Finally assembled the rocket trees tonight! To tired to take pics tonight will post tommorow night. Looking good there NucMedTech. I did not spend alot of time on my pit because I was not really impressed by Trumpeters efforts and I did not desire to spend even more time adding or replacing items that were either ommited or poorly represented. I was particularly unhappy with the instrument panel. As you can see in your photos the gauges are set way to far back in the panel and you cannot see then at all. They look black holes in the panel. Keep posting that way I do not feel so alone here and you can also share my pain on some of this kits shortcomings!

Hey didfal could be a mistake on the price printed in the mag. This has happened before. $24.81 does not sound right for an Eduard kit. Most of their Profipack kits sell in the $35.00 dollar range. This kit contains two complete models so even at $37.00 dollars it is a great price especially when you open it up and see the high quality of this kit. You could drop FSM a email and ask them specifically. They are very good about answering questions in a timely manor. I hope you pick one up. You will not be disapointed they are beauties!

As promised here is my interpretation of what the rocket tree could have looked like. I say this because I have no reference pictures to go by so I took a guess as to how the power wires would have been run from the back of the rocket to the tree. The rockets colors were chosen from a picture I found online. It is a armor piercing type. This type used an internal contact fuse in the nose so there would be no fuse or saftey arming wire on the front of the rocket As always all comments or views are more than welcome.

Looks good to me. I'm hating the lack of reference to the rocket launcher myself. I like your interpretation.Cowboy [C):-)]

I'm building a old Revelogram P-38J(85-5477), but  want to do it in 375thFG livery; especially "St. Louis Blues". SuperScale has a decal in '72nd, but I need one in '48th.Banged Head [banghead]

Didfal, I used the decal sheet with St. Louis Blues. I used the other option. If you want the decals, they are yours. Send me your address!

didfaI, I was at a model show this weekend and picked up another decal sheet with St. Louis Blues on it. Superscale for some reason only gives you one decal for front teeth, so I figured that I can mix and match some decals for you. I'm going to try to get that in the mail ASAP, but due to school and work it maybe be a little late. For that I apologize. Don't feel bad if you want to send me a reminder email! I won't take offense!Smile [:)]

I'm just glad I can help a guy out!!!

no pics, just an update. Attaching the booms to the wing and having some fit problems. So I'm glueing one joint at a time and clamping it together, then letting it sit for a day or two. I still think I'm going to have some nasty seems to fill.Sigh [sigh]

NucMedTech I have mocked mine up with tape and it looks like there shoud be no real big problems with and seams. The only part I was not happy with is the way the cooler covers on the booms fit. they do not fit flush. I sanded them as thin as I could and the still stick up somewhat. Other than that you should be OK. I have also noticed that alignment of the nose panels must be done very carefully to achive a nice fit with no gaps. You are probally right gluing one part at a time and getting that fit right then let it dry and fit the next. For my rocket trees I just used thin brass wire for the power wires. I bent them very carefully so they would have the correct look to them. They would have been a rubber cord and would have a soft bend to them while hanging. Post some pics when you get a chance!

ooooh still going I see.  Well I have been away from modelling for the last while and have had zero progress on anything.  I just haven't had the motivation lately so maybe if I can finish off a couple models here I can start my P-38 but I suppose at the rate I am going that will long after this GB finishes.

Thanks to dirtball I now have the detail parts for the 500lb bombs I plan on hanging of this baby. Some nice photo etch props and access panes to give them a little pop. Hope to get cracking on them soon!

I'm working on the gunpack now. Cowboy [C):-)]

Looks like you made some good progress there MucMedTech. I have my 500lber's all done up thanks to some help. They now have fuses and arming props. Just finished a session with the sanding sticks trying to smooth out all of the seems. Not the most exciting part of the build but the gaps were just to bad and much detail was lost smothing over panels where the booms meet the wing. Seems to be a constant for P-38 kits no matter what kit you try. Not much worth posting but I am still plugging away at this never ending prodject.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with these seem problems, I think I'm headed in your direction. Sanding, filling, sanding, filling.... panel lines? We don't need no stinkin' panel lines!Cowboy [C):-)]

Trying to put the nose together with the doors and nose cone. This really sucks! I am only able to glue one section at a time and then wait for it to dry. Then bend the other end of the panel to fit the other side and try to hold it in place while the glue dries so it does nt pop back out of place. I am looking foward to putting this one behind me as there has not been much to enjoy about this kit. When it is done it will definetly look cool but i would not recomend this kit to anyone unless you enjoy massive amounts of sanding reshaping and scribing. I am hoping the sheer size of this beast will draw attention away from all of the poor fitting panels. When I finally get some paint on her i will be able to tell if it was all worth it. Alot of work done but nothing worth posting pics of.

Started filling and sanding this past weekend, and from the looks of it this will take some time. I'm doing one side at a time so that I can use the other side as reference to rescribe the panel lines and rivet holes that I will most likely lose to sanding. As Soulcrusher said "still plugging away..."

Hey guys. I know this is a little off topic, but seems all of you know your P38 very well. I have the Trump 38, but dont want to do it NMF. Soooo, I cant seem to find any decals in 1/32 for a colored 38. Can any of you help? Would it be possible to get a set of hobbycraft 1/32? Thanks...........Harv

Hey Harvey

I have done some research on this topic and it appears all L models were delivered in NMF. I looked through all of my references and could not come up with a field appied camo job. The Hobbycraft kit is just a reboxing of the Trumpeter kit. The decal sets are even identical. Have you tried the large scale planes web site?

http://www.largescaleplanes.com/

here is the only other option for decals I have found. Unfortunatly they are both NMF.

http://www.largescaleplanes.com/reviews/Decals/WW2/EagleCals/EC72/EC72.html

Mabye you might have some luck there.

No problem. I have mixed up several shades of Tamiya flat aluminum to break up this huge shape. I also plan on using some post shading of particular panels to break up the shape alittle more. On Itsy Bitsy the nose is painted black as well as the top of the engine panels. This should also help. that is the main reason I chose those markings. I've got some paint on her but I want to wait until I get all of the black panels painted before I post some pics.

Mike, depending how my F86 turns out(later on) I`ll be using Hawkeyes stuff. Also in Aircraft someone ( cant remember who) had a post talking about using just TnJ powders with NO paint. Its supposed to work very well. Worth a try anyway. Thanks on the heads up on the black paint........Harv

I have been eyeing Hawkeye's NMF products for a while. They seem to be the easiest to use and from the pictures i have seen posted the results look good. I did not consider them for my P-38 because I wanted to model a weathered Pacific theater plane where the NMF appears very dull and worn in all of the color photo's I have. I think I am going to try them on my 1/48 Classic Airframes Lockheed Model 14. As this plane would have been kept in much cleaner condition I imagine. I am going to try and paint the black panels for the P-38 tonight. If i finish up early enough I will try and post some pics.
