finished the topside paint ading, the weathering on the underside, and the chipping and dust effects on the prop this weekend.

not super crazy for the dark panel lines on the white underbelly, but, its there...

Also got the gear doors painted and installed, and got her up on her legs:

just a few ods and ends left, windscreen and canopy, figure, decal and weather the gear doors, etc, and i will be done with the main build.  i have some Marston Matting on  order for the display base...

Oh yeah John! Cool Viper!!!

Joe: She's 1/48th- I'm not that good at 1/72nd either! The way my vision is going maybe I should be moving up to 1/32nd...

Justin: love the aluminum chips that show through the blue.

Gamera: Your engine is much improved and looks great.

Steve: I bet using those decals where way easier than painting the stripes on.

Mustang: That dash and interior look slick.

Finally got a Saturday off work to make a run to the LHS to pick out a kit to build. Ended up deciding on getting this f16 and will be building it for lewbud. The kit comes with tigermeet markings and I plan on painting tiger stripes instead of going with the two tone grey scheme.

Thanks Perry, Neal, Steve, Cliff, Rob and Joe!! It's alot of work and not too much to show for now but it'll all come together in the end.

Rob: I didn't know about all the "extras" that were involved with auto building till I got into it either. Whole nuther WORLD of modeling.

Cliff: Good improvement on that engine and some really good work in that interior. That 1/72 scale stuff is just out of my league man. Hats off to you guys that can do that kind of work in that scale.

Justin: Terrific work on your Corsair. The paint and weathering techniques turned out wonderfully.

Joe: BANG! You nailed the interior work. Gorgeous work my friend. It truly looks like the real deal.

Cliff: The engine does indeed look much much better. Very nicely done on the OOB cockpit. It certainly looks the part. Well done.

Joe, you have shown me a side to vehicle modeling that I just could not believe existed. Truly awesome. I have an old HiLux ute, (what you folks call a pick up I believe), and I have often thought about building a model of it. Your work is so inspiring I might just have to have a crack at it. Don't know if there is a kit available though.

Looking good Gamera.

I got a little more done on the Corsair. She don't look as good as Justin's but I hope she brings a smile up there to Toshi!

I striped the motorhead part, I wasn't totally happy with how it cleaned up so I just grabbed the part from the other kit- it fit perfectly...

The cockpit doesn't look too accurate but I wanted to build the thing straight from the box so I didn't add anything other than some seatbelts. Still, I'm pretty happy with how she came out:

I really like how your methods turned out Justin. You've got more stones than I do applying decals right over paint but hey.....if it works then I'd call that a success. Lookin' just fabulous so far.

i like to experiment!  What's the worse that could happen?  Strip and repaint?
but, with decals, you don't necessarily need a glossy surface, but you do need a smooth surface...

thank you sir!

finally hadtime to get on here and put my update up for all to enjoy!

I started with spraying some Vallejo Aluminum over the airframe, followed by a couple coats of hairspray for future chipping:

then did a little old fashioned preshading.  I was disappointed with the shade of sea blue from Vallejo, it being way too desaturated and just grey...

so i attempted to boost the saturation by spraying a mix of blue acrylic inks.  btw, you can remove said inks using undiluted Simple Green:

That didn't work, so I mixed up a custom mix of the sea blue that suited it much better:

I applied the decals from Eaglecals in the markings of Captain Dean Hartley Jr. of VMF-225.  Decals were applied right over the paint with no gloss coat.

after each step, the Corsair was put in a repurposed food dehydrator for a week (I only get time to work on the weekends...

I built up the landing gear, adding some extra wiring and then painting and weathering

Did some slight sponge chipping on the prop, and dull coated it.  It awaits some dust and fading effects:

Thanks guys, yes, it's orange. Here the Puma is with the decals on. There's still a few more things that need to be completed to call this thing done. The black on the canopy was added using paint to continue the decals

You gotta be.....what tha???....Holy........I think I'm gonna........

Steve, I don't know what would have made my left eye twitch more, painting those tiger stripes or putting on decals instead. Tongue Tied Well done.

And right on cue Steve, you come out and knock my socks off. You have done a right admirable job with those decals. It is eye popping for sure. Good show!

You people are sure honoring those that have gone before. Great builds.

As to mine, the IP in the Italeri kit is different from the Hase one that the PE is for.  Found a Hase "E" and asked the seller if it had both IP's.  Was told still in bag, but instructions showed unused parts.  Made offer, was accepted, should be here this week.  Maybe can get back to it
