I don't want to get the pictures up here.. a bit too many to dig up at several places...

BUT, 2008 was the year I started serious modelling, and joined these forums. The best year in my life! I actually started serious modelling! Big Smile [:D]

My year in review....

an old Revell kit  FM2 wildcat.  Interesting story about J-5.  It was built by a mechanic on one of the jeep carriers involved in the confrontation with Center force at Leyte.  A botched landing wrecked several planes and he was told to salvage something.  So parts from several planes were put together and numbered J-5.   Given its pedigree, the pilots were leery of test flying the aircraft until one brave soul volunteered, went up and put it through its paces.  After the war, this mechanic was discharged and was driving cross country from his former base in California to his home in the midwest.  On a long flat stretch of highway, they paralleled a railway and overcame a train carrying war material to scrap.  He looked over and on one flatcar saw a beat up wildcat with the number J-5, his aircraft.

Next up was my first attempt at a diorama using the Tamiya early Tiger kit.

Than back to things with wings, the huge 1/32 Trumpeter SU-27 Flanker.  Red 04.  Sorry for the cluttered background on this shot.

And finally, two entries in the Big Cats group build; the Dragon Panther A premium,

and a Dragon (Cyber Hobby) Early Panther G.

Only unfinished kits from there on.  I'm a glutton for punishment and started the 1/32 Trumpeter P-38 Lightning which is about 20% completed before I got distracted with the 251 group build, where I'm attempting my first build with significant scratchbuilding involved, a 251/18.  This is about 80% complete.

Slower year (I am a slow enough builder as it is, due to hectic family life)

I have two builds finished and awaiting a base, but that won't be done before the end of the year.

Calibri Gaz-67 jeep and a Italeri IS-2

Here are the images of what I have built, all in 1:72

As I said earlier, slow year.

Cheers

Mike

My humble models

This container is just for the hack of it, I used to work on ships and found this one on BBC's website. Download, print, a bit of glue...that's it.

Does it still qualify as model? :)

Tamiya 1/35 Char B-1 with Azimut conversion

Trumpeter 1/35 Bruckenleger

Heller 1/35 Renault R-35 with Commander Series conversion

Italeri 1/35 M11/40 with Commander Series conversion

OK, if you insist...

I started off the year on an Israeli armor binge, cranking out 3 IDF vehicles during the winter of '08. First up was an Academy Zelda, built straight out of the box.

Next came an Academy Merkava II with mine roller. Building the "ball and chain" armor out of, well, little tiny balls and little tiny chain was a bloody pain in the tucchus.

The last of the IDF binge was an AFV Club M730A1 Chaparral.

Spring brought out the need for some landscaping, and what better way to landscape the yard than with a M4A3 105mm Sherman HVSS with a dozer blade? This is the Academy kit with Eduard photoetched parts.

I spent the summer working on this Academy AH-60L DAP Blackhawk, with Eduard photoetch inside and out, plus four crewmen.

After the Blackhawk, I fired up the cloning vats and made bunchs of US Army Tank Riders for a pair of my oldest tanks. These two Italeri M4A1s were built in my Ohio State dormroom in the early 80s. The sandbags were added in the '90s, and the riders in the '00s.

And finally, this is what's on my workbench right now, an AFV Club M1126 Stryker ICV with Eduard photoetched slat armor.

Thanks for asking.

Beened a while since I've been here. And lots of great model I don't recall.

2008 was my moist succeful year of modeling, more and better models were made than ever before, and some of my best too.

The year started with the complete of Dragons T-34 in german army, this is my favorite and first with PE parts, the firgure is also the first details too.

Tamiya willy jeep and Rover 7 ambulance was also complete, and just in time for the model show where I got second place in junor award.

Firts 1/48 tank was also the first free hand camo pattern that I've done.

Then more difficult builds were made like Dragon Gepard(with lots of PE parts) and repairing the tamiya Hezter, thought not finish yet, they are quite a challenge.

And finally Trumpeters KV-2 early is done not long ago and with a conbination of skill and well made figures, it really shows off, and is my first allied tank. His dio is almost done, maybe not this year but before march.

Unfortunatly this was not a good year for aircraft, none have been completed.

Working on: Trumpeter SU-152 (1/35) Trumpeter E-10 (1/35) Heller Somua (1/35)
