LOL. I think "Duckbill" is really "Hattals" and he is in your "in" list.

Seems like a good idea. Put me in the probably list. By the way, what date is +100? Just curious, because I was going to do an M8 for the Small AFV GB (haven't started yet), maybe I could kill two birds with one stone?

Sure you could there will be alot of gliders, c47's, p47's, p51's , me109's and even maybe some fw190's not sure on ships though you can put me in on the( southern redneck voice) " well I'll be" list. probablt either a tiger, panther or I just might even throw in the fw190 if you let the fly boys in.Of coarse I will still do a armor piece cause we all know the darkside is stronger.

Yes because aircraft played a major role during the breakout from normandy, especially in the break out.

ArmorMaster:

FYI, the US Army considers the Normandy Campaign to be 6 June - 24 July, after which it became "Northern France", "Rhineland", and so on ....

hi guys,
i haven't been around for a couple of weeks or so now (new job etc etc), but this does seem mighty close to the D-DAY GROUP BUILD, for which i'm building a typhoon in 1/48.
it seems like this will be diluting the group builds idea to me.
just my thoughts...

Nick, the D-Day GB is for weapons used between 5th and 8th of June 1944. This Normandy GB can takes us up to September 1944 (at least up to 24th of July according to official sources as mentionned above), with scope for much more subjects and themes for individual models or dioramas...

I think the two can co-exist.

June 7 to July 24 sounds great. I'm intruding on the D-day GB by one day, do you think that I should change it to June 9?

ArmorMaster:

Thoughts for your consideration:

I wouldn't worry about conflicting with D-Day Buiuld & set period back to 6 June.

Pls define "ARMOR" (criteria #2) -- anything with treads ? does it have to be a tank or half-track ? Does it even have to have a weapon ? I tend to treat "armor" as a general term for "ground vehicles" which could include trucks, recovery vehicles, etc.

End Date: How about mid-September (or later), that gives folks 3 months -- it is summer (in the northern hemisphere) after all.

Given the "groundy" emphasis, at least at start, I'd think the Figure/Diorama folks could be included.

Thanks for telling me jratz. Yep, I consider jeeps, trucks and anti tank guns to be armor too. Anything that rolls is game. I put the idea in the AC forum, but no one has done anything. I'll try dio's and figures too. Thanks!

ArmorMaster:

Since this appears to be "groundy", then I think you could set unit limits as follows:
-- Allied: Landed in Normandy between dates given, whether in combat or not.
-- Axis: Using Allied forward lines on any particular date, any Axis unit in lines facing the Allied units, or behind Axis lines but in direct or general support of front-line units.

I would limit air & naval to direct/general support within the sea lanes from the UK to the beaches and in the airspace over sea lanes & beaches and the air over the land areas as defined above for ground units. This may be too limiting for things like rear-area interdiction by air units & exceptions might have to be made if builder can provide documentation/rationale, but should exclude something like a B-17 on its way to Berlin.

Right now, I'm a tentative but haven't quite decided what to do -- it will be something US or UK either on the beach or in the hedgerows ....

THE RULES:
Anything Axis or Allies that played any role in the Normandy campaign. This means a model/ship/ac/figure/tank/armor or anything inland/on the beach/in the air in fortress Europe. I'm not dealing with specifics, like jratz mentioned-but thanks for the suggestion. If you are really wondering if your subject might not be considered official, just ask and I wil tell you.

Oh, and one person in the D-day GB wanted to do a German captured t-34 that was made as an ammo carrier or something and was transferred into France during the invasion. Oddball things like that are greatly accepted. It would be cool to see the usual things that fought, along with the unkown.

If aircraft are included Ill try to scrunge up something, Im in the d-day build but easily can build 2 or 3 models in 2 or 3 mos. As far as the badge I would suggest something simple and something that reflects what was lost in the campiagn and shows respect why not use the cross grave markers?

Yep siree AC are in, along with Figures, Vinigates, Dios, and ships. I've posted this GB in the AC, ship, figure, and dios, but nobody likes the idea except us in the darkside. So AC is allowed, but looks like your the only one doing one. Good luck all.

Although not cute, sexy, ferocious, etc, the "Hedgerow" defined the Normandy campaign, not just for the direct effect on the ground war, but the indirect effect on the air/sea missions/support of the ground war.
So maybe a GB Badge based on a thick bush ??

I just might, but the only problem is the official Normandy campagn dates were from June 6 through July 24. Fighting in the Falaise Gap and Operation Cobra was on July 24, but it continued even to July 30. Thats 6 days over the official dates. But I can't exclude it because fighting did occur on July 24. Allright, everybody tell me what you think about it, but I'll include it in. Your in Ddayomaha. But please everyone, tell me what you think of me including this. Thanks.

sorry guys, too lazy to read the other posts. When is the start and end date to this build?
I've been torn between this and the D-Day build, but I don't want to buy another kit (too many unbuilt ones lying around), and I'd like to finaly model a Panther. Correct me if I'm wrong please, but didn't the 12th SS panzer division have Panther's in Normandy?
I was watching a special last night on the History Channel, and they had a whole bunch of stuff on D-Day and Normandy.

Start June 6th End September 11

You can model anything that was used from June 6th- July 30th 1944.

Not required, but it would be great as always. You can participate without photos, but tell us what your building and try to get a finished pic if you can. If there's no way to do it than thats fine, but if it is possible then post them. So are you in zokissima?

Ok, I'm in for sure....but I can't start right away. What I'm thinking of doing is a downed P-47, with a German half track with guys jumping out going to investigate and a Wirblewind driving down a road on the other side of the hedgerow. By the way, it's all in 1/72 scale!

I am well into the Academy Duckbill and I gotta say I love this kit. I have the lower hull interior together and painted. I used the Ammo tubes from the AFV Club kit as the have a better texture. I also have the suspension together. There was little flashing and injection marks were very easy to remove. I am really starting to like these Academy Kits. The funny thing is, if I hadn't been stationed in Korea, I would have probably never tried any of thier kits Big Smile [:D]

I have started my build of the Academy mid Tiger with interior. I have looked for references all over to achieve an accurate build, but there is that much conflicting information that I will do it my way.
Anyway, here are a few pics of my progress to date

I am also applying milliput zimmerit and have completed the front and back of the hull but not took photos yet.
BTY, I prefered the old way that group builds were posted, don`t like jumping between forums.
As always, comments and advice welcome

You were asking about a badge design earlier and I thought well were modeling both sides of the normandie battlefield why not a badge that would cover both groups, you know like it being a map of Normandie in the time period we are modeling (in badge size of course)

cplchilly: I will make a temporary bagde that will be issued to each member of the GB. This badge will only signify that one is involved in the GB, however this temporary bagde does not mean you completed your build. I will replace this temporary bagde with a completion bagde when you show pics of your model. When Sept 11 hits and you didn't complete your build, you must take this temporary bagde out of your sig. Does this sound like a good idea? I don't know, I need some imput, but I will be making a temporary bagde...

Allright, maffen, your in, so pic up your bagde. Anybody have any input? I'll let people join until June 30, then once the clock strikes june 30 you can't come in. This only happens once in a lifetime (60th anniversary) so I'll be forgiving for being a little late... Why June 30? Because if it's any longer you won't have any time to build. So everybody, pic up the bagde. Any input on it?

Did a bit more tonight, i am trying to make the whole top section removable in one piece, without showing the join, lots of fileing, filling, superglue and a milliput joint that I hope will hold. I think that iI will need some styrene or metal brackets to keep it in place.
If it works I will post pics, until then I need to know the correct Humbrol enamel colour for the German "dunkelgelb" It is either 93 or 94.
It`s getting late now, quite drunk, as my home team won tonight and I have had a few cans in my shed / workshop.
See you all tomorrow

Howdy hattals,

Your M10 is looking superb! Ya know, it's funny. I just came from another site where I was discussing the M10. :-) The 'jest' of the discussion was about it wearing wading trunks, and more precisely, whether it had an intake trunk or not........any input on that one?
I've only got two pics that show an M10 with trunks, and neither one has an intake.....

Yeah, go to edit profile at the top right in red. It'll ask for your password, type it in. You'll have to scroll down about mid page and you'll find a little box that says signature. This is where you type in everything you want people to see. For me, it's todays tiger image of the day and this weeks iraqi freedom image. I also have some other stuff, but thats where I type in everything that goes in my sig. So you have to get the address that had the bagde:
http://rongeorge.com/albums/upload/temporary_bagdetemplete65ed2.sized.jpg
and put it in what we call "tags".
COMPLEX: Tags are little codes that the forum website will pick up and turn into what you want it to be; something else.
ENGLISH: You type in something in these [ ] and it tells the website you want something.

So what you do is go like this:
[ img ]http://rongeorge.com/albums/upload/temporary_bagdetemplete65ed2.sized.jpg[ /img ]
img stands for image. leave no spaces when typing this whole sentence. I have to make the spaces, otherwise the website will think I want to display the picture. Now this is whats above with no spaces:

It's ok if you didn't get it, but any questions?

All of these pictures are the base of my dio. It's the road that leads up to villers-bocage right before whittmans going to attack.

heres the sign 1 kilometer to the village

Closeup of the groundwork Static grass, then the infamous clumping lichen...

I know the pic quality and tiger is cheasy, but this is a mock up of where the completed late production will be.

QUOTE: So armormaster is that the actual Whittmann figure?

Yep, it sure is. I picked up the DML "tiger aces" figure set and it includes a whittman figure. He's all painted and ready to go. Thanks for the commpliments! I don't know what the can do stuff is in the corner, but this is the box art. The figure in all black is whittman...

Oh yeah, my whittman figure doesn't match DML's mold, so I had to subsitute a tamiya arm for his right arm. Both arms are around the commanders cupola, but the DML mold has him holding his headphones with his arm down, so a little modification was all it took to get it right...

Kit number 6028 it was the 50th anniversary of the normandy campagn (at least it has a little ribbon saying 50th anniversary on it) so maybe I shouldn't have opened it, it's a ten year old kit...

Some progress on the Academy M10...

The exterior is coming along nicely. I am almost done the turret, just ned to ad some bolt heads and other minor details. I wanted to try adding a tarp. Please tell me what you think, I am not sure I like the texture of the tarp, a little to grainy? Any way...

It (tarp) need to be trimed around the edges and I will add some tie down ropes also.

as you can see I still need to add the bolt heads, and I just noticed I missed a little clean up around the the tiedown point. Any way more to come...

Is that guaze or something like that? It might be a little too grainy like you said, but I'd say tissue paper otta do the trick. M10's looking nice though! BTW that tiger thats sitting in my dio isn't the late tiger I'm doing. The turret is an academy early and the hull is tamiya late. I have several tiger kits that I built, but junked, so their just mock ups for dios now.

I like the way way that Italeri went with the indy links they are a lot easier to do as the bottom and top runs are 1 peice. I will try to post pics this weekend I might just pull out one of my SLR dinosaurs and do it that way cause I can get it put on cd by Kmart.

I am also working on a crew to go with this, I picked up a set from the bargain bin at my LHS, it`s from the Ukraine and had a few bits missing, but I figured that if I mess up the Tiger, then this crew would be ideal. Here is a progress pic on the figures.

The ugly guy on the right is the one supplied with the Academy kit.

Back from vacation and making progress! Here are some up dates on the M-10

I finished the basecoat and have started to add the "extras"

Finally happy the the look of the tarp, just need to weather it a little

Added a Camo Net on the barrel (insipred by Shermanfreak!) Those gaps will go away, I will secure the upper and lower hull after I attach the treads.

Fixed the tool outlines on the back, still need to add the bolt heads back on.

I truely love this kit, and look forward the starting the Jackson next!

Well theres the rest of the pics sorry about the quality first day with the new camera (thats my story and Im sticking to it). This is the Italeri late Tiger in 1/35 scale. I actually shot the base coat with a can of testors Afrika Mustard as I liked the color but noone had it in a jar the rest was airbrushed sealed with future. It was then given a wash of burnt sienna then when it was dry (3 days) drybrushed. I am working on a figure for it and I just have to finish the head.

Hi all.
I'm going to apologise for being too lazy to read all the previous posts, but can someone fill me in on the rules of this GB. I have an ICM kit, one of the bundles they have, and it so just happens to be Normandy. There are a couple of figures, and more importantly, a Luchs, which is something I've been looking to build, so I just wanted to know whether or not that would qualify.
THanks!

MAffen,
That diorama is just stupendious. The proverbial hot tub. I think you would do great with oddball sitting atop his newly acuired tiger and his driver complaining about the machine.

Hey everyone, just checking in seeing how everyone's doing. I got the completion bagde if you want it. If you have any suggestions or had a different idea then just tell me and I can change it to something else. But for now you get this bagde if you completed the GB. I know some of you have finished, so some final pics of the finished thing would be nice to to make sure. But if you finished, take this bagde for now and worry about the finished pics later. If you don't like it (it's pretty much the same) then tell me and I'll make something new. But untill then this is the official Normandy GB finished bagde!

A bit more progress on my Tiger 1. I need to tone down the "future" finish with more washes, blacken around the exhausts and barrel, may add a bit of mud, then I will call it quits.
This post seems quiet, maybe some double posting in the armor forum will raise interest.

Advice and comments welcome

That tiger looks great! Yeah, a few more washes to bring out the zim and stuff will be just the trick. Hey, as long as I'm there, what did you use for the zim? Is it a custom job or what?

My status: well, the half track and wirblewind are almost done, but i still need to paint them. The P-47 has no new work done, except for some sanding for the battle damage. Hope everyone's build is going well.
