Yeah Jon, they did come with cardboard backing, but they are so frail, they may have become a little damaged in transit. I agree Chris, they should have packed them better, maybe putting cardboard on both sides of the fret.

Those first two photos are exactly what I was saying about the sag touching the second roadwheel (maybe should have said first outside wheel, hard to tell if its touching, but close)

heres the diferent track sags
the first one is on a Panther D

the second is on a Panther G steel wheel

the third is a Panther G at Aberdeen as in Muzzelflashes photo (rusted tracks)

but the Forth picture is of a Panther G that was captured and used by the British, it must be moving or on rough ground becouse the tracks are toutching the last wheel only

so in the end its up to you what you want the tracks to look like, i will just look at a photo i like and copy it

all the photos are from http://www.achtungpanzer.com/pz4.htm#panther

Tigerman, I can't remember where, but I've read that the tracks are supposed to finally touch down on the fourth set of road wheels (which would be the second set of outside wheels).

Oh, and thanks to all for letting us non-1/35 Panther modelers join in!

Mine were packed with a cardboard backing in a ziplock style bag but were still damaged.

Great deal Chris, looks like we will be building the same kit. I don't have a lot of experience either with p/e, but it should be interesting. Mine got a little tweaked during delivery also.

I got my kit in the mail yesterday. Tamiya Panther G late with pe zim.Only thing I have really noticed so far is that one end of the pe looks like it got slammed intot he end of the box or something. Best I can tell none of the pieces are to bad off but I've never messed with pe before. Other than that looks like a good deal for $25.

The sag doesn't look natural, too taught. The track should be touching the second roadwheel. I checked a few of my references to verify this.

Frosty go for the Ersatz, that would be cool. Cool [8D]

Nice pic muzzle, doesn't seem like enough sag though, does it?

As long as it is Panther related, anything goes. Why not? We have bent the rules a bit, but we will become more knowlegable on the entire Panther family this way. Thumbs Up [tup] Glad to have Frosty and Brian join our Panther party. Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Frosty,

What book is it to which you're refering?? Where did you find it? It sounds interesting!

Thanks

Good one LOL.

The Ersatz M-10 would be cool, I don't think anyone else was gonna try it.

thanx, bill !
and as for being finished before the rest of the gang, i'm not so sure...
if i do an ersatz M10 (hey, it's still a panther under there, rite ?), i'll have to do some scratchbuilding... i got the idea from the Armor Conversions book and was thinking that it might be fun to try in 1/72 instead !
it's going to be really interesting to see what everybody comes up with.
have a good weekend !

I would personally welcome both Frosty and Brian with open arms. (Frosty's liable to be done a little before any of we are, though. But that's okay.

Nope, I haven't started yet.

Me either. For me, it's December 1 to Feb 1. That's the game! If it ain't done on Feb 1, I'm going to post a photo of an incomplete bucket of bolts. "Look, it's one of the Panthers the Allies found in the factory!"

Well so far we have broken or badly bent every group build "rule" Big Smile [:D] (same mfg., same variant, etc.) but I think we have kept the spirit (somewhat). Wink [;)]
What do you say, should we let Frosty and J-Hulk play?
We might as well break the "same scale" rule too!

P.S. Rule =suggestion right? Mischief [:-,]

is the group build limited to 1/35 only, or do u guys have room for "the little people" (1/72 and 1/76 scale) ? it sounds like fun, but i'd rather use a kit i've already got than have to buy a new one... i've already started on a ausf G in 1/72, and i've just about finished my first 1/35 build, the tamiya Walker Bulldog.
don't worry, if it's 1/35 only, that's ok... really.... sniff sniffle...Sad [:(]Sad [:(]

I wash them while they are on the sprue, because I figure that the model might get damaged if I wash it after it was built.

i wash them while everthing is still on the sprue.
then again before paint.
i figure i need every possible advantage.
i have never had problem w/ mold release interfering w/ glue.
but why chance it, right?

Nick, I'll wash mine before painting them but I've never bothered for the build.

* moans of despair rise from the gallery * Wink [;)]

I know I get enough oils from my hands on a kit when I'm building that it's not going to matter enough to bother but I will wash them before I paint because that is critical.

I just got my final parts a few days ago, so I haven't started yet. I was only going to wash the kit in soap and water, so it will be ready to go.
