Tiger 1 with winter camo (updated photo,s) (FINNISHED)!!!!!!!
Posted by Bodge on Monday, February 2, 2009 3:37 PM

This week ive got back to the workbench and made a few 1/72 scale metal kits for a dio im working on and also ive been looking through Mig,s FAQ book and been inspired on the mapping section so i dug out the old Tiger i built and thought i will have a go at adding mapping to this. Mapping is if you dont know using thined white paint and painting on random shapes to reprecent different layers  of wear on the whitewash paint layer building it up until your happy with the effect. First real bit of modelling for months and i enjoyed it. The Tiger still needs the pigment treatment of mud  to the running gear and to be set on a small base (landscaped to suite vehicle.

This looks awesome! Your mapping job turned out real well, I really like the natural appearance of the white wash. I've never heard of it before.

Any chace you got a link to this Mig FAQ book? Does Amazon carry it by any chance?

Andy, she's looking good mate. That mapping is a new one for me also. I have'nt been quite brave enough to try a winterwash yet. But it looks as though you are giving me the inspiration and guts to try it.Thumbs Up [tup]

Looking forward to your next installment.

                                                        Cheers, doc

Neat effect! Makes me want to dig out an old Shermie and give it a try. I'm with doc here, I haven't gotten up the stones to do a whitwash yet, either.

nice to see someone else give the whitewash a go.i use magnolia white acrylic. and this is thin to varying consistecies and brushed on with what i would say is a brush that would scale to a mop or 1/35th scale paintbrush. often a little brown or black will be added to this just to change it up a bit.check last years winter warriors group build for some examples of whitewashing.and where did i see a snapshot of that tiger with the vertical zim on the turret.Thumbs Up [tup]

Good to see your work again Andy. Looking swell so far. Is this an Italeri kit? I ask because the zimmerit looks like the Italeri molded on style. My bad if I'm wrong.

Nice subject, excellent effect with the whitewash and the weathering on top of the wash.

Chipping/worn wash and paint is really well done.

Thanks for sharing.

"Mapping", huh? I cant keep up with all these terms and definitions! LOL!

I used that technique without realizing on my King Tiger recently, but I didn't know that's what it was! I used MIG enamel filters/washes to do it. I'll have ot try that withacrylics; it's intriguing!

It looks excellent, by the way--those Warriors figures are killer! The finish is just superb!

What'd you use for the zimm? Great to see you back in the saddle!

Thanks guys for your input. i will try to answer your questions .

The FAQ book i have seen on ebay from Panther models several times.

The Tiger is the Italeri one. There is a picture of a tiger 1 with verticle zimm on the turret as was discussed on an earlier post of this vehicle.

The zimmerit is a resin sheet pack bought at a show, sorry cant remember make.

Hey carl i will check out your Tiger post, thanks for the encouragementThumbs Up [tup]

Bodge: SUPERB!!!  I have not heard it called "mapping", but I know the effect you're trying to achieve.  I personally call it "color accents"...in this case the color is actually white.  I study the model VERY close and "accent" the most prodominant colors as they show through from the layer below.  The contrast of the fresh/clean colors (or white) adds a lot of interest, and believability, IMO, to the model.

Thanks guys for the praiseThumbs Up [tup] Steve im gonna leave you a pm today.

This week ive decided to get this cat ready for a show on 14th Feb.So ive done a bit more paint detailing and now i have started on a simple base for it to settle on. I mixed some plaster with Migs resin and added mig pigments for colour

I then added this to the base and pressed the tracks into it  so as to leave track prints . then i pressed it into position and added more mix to the side of tracks so as to represent mud being churned up.  Then i added mix to the tracks and wheels and chassis of tiger. This mix will then get pigment treatment and clear resin to reprecent puddles and wet mud apearance. Photo,s so far:-

Hey Bodge I really like the overall look of the mud, pretty convincing. Look like it will suck your boots right off.  I will say I like the mud on the left side better in pic 2 than pic 3.  That looks too wet to me.  I noticed the "wet" mud in the last couple of pics looks like it has been removed.  And the color is great too.

Final instalment  ive added the colour with Migs dark wash then added resin water effects then splashes on Tiger , puddles and finaly some Woodland scenic snow. I only wanted a hint of snow as this is after a thaw and everything has gone rather squishy. Hope u like. Cheers .Andy.

Well done sir. Pretty much explains "Tigers In The Mud" for me. The tow cables are lovely. As in, We´re gonna need em. Takes a Tiger to tow a Tiger or, so I´ve heard. Also, mud and water, Some of the best I´ve seen. As for the paint, I  don´t get over here much so it was the first I´d heard of that method. Always learning something here.

That is spectacular!  The mud and water is excellent, crop off the background and I'd swear you were taking a picture of our hog yard out back during the Spring thaw, or Summer rains, only with a Tiger tank instead of a 300 lb hog in the mud...  Make a Toast [#toast]

Bodge,

Ummmm...  wow!  I mean, Wow!  Like, really... WOW!!!!

Just one question - is the figgie standing on the turret Luke Skywalker?  It looks like he is missing his hand (or is he just pulling on he coat so his hand is in the sleeve?).
