Mike Nice build mate!!!

Well, time to suck the big one and admit I wont have the decals on the Bell by the time this GB winds upGrumpy [|(].

But hey, I've left 2 shiny spots on the sides so that when I get them I'll just slap em on and alls well.Big Smile [:D]

ATM I'm finishing running control lines and a little more piping as needed, then the skids, and I think thats the lot...................

Tom i'm pretty sure that Mike's Boomer is 1/72.......

Sean Sounds like your about to cross the finish line, that must be a releifThumbs Up [tup]
BTW Don't worry about the decals, we all know how hard they can be to source on a fringe build........

Finaly I have some advancement in my Mosquito build! I have applied all the decals but the serial number and have attached the majority of the smaller parts. The only big drama is that i'm waiting for the Paragon Canopy to put on then I can seal it all up and weather it.

Hi all

Some pics of my completed CA-13 Boomerang, which to date is Australia's only locally built fighter.

Out of necessity, Australia needed fighters to defend against the Japanese tide sweeping in from the north during WW2. Within months the Boomerang was designed taking parts from the Wirraway trainer. As a fighter it was substandard and was relegated to the ground support role after supplies of Spitfire's and P-40's were delivered. In this new role, the Boomerang exceled.

The Airfix 1:72 Boomerang has been around since Noah was a lad (well, 40ish years anyway) and as such is festooned with raised detail (rivets) and no cockpit details. Still it is currently the only game in town if you want to build a 1:72 Boomerang!

I need a new tube of putty now!

So here it is after an interesting, somewhat tortured build. I used Pollyscale Foliage Green and Esci decals (these were 30 years old as well - what a combination!). Weathering was done using lightened shades of the FG, a sludge wash and with chalks.

Hope you like it!

cheers

Mike

Hi fellows, I see most models are progressing well or have been completed, unfortunately I will have to withdraw from the group build, but will still continue to play an admin role until it is complete. The reason for this part of why I haven't been around lately, have said more on this in the Aussie Modeller Thread.

DECALS!!!!

Finally managed to find a set of RAN Roo decals from Aussie Decals!!
Will they be here in time for me to finish, I don't know, but at least I have them, or 3 sheets of them to be precise, seeing as how Aussie Decals is no more as of the 30th June, I bought ALL the stock Southeast Hobbies had of these.

Should see me through for a while.

Sean I tell you it's a damn shame that Aussie Decals is closing down, I think that only leaves Red Roo as a source for some of the rarer local aircraft markings. Do you know why they are closing or if anybody else is going to be picking up the operation?

:::Progress Update:::
More painting done last night, so that now all I have to do to finish is:
- Repair the Sky fuselage band (I think it's a bit wonky)
- Spray on the Medium Green part of the camo
- Post Shade the panel lines
- Post Shade the upper camo
- Blend the camo colors
- Future the model
- Apply decals
- Wash
- Flat coat
- Final assembly
All by the end of the month Smile [:)] piece of cake

Cheers

Yeah, it's a shame they are closing.

Reason is due to health issues, which is sad in itself.

Mind you, I really don't see much more coming out of other vendors in regards to Aussie aircraft etc.
Might have to take the custom route, and print our own.

There are still a few people out there making decals for Aussie aircraft. There's Hawkeye decals, red roo and gecko graphics. They all have a pretty good range. I'd recommend Hawkeye, partly because I sort of know the guy who runs it, and he's a good bloke. Got a pretty good range too I think.

I finally got sick & tired of waiting for ACM to send me the missing instrument panel for the Mitchell & ordered a Verlinden cockpit detail kit. Won't be able to use most of it now but I'll probably do another sometime in the future. Don't like my chances of making the deadline though.

Gents, this has been a bloody beaut GB and has encouraged me to build Aussie. What is on the horizon for another Aussie GB or the proposed ANZAC GB?

Jules I sent that stuff today, so should be at your place hopefully Wednesday next week.

I was hoping to send it earlier so you could do your Spit with the Omni, but work has been flat out.

For those who are into wingy things, this months "ModelArt Australia" has an article on RAAF Foliage green and Colour Schemes for WW2 aircraft. Have also posted this info in the Aussie Modellers Thread.

You can also buy the booklet from Red Roo (Gary Byk is the author in both cases), much the same duscussion. Booklet is called "Understanding RAAF Aircraft Colours" which has some 'real point' chips included, although not scaled.

Well I thought I had better post a couple of progress shots before this build actually finishes, so here are a couple of shots of the Buffalo

[:0] OMG the kit has been attacked by grey worm things

That's better, now it's actually starting to resemble something.

The colors specified in the Aussie Decals are RAF Dark Earth and Medium Green over 50/50 Black & Light Grey. But I must admit the green does look a little odd to me, Oh well too late now. Overall it still needs a fair amount of work, but things are stating to come together at last.

Well, I got my decals today Big Smile [:D], and they look fantastic!Approve [^]

Been so busy this weekend, moving stuff for family, and only just managed to get my models to the show for entry by the skin of my teeth!

Also managed to mount the fuel tanks on the Bell, but need to ad-lib some support, just to be safe.
After that has cured, I'll finish the fuel lines and remove the masking, then place the decals and brush on the flat coat, and she'll be as finished as I can be driven to do.

There are still a couple of things I forgot to add, and it's to late now, but if I keep going with this, not only will I not finish in time, I'll most likely bin it.
After 3 months, I've had a gutful and need something fresh to build.

I have no idea how these scratchbuild guys spend so much time doing what they do, cause I sure don't have the drive they've got!

Well I made some good progress on the weekend, I managed to post-shade all the panel lines (followed by a repainting of the port wing due to a little accident Big Smile [:D]). Then I post- shaded the medium green by adding 30% yellow to the green to lighten it up. I sort of ran out of energy last night, so tonight I'll post-shade the dark earth tonight then blend the colors together with a (very) thin base color overspray. I probably won't make the date, but I'll get close.

Sean, it's good to hear the Bell is coming together Thumbs Up [tup]. BTW, what competition were you entering your models in?

Cheers
