Cold War GroupBuild 2008 (1/3/08 to 1/3/09).

Dupes:

I read the review over on Modelingmadness and Mr. Cleaver really butchered the kit, basically saying it as a rip off of the old Monogram kit but with recessed panel lines. I have to admit it was the recessed panel lines (and low price) that convinced me to get this kit.

I have yet to attach any main pieces, so the jury is still out, but from what I see it looks to be a nice kit. I don't mind a little flash (you have to sand the seam lines anyways) but the pebble surface is the only "undesirable" so far.

I'll try to post pics when I can.

Is it too late to join this build?  If not, I've got a BRDM-1 and BRDM-U that I'd like to build.  A good match for Soviet Green is Floquil Pullman Green according to a good friend of mine.  Are missiles allowed as well, if so, I've got a SS-6 Sapwood that I'd like to build as well.

Well since I'm doing Soviet stuff, Russian kits are in order.  The BRDMs are from Eastern Express in 1/35  and the SS-6 is from Maquette is 1/144.

Thanks, Chris. I could use this. But I think I mis-typed as well. For this build I'm going with an F-84F (big difference, I know!). I am, however, building a Sabre in another GB, so your references would be of great help.

Phew...I have made some progress on the F-84F. Here is the cockpit...the rest should flow a little quicker from this point.

Picked up the Trumpeter SA-6 kit - supersharp detail, looks VERY cool. If my T-55 doesn't show up soon, I may have to start in this puppy.

Townsy - looking at your post, what's the end date of this GB? Is it January 3rd? Or is 1/3/08 Canadian parlance for the 1st of March? Just checking.

correction...if OUR T-55's (plural) don't show up soon...I'm anxious to get going on mine too...I'm GB-less right now...I feel naked (sorry for the visual on that one guys) not having a GB build on the bench!!!

Lol, That's just how I write my dates (in ascending DD/MM/YY order) I wrote it out normally in the first post. (so yes, the end date is March 1st 2009.)

And I'm looking forward to both your and SMJ's twin T-55's, but you can always enter both the SA-6 and the T-55 if your ambitious.

Yeah, that dupes guy hardly EVER joins these GB's...you'd think he'd do AT LEAST two builds!!!

Yeah, I'm involved in a couple of GB's right now...would love to double up on the T-55/SA-6. Let me see what I can fit in.

SMJ if you're GB-less I'm sure I can help you find soem good ones to get in on.

I plan to build Mig-23MF within next three months. If this will fit into this GB than sign me up.

This is 1/48 Italieri kit, The kit is the only one on the market at this time. Pretty bad in shape and paneling. Basically it requires to correct nose shape, and rescribing ALL the panel lines.

I do have a PE sets for the cockpit (YIKES !! What a spartan design by Itelieri) and I plan to use some additional enhancements to the engine and u/c.

Markings will be with Polish Air Force 

I'll try to post pictures this weekend, but I did get more of the PE on the turret of the Centurion and also some of the rear structures. The biggest work was that I assembled and mounted the Fruil tracks onto the tank .

Crossovers are fine with me Mg.Mikael, but you might want to check if the host of the other GB is okay with it aswell.

And sounds cool, Telsono. Can't wait to see it with the Friuls.

So can I join this GB with a 1/35 Zvezda M-30 122mm Howitzer? I know it was used late into the seventies by the Russians, and saw limited service in the Afghan-Russian war.......so can I join?

The rules on the other GB state crossovers are fine, so it looks okay to me.

Townsy - just noticed the "missiles" badge on the front page - would the SA-6 fall into that category?

Man I want to get cracking on some of the stuff for this GB...plugging away at the other stuff that's first in line.

Yep, you bet!

Hmmm. Very interesting.

In that case, I'm going to be shooting for the following...

Tamiya T-55 for the tank badge,

Trumpeter SA-6 for the missile badge,

and either an F-111 or MiG-19 (both 1/48) for the a/c badge.

Would love to think that I could cram in a chopper too, but I don't think I'll have time. We'll have to play it by ear (and by number of other GB's - heh). That OIF/ODS thing has got me pretty excited.
