year. I have 2 new ones planned for next year (8th Air Force and Junkers) and there a few nice ideas here for new ones.

I've  been pitching a Formula 1 group build for next year.  I think a First Responders group build would be cool as well.  I have a police cruiser, fire rig, fire bomber, and CHP helo in the stash.

Thanks,

John

OTS GB, aka 1/72 scale, is always a good one because folks take a break from a big model and knock one out in a week or 2. noy sure if i am up for running it again.

i know i did DUCKHUNTERS GB, aka air defense, many moons ago. given my stash  could do my own GB.

I just checked, could not believe its been 8 years since Eagle and myself ran our Duck Hunters GB. So ye, i reckon we are deffinetly over due one.

I thought of one a couple days ago.

Between the wars. November 1918 to Sep 1939.

Any subject built between these dates.

there is some really crazy Soviet armor (baby tanks to T-28s and T-35s plus some really ugly aircraft

Another thought came up in a GB recently.  An adverseries build.

ie. 109 vs Spit, Mustang vs 190, Zero vs Wildcat, etc.  Even could include bomber vs bomber, like Kate vs Avenger.  Any conflict clear up to present day.  Build both.

MC suggested I might host, but I can't seem to finish the ones I join, so would be a lousy choice to host.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I’d be interested in that would give me a reason to build the Meng Char 2C or an FT-17 from the Polish-Soviet war.

i used to do an OTS GB (One True Scale). they get a lot of interest because they are quick builds (except fo me). when photobucket kinda blew up i lost interest looking for another platform easy to upload pics to and from.

If you allowed for equipment new OR USED between 1918 and 1939 than you can do tanks, armored cars, planes and RR for not only the Russo-Polish War of 1920 but the Russian Civil War. SEP1939 would take you to Nomonhan in Manchuria with Japanese stuff.

just a thought. i happen to be a big Russian Civil War and Russo-Polish War buff. May be teaching a 16 hour zoom class on it later this year

Was a "My First GB" GB ever done? Recall what was the topic of the first GB you have ever participated in and build something accordingly.

Animal names is a coo idea - includes a lot of vehichles.  Would nicknames count - like Warthog, technically Thunderbolt II.

Also I think a SAR group build would be cool.

Thanks,

John

Definitely lofs cars to pick from as well. Mustang, Stingray, Impala. One of my grail kits is a Takom G6 Rhino, a South African artillery vehicle. Very bizarre looking subject.

Thanks Bish for the correction.

I copied all that down off a couple of the websites so there are probably more errors as well.

Yeah, all US Army helicoptors are named for American Indian tribes with the sole exception of the Supercobra. But there is yes a species of salmon called the Chinook so you're both right.

Seems you need to go to the French for choppers named after animals:

Airbus Helicoptors H125 Fennic (species of fox)

AS565 Panther

AS32 Super Puma/Cougar

AS365 Dauphin (Dolphin)

Aerospatiale SA 343 Gazelle

Alouette (Lark)

Plus of course the British Leonardo AW159 Lynx

The AW159 is the Wildcat, replacment for the Lynx.

Plus the Japanese:

Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa (Peregrine Falcon)

Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien (Swallow)

And Italians:

Macchi C.205 Veltro (Greyhound)

Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete (Ram)

Fiat Cr.42 Falco (Falcon)

CANT Z.1007 Alcione (Kingfisher)

CANT Z.501 Gabbiano (Gull)

CANT Z.506 Airone (Heron)

Fiat Br.20 Cicogna (Stork)

Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero (Sparrowhawk)

Savoia-Marchetti SM.81 Pipistrello (Bat)

Somehow the names sound cooler in Italian Stick out tongue

And would you include legendary or mythical animals?

Pontiac Firebird

Ford Thunderbird

Blackburn Roc

A lot of planes named Griffon

And animal nicknames?

A-10 'Warthog'

F-4 Phantom 'Rhino'

FW-190 Wurger 'Butcher Bird'

True, but is also a species of salmon.  Probably also named as such because of being a major food source for the tribe.

In cars there are the Mercury Cougar and Bobcat (a rebadged Pinto), Ford Bronco, Mustang, probably some others.  Lot of helos named for animals too, Puma, Cobra, Chinook......F7F, F8F, F9F, F111.....

The Chinook gets its name from the North American Chinook people. Same goes for other some US helo's, Apache, Sioux etc.

A few more animals for the safari park - Hawker/BAC/BAe Harrier (also the Kestrel), Supermarine Walrus, Supermarine Swift, De havilland Otter, Tiger moth, Gypsy Moth, Sopwith Camel, Sopwith Snipe.  A post-war British super-heavy tank called the Tortoise, another called the Badger (don't know offhand if they actually made it into service), the Scorpion light tank - there's bound to be loads more.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

Sounds like a cool idea. Is there as list of vehicles named after animals? OK, we have the Grummans wildcat, hellcat, tomcat, Cesna bird dog (so is it a bird or a dog Smile), swordfish, baracuda, Me262 swallow, I think there is a salamander too. What else?

Yeah, you could go with 'The Call of the Wild' or something cheezy like that for a title.

Or 'Nine Lives' GB for the cat theme.
