Nice job on the badge, Tom! I still haven't decided what to build yet! I want to do something colorful but not too advanced - my airbrush skills are pretty basic! LOL I guess we have some time to think about stuff like that. - Calvin

I played a little today, so far all I have is very simple but here is one version I kinda liked the basic format of... still working on it.. I can't find my Photoshop CD since I just reformatted my machine, so I did it in a cheap program, would do the real one in Photoshop so everything is crisper...

it's a start...

Dear tho9900:

I am thinking about the group badge, and what about a South America profile (Including Central America and Mexico) like a map, wich include letters of the subject, and maybe profiles from most famous aircrafts today: Mexico's F-5E, Venezuela's F-16, Peru's MiG-29, Ecuadorian's Mirage F-1 and so on. About the start date, I am OK, but if some one have suggestions, come on.

I read the Escuadron 201 article and was very nice, let me find pictures of those P-47 wich include Mexican and USA insignias.

Please tell your father thanks to join us¡¡¡¡

Best regards

Manuel

Ok, how about a start date of Apr 22, 2005? (It's my birthday, no other reason hahaha) Or we could pick 5 Mayo if you think that would be more appropriate!

Tell me what you think, I will go and advertise this in the aircraft section. And try to find the latin american users I know who are here and let them know about it... this will be fun! And definitely something different!

---edit---

I just looked at your profile... I see you are from San Luis Potosi... I know a girl here in Houston from there... she is very nice! The only placed I have been in the interior are San Jose los Cabos en Los Cabos, and in the D.F. I think I enjoyed San jose more... much more friendly!!! But the museo en ciudad de México was wondeful!!!! I loved the history.. we also went to las piramidas Teotihuacán and it was GREAT!!! a truly advanced society! I noticed recently they found some more discoveries there, it will be on television soon and I will watch for it!

ok Manuel, since we have no takers I will attempt to do a group badge (it may or may not work!)

Any ideas on what it should be? I thought about using flags of different countries, but that would not look good so small... and an Aztec figure would not work as most of S.A. would be more familiar with an Inca motif... just trying to find something common to most of the countries... any help you have would be appreciated!

I am also thinking of doing a P-47 with markings of FAEM esquadron 201 if I can find them or make them.... we in Texas are very aware of them... (being so close to Mexico) ... there was a very big article in the newspaper here in Houston a few years ago about this unit....

here is a short article on them:

Well unless something else catches my eye, I plan on building a Colombian T-33 and possibly a Colombian or Venezuealan AT-6. I talked to my father tonight and he IS interested in maybe joining this group build. I am sending the link to this page to him, so hopefully we will have another member soon! It has been a long time since he has modeled, but he used to build models for me when I was young and he did as good of a job on the models with the limited kits and supplies in the 1960's as the builds you see here now!!! He was very patient with his building I must say!

Manuel,

The trouble I am having is finding decals for Latin American aircraft... I might just do an A-37 Dragon Hawk as they have several latin american countries in decals for this. Colombia, Venezuela etc... Other than that it is mostly modern aircraft, which I do occasionally but not much..

I will keep looking, the only decal company out there that seems to deal heavlily in this is Decals Carpena from Canada I believe. their website is: http://www.decalco.com/

Dear Tho9900:

Your uncle story sound very interesting, in fact, my father flew too in the A-24B during late 40's-early 50's, so you are right, we have something in common...another Latinamerican A-24B used was Chile, but by now I dont have the scheme at hand, but let me search some for you.

Best regards.

An interesting story Manuel! I knew the Mexican Air Force flew in WWII, but it is very interesting getting more history of this!

An interesting note, my uncle flew in the SBD-3 and maybe the SBD-4 in WWII as a radioman/tailgunner. He ended up in Harlingen, TX teaching aerial gunnery to the SBD and A-24 pilots for most of the war. He got orders to a carrier in the Pacific and as his ship was nearing Hawaii the war ended... We have something in common!

I am looking forward to this GB now... I'll tell my father about it, he is very interested in Latin American history. (he is a translator, Spanish to English for the oil company he works for) Maybe I can get him to building models again as well!

Dear Tho9900:

The A-24 picture from my profile comes from an article about how I made my own Mexican A-24, this article is at:

http://www.laahs.com/art21b.htm

and is a part from other brief article about the history of the A-24 at the Mexican Air Force; this article is at:

http://www.laahs.com/art21.htm

Please read other well Latin American airplanes articles, I hope you enjoyed.

Best regards

sure I am in! If I can find the decals, I have a T-6 SNJ just begging to be done in the Colombian AF colors! Spring of 2005 or even closer to summer would be good... a lot of people are finishing up other Group Builds right now so won't be free until then... do you want just aircraft, or all builds, armor, cars etc? people could build what they want... A Land Rover done in the Andean taxi style would look great too!!!

I am not good at group badges but I can play with this a little and see what I can come up with! Unless there is someone else with some experience here?

I look forward to it! In the meantime we can all talk about what we are going to build and maybe build a few models for fun to show our models to each other!

Sounds good, but at this moment, I can not contemplate yet another GB..! Late 2005 would be fine though.

I got nearly all the Aztec decals for Peru's AF! In fact, I just posted in the Attack Helo GB that I was thinking of joining with a 1/72 Peruvian Mi-24! ( My girlfriend is from Peru.)

not a group here that I know of, but there are a lot of latin americans here, I am sure they will find this topic.

It would make an interesting group build idea though. It is where a group of people get togehter and build something of the same subject. Like Latin American models. If you would like to start one I would be there! I would build a Colombian AT-6 SNJ trainer!!!!

My wife is Colombian Wink [;)]

try posting this in the General Discussion topic. under a title like "Latin American Modelers"
