SCI-FI - Star Trek group scratchbuild/kitbash (ends 12/1/04).
Posted by Woody on Saturday, May 8, 2004 3:30 PM
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a Star Trek group scratchbuild after the Starfighter build is done?

The rules as proposed by me would be as follows:

1) Any vessel from a book, film, TV(any show), game, or website source.
2) Any scale.
3) Any material
4)You must provide a picture of the vessel you will be building.
These will be placed in this post to show others what we are doing.
5) Finish date of Dec. 1st

Here are links to the Starship Modeler Forum and Scalehobby's Forum because this build will have members from several forums!

Well I know I'm calling this a scratchbuild but particapation is the important thing. I would like to see 50-60% scratchbuilding or extensive kit bashing. If you are casting your own parts those would all be scratchbuilt parts. I'm kind of hoping some people will take the challenge of scratcbuilding something from books or illustrations like Steven's Star Fleet Battles game inspired Ranger. Please decide what level of scratchbuilding is appropriate for you and sign up. I think we can dazzle the forum with our skills and creativity. If anyone needs help picking a subject or finding an illustration of their subject, feel free to ask me and I'll be happy to help. If you need a host for your pic, I'll also help with that.Wink [;)]

I might suggest that the a lot of the SFB ships have very simple, angular lines. These are fairly easy to scribe and snap all the pieces. I'd be happy to scan and pass on any "plans".

hmmm if anyone scratchbuilds a newer Starfleet Starship and it is a class leader (first ship in the class) its Hull ID# would have to end in 00 you know like the Excellsior Class with the Excellsior being NCC-2000

I don't know about that.. what about the Galaxy: NCC-70637, U.S.S. Akira: NCC-62497, etc, etc.? Excelsior might have just been a fluke! Big Smile [:D]

We just picked up a couple more entries from the Starship Modeler forum. looks like we have about 5 solid entries as of now! This looks like it will be a very interesting build.

I would like to count myself in. I'll have to dig through some magazines to pick something, but have a pretty good idea.

Do you have a pic of a Ranger for the post? I'm going to start posting the project proposal pics.

Cool pic! I've added it to the opening post. What do you think about the project proposal pics? I think they will inspire and add interest earlier in the the project.

Hi Woody,

I guess I will have throw my hat in the ring for this one. This makes my first official FSM Group Build Along. Like I said at SSH site, I haven't decided which ship I am going to model, but I will sort that out and get back to you later today.

Ok, I'll jump in since it's a December 1st deadling and my modelling momentum seems to be picking up. I'm doing an Armarillo class cruiser from the Earth/Romulan war era based on a design I found at the Starfleet Museum site:

Woody,
I'll jump in. I have been contemplating building one of the TNG shuttle pods in 1/32 or 1/48 scale (leaning to 1/32 or larger though). This is my first group build and I hope I'm worthy. I'll post a pic soon.

Here you go Woody, I decided on the Starfleet Fighter. It will most likely be 1:48 to 1:32 scale??? We'll see.

Hi Woody and Group,

I am considering modeling the USS Wasp, NCC 223 from 2174. I found it on the Starfleet Museum site. It looks like an interesting build.

Jay, That is one neat vessel! Let me know if that picture is ok. If it isn't I'll change it or put up one you select.

Anyone have any thoughts on a group build badge?
