sorry I havent been around for a while, it's just that I have alot to do now that I started high school and alot going on in my life.  I hope to be back on as much as possible now.

Luftwaffe, your build looks amazing!

Mike, great job on Bretschneider's machine.

I did manage to finish my Revell 1/72 190, though not as well as Mike's as I found the canopy a complete pile of poo!

Well, since it looks like this one is winding down I'll give it one last shot in the arm.  Here is "Rauhbautz VII" flown by Leutnant Klaus Brestschneider the Staffelkäpitan of 5./JG 300 flown from Erfurt, Germany in October of 1944.  Bretschneider was one of the new breed pilots, posted to JG 300 when the air battle for Germany was beginning to swing in favor of the USAAF and the RAF.  He was posted to 5./JG 300 in July 1943. He obtained his first victory on the night of 5/6 September 1943. By April 1944, he had, as a "Wilde Sau" night fighter flying single-engined interceptors, achieved 14 night victories during 20 combats. On 19 July 1944, Bretschneider was appointed Staffelkapitän of 5./JG 300. He also achieved success during the day intercepting USAAF four-engined bombers. His best day came on 7 October 1944 when he attacked a group of B-17s. He downed two bombers in one attack and rammed a third. He was later found safe, hanging in his parachute from a tree, on the edge of an 8 meters deep ravine. On 18 November 1944 he received the Ritterkreuz for 31 victory. On 24 December 1944, Bretschneider was killed when attacking a group of four-engined bombers around Kassel. Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8/R8 (W.Nr. 682 204) "Red 1" was hit by a P-51 probably from 357th FG, USAAF, over Hausen, near Oberaula in Hessen, and crashed.  Klaus Bretschneider shot down 34 enemy aircraft, 14 of them at night. Included in his 20 day-victories were 17 "heavies".

As those of you who have been following along know this one gave me some problems but overall all I'm pretty happy with it.

Constructor -- what a beautiful build! It makes me want to excavate my stash and pull out mine! The mottle on the tail is especially impressive, such fine dots! The colorful markings are an eye-treat and she looks sturdy and business-like.

Jacob -- should be a great build, I have the same kit and have been trying to find time to get to her, but it's looking less and less likely as my committments pile up. I look forward to seeing how she goes together.

Mike, great job on the Revell 190, I'm just finishing mine off now.

I wish I'd the route you took, and replaced the entire canopy as the Revell item sucks!

Constructor, that is a truly stunning looking Wurger! 

The paint is spot on, and the dropped flaps are excellent.

I am finally done with my Fw190D (Tamiya 1/48). Basic construction was OOB but I added Eduard PEs to the cockpit, and the landing flaps. I also cut off the tail wheel from its strut and inserted a brass wire into the strut to make the wheel articulate. The red and yellow band were airbrushed. I chose to do this because I've had some bad experiences with decal stripes not conforming to the fuselage. I guess that's it. I enjoyed this group build immensely because of the continous exchange of ideas and support. Thanks guys! Here are some photos:

Thanks, Stan.  The paint chipping is salt over Tamiya Aluminum.  I need to get a mortar and pestle to grind the salt up a little finer though, especially in this scale.  I'll do some blending with a silver pencil when I finish up the weathering.

Gloss coat, wash and decals applied.  I have some touch up to do, a couple of spots I'm not real happy with.  Still fighting me, although it's more me being a bonehead that anything else at this point.

Looks like you are making some good progress Mike. I myself have never built a model where everything when right though i have some that have had some only minor gliches like losing the antenna post on my D-9! The mottleing looks spot on. Keep up the good work.

OK, bet you guys thought I'd given up, well close to it!

Ever have one of those builds where everything goes right and it just kind of puts itself together?  I do occasionally, but not this one!  Ended up purchasing a new airbrush, I just couldn't get the old one to work right and was getting nowhere replacing parts one at a time.

Anyway, here is "Tough Guy" (it's living up to the name) painted.  The most significant mod is the cowl ring.  This is a nice kit but Revell screwed the pooch on the nose.  It has too much taper and winds up looking too small.  On the real thing the cowl ring was slightly flared.  I grafted a cowl ring from a Hasegawa kit on, didn't get it quite right (too big) but I think next time I should be in the ballpark, a little more sanding on the back side.  The cockpit armor plates are made from .010" plastic stock, this took a few tries to get right and I still wound up out a little heavy handed on the rivet detail.  The cowl machine gun troughs were filled in since the R-2 often deleted these to save weight.  Put some landing flaps on and repositioned the rear elevators.  If you look close you can see some home made resin inserts for the exhaust pipes too,  Phewwww!

I finished up tonight by glueing the antenna post onto the tail and adding the antenna wire. the model still looks the same so i will not post pics agian. the antenna usally does'nt show up in the pics anyway. So basicly I'm done! Thanks jacob for inspiring this group build and inspiring me to build my D-9. i enjoyed it alot. i'll see you guys around.

You are to kind Guy. I always appreciate you postive input on my modeling skills. I beleive you are probally correct that probally very few of us are ever 100% happy with any particular build. I have been glueing plastic for well over thirty years and I guess I am always expecting each build to be better than before. My skills have progressed alot but my lack of artistic abilities have put some techniques beyond my abilities. I do like to try to expand my bag of tricks sometimes though with not so stellar results. Like they say we live and we learn, sometimes the hard way by destroying a good model with a big mistake. The difference is when I was younger the  model would often meet the wall at a hgh velocity. Now I can put it down and repair the mistake and make the best out of it.

Stan -- I'm blown away! I've seen this beast built a couple of times and she lends herself to an expert's touch. If I can complete a Jv44 jet-defender at anything like this standard I'll be over the moon. I can see how huge a job it is and I know I won't attempt it in 1:32 anytime soon, it'll probably be years. The detailing, the finish, they're well up there, they're magazine quality, easily! Fantastic job, and thankyou so much for sharing it with us! This is one of those threads I'll keep bookmarked and refer back to at times, both for the fab pictures and the great research data all the way through!
