Jules - is this the scheme you were talking about?



I found this on j-aircraft.com and they listed this as a pre-war aircraft... would like to see any data you have though... it IS an interesting scheme! Who knows maybe we could do a pre war GB one day for both the US, UK, Russia and Japan and Germany.

ok I just realized I made stupid mistake #39....

I sprayed the fuselage of my A6M2, didn't spray the gear doors, didn't spray the cockpit frame etc...

it was a custom mix that I probably can't duplicate.. thats ok, more research on j-aircraft.com today shows the color of the zero to have a bit more green to it so I can mist the fuselage along with painting the other parts this weekend...

Boy don't you hate it when you do that. It's got to be one of my most common and annoying mistakes. Good luck with your misting Tom.

Darren - you bet I hate it!!! and I was so careful to mix it in a resealable jar etc... and make enough for all eventualities.. but when I was done spraying I dumped out the extra and went and cleaned out the bottle... ::sigh::

Oh well, no loss as I plan on a light overcoat anyway... but the old one would have been ok with me otherwise. I'm not THAT much of a rivet couter...

Yeah fellas i learned early that when you make a custom mix to save the leftovers just in case, my custom RLM 79 mix for the 109G2 i made up in the original bottle of Gunze and i still have enough left for probably 2 more models, but i can't see myself making another 2 more desert 109's..........

How she bends PE with those musk ox sized hands of hers is beyond me... especially because she doesn't even use tweezers!

Whatever the true scheme is i think i'm gonna exersise some "Artistic Licence" and paint it like that, i reckon that it does a lot to break the monotone appearance of all over IJN grey...
BTW I'm seriously hating masking this Zero canopy, seem to be having a little trouble holding the knife steady against the canopy framing, Hmmmm a thought "send canopy to Tom it should get there be masked and get back in a few weeks, just in time to paint the uppersurface colour just kidding it's half done but i'm only doing a little at a time.........

Jules - actually I was thinking something like that yesterday.... remember my "Around the world GB" thing I thought of way back then? well I expounded and expanded on the idea... each of us has a strength or something we really like to do...

lik send it to someone good with interiors for the cockpit, that person sends it to someone good at sanding and filling, then it goes on and on and on... I mask the cockpit and send it on to the paint person (Tweets?) etc... see ho wmany continents it can hop. Maybe we could get in Guiness book of world records??? Don't know if they have a "how many people to build one model" or "how far one model travelled in it's contruction"

regardless it might be fun.,.. even as an unofficial GB!

the REAL fun part would be to see how many pieces it arrived to the last person in...

I'll have a go at that Tom. Sounds like it would be a bit of fun. I'll take the cockpit mate, that's my favourite part of a build. We'll get the cheapest half decent kit we can find and start working. Sign me up mate.

Hey i reckon that idea would be cool Tom I have the Hobbycraft Me 109 which is boxed as an IDea Kit but the molds are the same, it's half decent and only cost $10:00, I'll paint all the wheels and do the prop then send it to Pingy for the c/pit construction ......
So we need someone to put it together and maybe 2 others to do the painting then someone to do decals someone to do a wash and weathering and then someone to giveit it's last coat of flat.....you could break it down even more depending on how many people we get.............

How about we keep it to 7 stages. Cockpit, assembly, filling & sanding, painting, decalling, finishing and final consruction. That'll take 7 people to do, Tom, Jules and me are in already, so four more people are needed. Tweets and Darren and two others, so we can keep it within the happy acres crew would be good.

souds good Daniel i'd like to see if karl...aka KG200 would be in cause then it will go to the UK as well as the States and Australia.............

That would be cool Jules. And how about we get everyone from the build to put something in the box that symbolises where they live. That way we can show exactly where it has been. Only problem is, who gets to keep the thing when it's done? I'm sure everyone would like it in their collection.

hmmm... it would be interesting to get it to Africa and Asia as well... And I kow I have seen someone on here from South America as well... maybe we could work on doing one next yr and have a whole yr to find someone from every continent except the antarctic and arctic... too bad Reggiethedorf isn't on here anymore... he was in Singapore.

Daniel - if we did one once a yr or so wthe the same 7 people the last person each time could keep it. For myself I wouldn't have a prob letting someone else have it.. each of us would take pics and we'd have a worldwide photo album.

tom i wouldn't have a problem with someone else having it either, were gonna have to count the Miles / Kilometers this thing travels, it's probably going to go across the Atlantic and the Pacific..........

Hey that sounds like a great idea, I would be open to joining in if you don't mind having it make a stop in Canada, not exaactly the artic but close enough (haha). I would be willing to do the decaling.

I should have given an update on my build earlier. The TBF has been futured and is awaiting decals to be delivered and landing gear to be installed. The Academy 1/72 kit is labelled as a TBF-1 but has some inaccuracies. However, I'm not a rivet counter and I'm pretty happy with the end result. Photos coming soon.

Dave - actually no.. haha.. which is why I like building Martlets (F4F Wildcats in drag) so much... there is like 5 minutes of sanding on that Tamiya kit and you are done!!! I like Cockpits, hmmm and cockpits... and canopies.... actually I am happy when I get that done and usually that is when I stall in the build. I guess the intricate parts fascinate me and the rest is just not as fun for me... (did I mention masking canopies? and oh yeah... cockpits...)

Don't get me wrong... once I get decals and weathering done I am ecstatic... but in between it is a bit of a chore some days...

Hi guys I've just read the last couple of pages of posts and the around the world GB sounds like a cool idea. Please count me in if there is a spare spot, just don't give me anything to do with the canopy

Progress update on the Wild cat is zippo at the moment. I'm going to finish off the Buffalo for the Aussie GB before I start on it again.

Darren - I can't wait to see the F4F... as you can tell I have a sweet spot for this aircraft (never did like it till I built the Martlet) BTW: I am sending you and email right after this... check your mail...

Take your time, dont need to burn out.. it will all come to you as the urge hits you!!

Good to see your in Darren how about i do the wheels and drop tank then send it to Pingy for C/pit constuction the he sends it to you for assembly........

As for who keeps the finished model, it doesn't matter to me.
All we need is a pic from each person posing with the model in hand after they finished their part, and we can all have a piece of the pie.

Hope this idea comes to fruition.

Maybe Finescale would do a write up on this after it is finished??

This round the world GB thing is really taking off. When are we looking at starting this thing? I'll definitely be in when it starts.

Greetings all-The 'Around the World' GB looks interesting. Good luck with it. Will be interesting to follow the build.

Actually did some work on the SBD-2 this evening. Landing gear is in, bomb loaded and the wing flaps installed (down position, of course). Masking & painting the canopy and finishing the prop are the remaining major tasks left. Hopefully will be able to finish next weekend.

Question for the Dauntless experts in this build-is the 'roll bar' (for lack of the correct term) interior green or the same as the exterior color of the plane?-thanks in advance 'cause I won't be able to check in for a couple of days.

btw-Tom, saw that you weren't feeling well (hanging out in the North Africa GB, hope to start that project early June)-hope you feel better soon.

Jules - have an interesting walkaround for you... I found this on J-aircraft.com and it is a restores A6M2 in Pearl colors. It was done with the help of historians so hopefully it adds legitamacy to it... not the conttol surfaces color...

also note the interior color, almost an RAF interior green if you ask me... kit instructions had me putting something in akin to light olive drab.

Just thought it might help us... I can probably mask my controls surfaces and use the first color I used for that and reshoot the slightly more green color over it...
