Hey Triumf, I have ordered the Trumpeter Gannet and I'm just waiting for it to arrive from Hobbyeasy, so can you tell me what you think of the kit, especially the cockpit?

Depending on how my build schedule goes I might do the Gannet as part of this GB but I would be doing it in Royal Australian Navy markings.

Cheers

Why....The three of them of course....have alreydy started the Wyvern and the Gannet today

The wyvern looka absolutely stunning in the Suezstripes, and is obvious...as is the ugly duckling;) the Gannet...They both seem to offer little restance;)

Thr Tarpoon with the Stock FAA decals looks nice too....Or I`ll maybe get hands on some aftermarket decals,,,do not as of yet decided;)

I think I will skip the seafire as it would appear neater in a straight spit gb.

Does this satisfy you??

If this Barracuda keeps going together like it is currently I will certainly have time to do the Grand Phoenix 1/48 Firefly Mk 1.

Darren I have received the first batch of photos thanks. I have broadband so send the rest on through! Big Smile [:D]

Dave I was just going through my reference stuff and realised I have quite a lot on the Barracuda.  It includes a lot of "in action" shots as well as a build up of the Special Hobby kit.   If you are interested send me a PM with an email addy that I can send an attachment to.

Here's a sample:

Darren I used to be in Albury/Wodonga but i'm now in the lovely Yallambie out the back gate of Watsonia Army Barracks.

The Barracuda has received it's first interior green coat and now I just have to detail and weather it. I had some drama with the Interior Green as I couldn't find my airbrush so I hand painted the Humrol 78. Unfortunately it dried in all three possible sheens. So I eventualy found my Paasche H and managed to aircrbrush it this morning and it dried flat.

Kurt (goondman), I'll leave it to the other Darren to give you the official hello, but Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Group Build. We haven't officially started yet but a few of us have sort of dipped into our kits already if you know what I mean.

As far as a GB goes it's pretty easy.  Normally you would talk about your build with the other members of the GB and discuss problems you've got or progress you've made.  If you have a digital camera progress pictures are great as we all live for pics.  When you've finished the build you take a bunch of photos and post them here, it's as simple as that.  Also in this GB there is the added bonus on this build of a weekly rum ration of which I had waaaay to much last night btw Dead [xx(].

Darren it's great to hear your mate loved the Tomcat, it bet it made all that work worthwhile.  I know what you mean about posting your work online though, I don't know how many times I've heard the "my works not good enough" line.   Posting online is easy because most people will be very supportive and provide positive comments back, unless you specifically say that you want warts and all feedback.  You also have the bonus of being able to photgraph your model so that any little floors are "hidden".

Dave, I had no idea you were based here in Melbourne, I thought you were up in Queensland somewhere, are you in the burbs somewhere or are you out at Puka?

Good luck with the Barracuda cockpit and don't forget to take some snaps of the finished front office.

Cheers

Is this still open? If so I have a 1/72 (Academy) hellcat with Hasegawa decals I'd like to enter.

I do have one question though. This (would) be my first group build. With that being said, what do we do when finishedWhistling [:-^]. Take pictures, etc and send'em in?

OK, I dunno if this is good form or not on these boards......but I thought I'd share with you what I've been up to last couple of days.

Remember the Tomcat that I built for my friend? Well, I took the long drive over to his place to deliver his model. It was great to see his reaction, he was like a kid at Christmas! Really good to know that he was pleased with what I turned out.

We went out and visited a couple of LHS's and had a nice lunch. Spent pretty much the whole day talking models! I also got to see some of his builds and I was well impressed.Thumbs Up [tup] He builds armor and I've tried to get him to put his work on FSM for others to see, but he is still a bit reluctant as he thinks "they are not good enough" How often have we all said that?

Anyway, he has a dio on the bench and has promised to show that here......sometime. It would be pretty good as I am the only other modeler he actually shows his work to and I know many others would enjoy his work and marvel at his knowledge. He has a vast knowledge of AFV's.

So a fantastic day that went all too quickly, well time flies when you are enjoying yourself!

Then today, it was chores around the home day....Disapprove [V] Still, I got loads done (landscaping/gardening) inbetween keeping my son entertained! Poor little bloke could'nt understand why I won't let him near my power tools! Big Smile [:D]

Anyway, after a good dinner, my wife went to work and my son went to bed. So its just me and a nice cold drink while I put my feet up. Aaaaahhhhhhhhh...........bliss!Wink [;)]

Well it isn't quiet here in Melbourne. It's a long weekend in Victoria Australia and in between the compulsory 'spend time with SWMBO' I have plans for the Barracuda! So far I have managed to 'One Go' the clear parts (Future semi-equivalent) and will hopefully be airbrushing the interior later today or tommorrow.

My biggest drama is the actual positioning of the cockpit assy. Special Hobby doesn't have anything to indicate the correct height of the assy so it's a guessing game to work out how high to put it in the fueslage. I have looked at a few builds online and I THINK I have it about right as you have to trim all of the floors and bulkheads to make it fit.

I finally felt comfortable enough today to paint the "spots" on my '109 with my new 'brush.  Have to say, I am really starting to like the double action 100!
