Brian, all the a/m metal tracks I've seen so far have solid horns on them too. I don't suppose you can get the 1mm taps cheap over there can you?

Howdy Tiger fans!

Sorry that I've been out of the loop for a bit, but I've been away from the 'puter.
Yes, I'm very interested in submitting pictures of my progress. It's just that I haven't made any progress yet! I'm still gathering my supplies. I picked up some evergreen plastic stock, a pin vise with many assorted drill bits. (Yeah, they have the 1mm bit. X-acto makes the set and it sells for $29.) I'm still looking for those track hangers though! Please help! I also found a link on the FRAG armor website, Model Masters LLC sells real tow cables for the Tiger I and the King Tiger. No idea what the price is yet though. I'll be going on vacation for a week starting today, so I'll see you all when I return. Later!

Howdy, okieboy!
Don't worry; I think we're all slowly easing into this one!

That's a crying shame about the AM tracks, Eric. What's the point? The Tamiya tracks are perfect, save for the lack of horn hole! The only reason I'd get AM tracks is if they had that feature.
Oh well.
Any ideas on how to modify the Tamiya tracks? The hardened vinyl is too hard to work with, I think. Frays and feathers, can't get a clean, smooth hole. I know; I tried it on my 1/25 Tiger! That may be a different material, however.

I don't know about cutting the hole on those track Hulk. I guess if there is an extra link or two on the runs you could see if it will drill out then shape it with a knife and file Tongue [:P] talk about a chore. Maybe one of us should build a mold and start casting our own Big Smile [:D]Tongue [:P] I think I'll just work with what I've got here. If I happen to see any with the correct horns I'll let you know.

erush,
now while i am not in on this build i can tell you that a 1mm tap is not fairly cheap... thats a tiny tap ...lol I have a master tap and die set and i will check to see if i have a 1mm one , if i do maybe i can send it out or at least get you the part number and cast for it.
Also any of you know a dentist, cause dentist bits rock for the dremel, i have used them for like a year now and man do they come in handy...just a thought.:)

OK, here's a bone for all of you. I too am still gathering all the parts needed for this. I received my barrel from Brassbarrels.com in the mail yesterday.

Here it is pictured next to a PanzerKampfwagen ll Ausf F (for size reference)

Erock, looks like a baseball bat!

Erush, I just realized we're both Georgia boys! I'm from Brunswick, and spent many years in Atlanta (well, Stone Mountain) and Athens.
Small world!

It is a small world Brian. I grew up in Marietta, went to UGA in Athens for a couple years, and lived in Kingsland for a couple years when I was a kid!! I haven't been to Japan though, what took you out there? Military or just the job??

University brought me to Japan, Eric. I was a Japanese language major at UGA and had an opportunity to study at a university here in Japan. I fell in love with the place during my time at school, and decided I'd like to live and work here for a while. And now it's been nearly 10 years! Japan is a wonderful country, with a fascinating culture and beautiful people. If anyone ever has a chance to visit, I can't recommend it enough!

But I'd have to say the seed was planted by Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Kikaider, and all the other great Japanese movies and TV shows I loved as a kid!

Eric, when were you at UGA? I was there on and off from '90-'95 (was in Japan for some of that time).

I was at UGA in 85-87 so I guess we missed each other there. That's cool that you got to Japan that way and liked it so much. I think if I didn't live here in GA I'd move to Germany. I think Bavaria is some of the prettiest country in the world and I could just sit outside and look at it!

Tried to get a Hold 'n' Fold today, but they were out of stock today!
Next week, I'll try again.
But temptation threatened, as they did have the Trumpeter's 1/32 F-105 kits on the shelves!
Soooo many cool kits I NEED to build...

Brian,

There's another brand of those photo etch folders out there that's supposed to be better than the Hold-n-fold. I'll see if I can find the name for you. (about the same price! :-(

Easier than I thought. It's called the Etch Mate by MissionModels.com (I think). Check it out at greatmodels.com (hard to read the makers name). A comparative review I read somewhere said the Hold-n-Fold has some issues that the Etch Mate doesn't. As I remember, Hold-n-Fold got a part wrong and came out with another part to fix it that's an extra cost item. But maybe the newer ones are okay.
That 1/32 Thud's got to be huge!!

Good modeling.

I ordered the "Etch Mate" on Thursday and will hopefully get here sometime next week.

Well, now everything is falling into place EXCEPT.......

I saw these and really wanted to get them. I saw quite a few different 1/16 sets at Squadron to choose from also. I really liked this set because, of all the commander figures I have seen, this one most closely resembles Wittman (to me anyway)

Zoiks! 1/16 figures aren't cheap, either!

As for the PE folders, I read a review that said the HnF was just a tad better than the Etch-Mate, as far as usability and practicality goes. One reviewer's opinion, eh? Actually, no big diff, it said.
I'll get whichever crosses my path first!

Hey guys,

I've been away for a couple of weeks and when I got back I noticed this thread. (sniff, sniff) it brings a tear to my eye. This gentlemen, in my opinion is the epitome of the comraderie and communicative value of this forum. Though I won't be participating, I am following this with enthusiasm and am tickled to see the information sharing and the troubleshooting going on that I'm sure will lead to a successful result for all those participating.
Please continue as this is a fine example of the power, informative, and unlike other forums (that have shown their bad side) the personable and user friendly attitude that I have come to respect and look forward to and participate in this forum.

Keep up the progress reports and good luck. Its threads like this that peak peoples interests as they see and hear about your progress, pitfalls and accomplishments. T.V.? Ha! I have this thread to look forward to.
Oh yeah, and don't forget.........PICTURES!!!

Good Luck and I wish you guys the best.

Brian...you should be tied to a fence and beat with a piece of spaghetti! (Or something like that.) You had me going. I was thinking, "Man how could he get that thing finished so fast. And, does it ever look good. I could never get a tank done that fast, all night or not!") I owe you big time! lolol

Eric, great job on the build site. It looks terrific!
