Great Job, Yardbird!! I guess I'd better get started on my photo Panther. Anyone built this kit? Or know what the cameras are supposed to look like? I've built a SR-71 before (the old Revell kit) but nothing where you might actually see the Cameras. - Calvin

Leaks like a sive on the ground, get her up to 80,000 ft. she seals up and flies like a bat out of hell!

Pretty wicked Yardbird. Great job!

Well done, mate. I hope you don't mind me using the pic of the landing gear as a ref for my landing gear. So far, I haven't been able to find any pics of these, so it'll be most useful.
Great looking build you got there.
Cheers,
John

I have finished my SR-71C trainer/Hangar Queen for this GB. I have posted a more complete write up on the general aircraft forum and I will repost the pictures here.

I have to admit that the scale fidelity is exceptional. The cost of buying the "model" is probably a little over my budget though.

Hey guys
Is there any chance that I could join as I've been wanting to build a FW 189 recon plane for a while?

Sounds good, Darwin.
I had a chat with the a/c bloke at my LHS today. Apparently, one way I can do my build is to splice a Minicraft 737-400 with a Revell 737-800. This would also mean shortening the fuselage. The Revell wings, engines and landing gear would be used, Minicraft for everything else. It's sounding like a pretty complex build, but I have time to do it, so here's hoping.
Cheers,
John
P.S. I think Blackwolf's badge did win in the end. So this will be the official GB badge. However, if you want to use any of the other 2 submissions, feel free. At the end of the build, all members will use Blackwolf's badge.

Damon, the RF-101 is looking good. I assume that is the 1/72, since I don't think Hasegawa makes a 1/48 recce version of the Voodoo. I love recce birds.

I have my SR-71C assembled , painted and decaled. I am working on some details before I put the clear flat on it. I spent most of the late evening putting brake lines on the main struts.

Builds are looking good so far. My PR XI Spitfire build is still a few months away, but I know I'll enjoy looking at these builds as the materialize.

BTW - what was the final count on the badges? I think BlackWolf's won out, but I guess it really doesn't matter.

I got started on the Voodoo, not much done, gotta wait for the paint to dry and put down a couple of second coats:

I've done the fuselage prep. I didn't like how Hasegawa molded the camera windows as just a recess in the fuselage you glue the clear piece into, so I drilled and filed out all the window holes...

Here's a picture showing how I opened up the windows... I'm not sure if I'm going to use the kit windows, or use something like Krystal Kleer for the windows yet. Will decide that later in the build.

Not a good picture, I'm afraid, but I even opened up the nose camera window...

Here's what else has been done so far. The gear wells have gotten their first coat of green; the intake trunks have their first coat of FS36622 Grey (I think that's the color, references for me have been hard to come by), and I'm just waiting for the paint to dry before putting on the second coats.

I have been working on my 1/72 scale SR-71C that I initially registered to do for the Stealth GB, but it is my "back up bird" for this GB. I will post a couple of pictures here too. The front portion of the plane is the Testors/Italeri kit of the SR-71 and the back half is the YF-12A. She will be dressed as the "Hangar Queen" that she was from 1976 to 1990. She now resides at the Hill AFB, Utah, museum.

Now that you mention it, YES! Although, for the EC-130H, I'd go with Alan Parson's "I, Robot"...

Now, to keep this post on subject, Big Smile [:D] I'll put a vote in for Blackwolf's badge as well... especially with my time on EC-130's, we were definitely 'alone, unarmed, unafraid??!'

I can't resist anything connected with the SR-71, so I'll vote for John's badge.

My Vote is for BlackWolf's badge. Sorry John. The SR-71 and U2 on your badge suggest modern era planes, and I think Wolf has done a good job of keeping his badge era neutral.

Can you send me the elements (all the individual pics you used to create it)? I'll mock it up verbatim (as you have it) in Photoshop so we can scale it accordingly for those who want it in another size.

However, I gotta be honest and say I like BlackWolf's badge.

OD, is right. The Panthers didn't exactly have the best range to begin with. While they were pretty fast, most times (from what I've gathered) they went in escorted. If someone else is doing one I'd be more than happy to share the badge.

I doubt the F9-F-5P had the range or time over target to do a arty spotting/FAC role. Quick in and out photo recce would be my guess.
