Thanks Roy.  I am going to push on, if it gets worse I'll put her down for a bit.  Thanks for the advice!

I for one am not an expert but maybe you should consider what Mike said, set it down and come back to it later.  Or ask yourself what have I done different on the last 2 paint jobs compared with the way I used to do it, Just my My 2 cents [2c].  Bottom-line, it will turn out OK.  Or as we say in the Homebrew world, "Relax and have a homebrew" Make a Toast [#toast]

LOL, thanks Roy!  It should go well, just a little concerned that the last two planes I have built have ended up with botched paint jobs.  I really hope it's not a trend that continues for very long. Sigh [sigh]

Roy, Mike-

Thanks for the encouragement guys!  I think I'm going to keep at it for now.  Nothing like a lil' setback to keep one humble. Disapprove [V]

Been there myself, Frank. Sometimes I've found it best to put projects aside for a while, then get back into them with a fresher perspective after I've worked on something else. Forcing myself to work on something takes all the fun out of it, but if the desire to see it through at that moment exists, I'll stay with it. I'm sure yours is going to be a real looker when done! Thumbs Up [tup]

Roy, that 3 weeks will just fly by! You'll see! You will be up and modeling again in no time!

Dave, looks like we might get a break from the rain, at least for today and tomorrow. I'm hoping so, because the grass really needs to be cut and I hate doing it when it's wet.

Frank, think of it as a FAA overhaul/refitWhistling [:-^]  I'm sure it will turn out great.  Well three weeks before I leave Cool [8D].  I looked into a stop in your town but it's too far out of the way.  Keep the progress report going.

I thought I might be able to fix the paint that I had already sprayed, but it was not to be.  Last night, I worked on her half of the night and ended up sanding back the paint so I could fix it and redo it.  This morning, I went to the LHS and picked up some MM dark sea grey and dark slate grey.  Not sure if I am going to take a lil' break from her for a lil' while and concentrate on the Spit, or if I am going to press on.  In the past, something like this would have landed her in the scrap box, but after all I went through with that blasted Zero, this shouldn't be too bad.  Here is how she looks today:

Frank found my cross reference chart

Extra Dark Sea Grey is Gunze H333 - no tamiya match

No match for the dark slate grey in either gunze or tamiya.  Both polyscale (505266) and MM Enamels (2056) have it though.

Darren- are you sure about the Humbrol 224?  Can't find any reference to it at IPMS Stockholm.

Thanks for the help guys!  I another problem is the demarcation is too soft, makes the colors blend too much.  I can't find my cross-reference chart, seem to have lost it in the move...

Can anyone help with a Gunze or Tamiya paint number for the green?

Darren, the Spit is looking great so far! ....and it's neat to see that Corsair again too! Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank, I've been looking at the pics of your build, and I'm leaning towards the green being just a tad too green. It's tricky with colors, the way they can seem to change their hue based on adjacent colors. That's a tough call....but the quality of the paintjob is up to your usual high standards.....looks fantastic so far buddy!

This may help for reference.......

This is the same Tamiya kit built by a very talented fellow at last year's UK Nat's. It gives a good indication of how faded the colours should be.Wink [;)]

Thanks Darren.  The paints I have available here are MM enamels, Gunze acrylics, and Tamiya acrylics.  The grey is Gunze 305 Grey FS36118, and the green is Tamiya Field Grey.

You know what?  my girlfriend and I were looking at it last night, and we can't figure out if the grey looks wrong, or the green.  So, if anyone would care to help us, which do you think is off?  The grey, or the green?  She says one, I say the other.  If you chaps wouldn't mind putting in your My 2 cents [2c], I would love to hear your answer!  I won't say who picked which, of course. Darren-

Thanks!

I was not happy with the colors (too dark), so I started lightening them up and adding random "clouds" of color and got carried away.  Now, I'm deciding whether to try to fixx it again, or just strip it and start over.

Hi Frank,

just read your previous reply, I hope you don't have to strip your model, that would be a real shame after all that nice panel work you put into it. Still, whichever way you go, I'm looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. What kinds of paint do you have availiable to you over there?

Thanks Darren!  I have a cross-reference paint sheet here, I'll see what I can come up with.
