Looking great, Tony.

I'm a total newbie, I'm working on my fourth tank as we speak, but one thing that might add some detail is a conduit of wire from that headlight up towards a likely entry point for the wiring, I made mine for the E 100 out of some wire and fit it with trial and error.

Also, are the different colored pieces, such as the headlight, resin?\

OOOPPPs Bill thanks for reminding me about that light wire and don't feel like the Lone Ranger bud, this is number 6 for me.

No resin, this kit didn't come with any of the things you see on the outside and I had to go scrounge up everything in the spares box.(Tamiya King Tiger and DML extras)

Thanks Again                                                                                                               Tony the Mutt

Getting closer Tony! Have you figured out how many bottles of paint you're going to need for this one yet? Propeller [8-]

Tex you've brought up a very good point with that question.Approve [^]

So lets get serious here for a minute people. Defeat is most likely but it's not over just yet. War materials are in very short supply and paint is not a priority. The shop found a couple of partial five gallon buckets of Olivgrun and Dunkelgelb paste in a shed out back but no Rotbraun, the red primer will have to do.

In order to paint the unit with the specified ambush camouflage scheme that meager amount of paint is going to need thinned a bunch. The primer will likely show through in some areas but that just can't be helped.

That's the plan folks so what do you think?

Depends on if you want to do this one as a "what if" or stick to the timeframe of April-May '45 and what was planned/ordered. If you want to do it as a "what if" then the options are truly limitless.

If you are instead looking for the accuracy angle, it's worth noting first that it is a common misperception that the "ambush" scheme was an end-of-war arrangement. It was actually ordered for only a short period of time in 1944 (Sept-Oct) before being replaced by the base coat in Olivegrun order and factory hard-edged schemes of rot braun and dunkelgelb applied over that. While there's much "theoretical" discussion about end-of-war shortages, paint wasn't really one of them as there aren't any documented cases of factories running out of paint stocks prior to their being overrun in the later stages of the war. Inclusion of "primer red" in the schemes is also hotly debated depending on who you talk to (see the Bovington Panther). Considering how the assemblies were done, the hulls (constructed separately) wouldn't have left the manufacturer to go to the final assembly point without first being painted in Olivegrun as part of the completion/acceptance process. (Yes, believe it or not, all vehicle components had to be accepted by a Waffenamt inspector prior to their being sent on to final assembly...same thing with the finished vehicles before issue to the troops!). So I would say that if you're looking for a end-of-the-road vehicle, your best bet would be a basecoated Olivegrun with only Dunkelgelb camo applied if you want to run with the "no rotbraun available" scenario. Think "octopus" Tiger II type of scheme. Wink [;)]

Tony great work there sir, I love what your doing, adding the lights and pioneering tools look greaaaaaaat. Just one point, with regards to the towing cables, i'm not totally sure but I think that cables would have been out of service by the time that beast came into service. I think I read somewhere that they were going to be repalced with towing bars. I may be wrong but its well worth looking into as its a very expensive project in both cash and time invested.

Anyhow keep up the good work and all the best.

Terry.

Thanks Terry and that's the first i've heard of them using towbars. This pic is what I was going by:

As for you Bill, you are just full of it, GREAT info that is.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Well since this thing was captured in 45 I guess I better rethink this. Like i've said before,i'm not a rivet counter just yet but I would think period paint scheme would be the thing to do.

Some 18 months ago when this kit was first released I didn't buy it thinking that the price ($60 net) was too much for a tank. Despite the price, the kit sold well and ran out soon after. I didn't see for a year but lately I kept seeing one at the bottom of the pile at a hobby shop that I couldn't resist anymore and I bought it last week.

Tony, your build has been so far so good, the engine looks great. But you gotta speed up because I gave this kit to my main modeler yesterday and he's likely to finish it, along with many other items, within this month. I've told him to build it into 4 separable parts, i.e., the tank, the front cover, the gun and the round base for the gun. I want to take its picture in both mounted and dismounted modes and to show the engine too. I think you're doing the same, right?

Hi Maniac:

My plan is to build this one as a operational unit since two other guys on the net are building theirs as captured prototypes. The way I understand it the dismounted configuration was dropped so the gun will be mounted in mine.

Since this was only a prototype machine that leaves the door open for you to build it as you like. Here lately real life has got me away from the bench and building time has slowed to a crawl.

Good Luck with yours and i'll be looking for those picturesBig Smile [:D]                                              Tony the Mutt

I've been following this build here and else where and love how it's coming along. I look forward to seeing the paint going on this model, especially as an in service tank, should look great.

Morning Bill

Dragon has spoiled me when it comes to clean-up and this is my first non-DML kit. Mold seams and flash was not that bad but there are lots of knock out marks. Some you can sand out but there are more that have to be filled.Thumbs Down [tdn] I already knew about that so I just put my head down and got it done. You know when you really want to build a model things like that are just part of the progress,No Big Deal.

Warp and fit was as good as any Dragon kit i've built and the instructions were much better than what DML provides. As soon as I saw BrokenEagles sbs I just had to have one and i've really enjoyed building it. Sure hope I can do it justice with the paint job.

Thanks                                                                                                                         Tony the Mutt

Hi Tony,

My modeler has finished this Tiger 17cm Kanone, along with V-150 Commando w/ 20mm Cannon (Hobby Boss's), B-1 "Centauro" AFV Early Version (Trumpeter's), Churchill Crocodile (Tamiya), Adolf "Dolfo" Ferdinand Galland (German WWII Pilot) 200mm or 1:9, Sd.Kfz.251/21 "Drillling" (AFV Club's) and German Officers Field Session (Tri Star's) - that's seven pieces total - in just over two weeks, despite having to work as school art teacher during day time. I pictured them all today except the last one which I forgot, but I may add some more pictures using digital camera. Allow 2 days for my new page to be processed and uploaded. You'll see this big gun in both mounted and dismounted modes. ;-)

You're welcome, Tony! While my films won't be processed and scanned until Monday, I can provide a couple of digital pictures as a preview. These were taken using flash, I may not use them in my page but will take new pictures during daytime tomorrow. Taken with the figure set that I forgot to include in my films:
