Dave your Jug looks GREAT well done.

Rick Great job on your bmf your build is progressing nicely.  Did I see you mention you used futur as an primer coat to the Alclad as oppsed to the gloss black.  Does it work better than the gloss black??  I have a couple of kits that would require bmf & i'm doing some home work before i try my hand with the Alclad.

Progress update: painting and touch ups are done and i installed & rigged the gears last night.  I just have to intall the decals and the few fiddly bits pitot tube, gear doors, canopy and I'm done.

Here is a progress pic

Cheers

More progress made.  The decals are now on & top-coated.  Down to final assembly & light weathering, as the deadline draws nigh.

Rick, great job on the NMF!

Dave, beautiful looking jug.  I think I like the OD versions better than the NMF, sorry Rick...

Confused [%-)] hmmmm... where did I put my lates Fine Scale Modeler magazine..... I need that article on filling seams.  So far this P-51 has been a pretty easy build.  I have a couple of minor spots that need some filling, specifically the sprue detachment points on the fuselage.  I don't want to take the chance have getting an awesome Alclad II finish... with blemishes in the seam lines.  Dead [xx(] Laugh [(-D]

Good Luck Scott Smile [:)].  Alclad is actually very easy to use, but preperation is key.  Like any NMF, the model surface must be as blemish free as possible, because any blemish will be magnified with the NMF.  Also, it works best if applied over a gloss finish.  I've never had any luck with the Alclad gloss primer or with the technique Swanny uses.  But I find it works great over Future & that's all I use anymore.

Thanks for the tips Rick.  Smile [:)]  I figured the first go at it I'd stick with the Alclad Primer, Alclad Gloss Black and then I got 3 different shades of aluminum so it wouldn't all look like one color.  Any suggestions on how long I should wait for the primer to dry/cure before applying the gloss black?  And then how long should I wait for the gloss black to dry/cure before applying the Alclad II?

I decided to take the plunge and try Alclad II for the first time.  My LHS (High Sierra Models) had all the stuff I needed in stock.  Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it!  Pirate [oX)]

I'm trying to decide how I want to do the natural metal finish on the P-51D.  The directions give me 2 options:

1. Tamiya TS17 Gloss Aluminum in the spray can

2. Mix 1 part X-11 Chrome Silver and 1 part XF-16 Flat Aluminum and air brush.

Has anyone used either of these two options? Question [?]

I finally have some progress on my P-51.  All the interior green parts i.e. cockpit, interior and wheel wells have been sprayed, as have all the silver bits i.e. radiator, landing gear, inside of landing gear doors, wheel hubs etc.  Tomorrow I paint the black details and the wooden floor.  I should be putting the sub-assemblies together Friday evening and hope to be spraying the exterior on the weekend.  I'll post some update photos after the interior detail is done.

More progress made on my Jug.  Good thing as time is running short Smile [:)].

Some of the panels shaded with 3 more from Alclad, Dark Aluminum, White Aluminum & Duraluminum.  The shading doesn't show as well in the pics as it looks in real life.  Also got the anti-glare panel & under side invasion stripes painted.  Next comes decals.

Well, here she is in all of her OD glory - in spite of my attempts to destroy her.  Wink [;)]

This is Tamiya’s 1:48 P-47D Razorback, an outstanding kit as everyone already knows. Used Acrylicos Vallejo Model Air paint and Pollyscale gloss and flat finishes. Decals are Superscale 48-879.

Still working on weathering techniques and really did not apply any on this build. Well I did try, remember the Windex incident .

Still have a few odds-n-ends to wrap up, antenna wire, the gun site that I somehow missed, etc.

Paint scheme and marking represent Major Quince Brown’s “Okie”, P-47-6RE s/n 42-74753, WZ-J, from sometime in the 1943 – 44 timeframe.

Some background info, taken in part from the 78th Fighter Group web page:

Major Quince L. Brown was one of top scoring aces of the 78th Fighter Group. He was credited with 14.333 victories per 8th Air Force standards in less than two years in the ETO. He also distinguished himself as the first 8th Fighter Command P-47 pilot to participate in a ground strafing attack. During his second combat tour, he was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire, captured and murdered by a German civilian. Major Brown's personal awards included the Silver Star, five(5) DFCs and six(6) AMs. On October 15, 1994 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame.

Ok, I have taken on way more group builds than I can handle given my current very hectic life so there is no way I can have my 1/32 Trumpeter P-40B and all the aftermarket goodies completed by the end of the month.  Dead [xx(]

Can you please change my build to the 1/48 Tamiya P-51D Mustang flown by Captain John C. Meyer?  He is credited with a total of 24 air victories, 21 of those in the P-51.  Cool [8D]

Thanks! Smile [:)]

Rick your bmf on the jug looks great.  I can't wait to see some more.

Rudy  Check the first page of the GB Jay posted a link to Aces of WW2 site it's a great resource and it does have a section on Polish aces.  You may find what your looking for.

Progress Camo paint is done and the build survivedBig Smile [:D].  The gears have to go on as well as the prop and small bits.  I still have to paint the leading edge trim , gun ports & canopy.  I'm starting to see scenery as well as light at the end of the tunnel.

Cheers

I'll have to think of something else, as the P.11 is already painted and decaled as a non-ace mount. So get rid of the P.11 entry. However, I'll reconsider doing Gabby's mount, as soon as I get decals for that plane of his...... Does anyone know of Witold Lanowski's kill count? If he's an ace, I'll do Tamiya's 1/48 scale P-47M as his ship.

Nice job on the Jug so far Rick

Well guys not much progress going on. Im almost done with the engine. Unfortunately I willprobably not get this one done b/c school is starting and on top of that Marching Band takes up every day except Sunday and then I have Worship team practices. So I will probably not be around very much but when I do make progress worth noting I will come and post pics.
